The brush mechanism is moving very slowly and and there is no suction... What could be the issue?

Jody [number removed]

Dyson

Loss of suction is often due to a restriction within the airways of the machine. We kindly encourage going through the troubleshooting via this link: external link  If we can assist further, our Australian Based Dyson Experts are available via auaskdyson@dyson.com

I own a dyson DC39 Animal, with the 1st triggerhead. Which stopped spinning. If buy a replacement, would it be better to buy the newest version of the triggerhead? Would it work with the use of the release button? and would it work with pet hair the same as the initial triggerhead?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi there, Thank you for your question. For the DC39 Animal there is only one Triggerhead that will work with the release button. This machine is designed to be used with the Triggerhead and not with the new style of Turbine head that we offer on other machines.

If you'd like to place an order please contact our helpline on 1800 239 766 or send an email through to aucustomercare@dyson.com. Our helpline is open Mon-Fri 8am-8pm and on the weekend 8.30am-4pm.

My DC39 runs great until I get on the carpet and the brush stops spinning. It's acting like the suction is not powerful enough. I've checked the hose and verified there is no debris restricting air flow. I've cleaned the filter. Still seeing the same issue. I've cleaned the brush and verified nothing preventing it from spinning from the axis. As soon as I lift it from the carpet, the brush spins rapidly again. Any idea what the issue could be?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Julie, Thanks for your question. Some possible reasons this could be occurring is that there is a blockage of airflow in the machine or something hindering airflow between the head and the floor surface.

Please check the machine for blockages as shown here: external link

If the carpet is of a particularly dense type and it seems that the head is almost sticking to the floor pull the trigger on the handle to reduce the suction slightly.

If this does not resolve the issue or you need further assistance, please reach out at askdyson@dyson.com.au and we will be happy to help.

I have a DC39 and the brush will not stop spinning when I push the appropriate button. There are no clogs, but I have hardwood floors and I need it to not spin. When I hold the button down it does stop spinning, however there is no suction. What can I do to fix this?

Sammie
Sammie

I normally use the hardfloor attachment for hard floors as the brush scratches my floor tiles. I'm not sure if u can permanently stop the brush. It is supposed to be automatic. There is a circle on the side of the brush that looks like a line across. That's supposed to lock it. I have the opposite problem. Sometimes mine stops when I'm doing the carpet and it annoys me coz I have to detach and reattach it to get it to spin again. Good luck!

Did you ever get an answer to this problem? I'm having the same issue. For 4 years I would push the button down and release it and the brush head would stop spinning so I could use it on my hard wood floors. Then out of nowhere it wouldn't work and had to be held down, but like you said, then the suction is not the same. I actually called Dyson and they could not troubleshoot it over the phone, so I went to a local vacuum repair store through my warranty and they told me NOTHING was wrong with my vacuum. They said ALL Dysons that convert from hard wood floors to carpet have to have the button held down at all times. This was confusing as for 4 years I only had to push it once to change settings, not hold it down. I Called Dyson again and they told me the same. Tried vacuuming this weekend taping down the button and the suction is nowhere near the same because the compartment is open. Makes no sense. Probably need a new vacuum now which sucks.

Can the triggerhead on the DC 39 be washed under a faucet?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi Melodie, Thank you for your query. We don't recommend washing any part of the DC39 with the exception of the filter. Once the brush is removed, you can wipe the head out with a soft, dry cloth. You can find out how to remove the brush from the head here: external link

If we can assist further, please email askdyson@dyson.com.au with your details, and we will be more than happy to help.

I bought a dyson dc39, I am so upset spend over 400 on a vacuum that started over heating the first week I used it. I have taken thr filter washed it and checked for cloggs and don't have any! How do you get a refund for this??? Is it the case that they will only replace it with another defective machine?

$400...that's cheap. I paid double that lol. Imagine my frustration. Is it still under the warranty period? If it is, should be able to get a replacement

My Dyson DC39 is approx 5 years old & I need to change the filter twice every time I vacuum the carpet & surfaces (which is once a week). The suction works fine for about 5 mins once I replace the cylindrical filter (luckily I bought 4 spares) & then eventually stops sucking & makes the specific loss of suction sound. Not the sort of experience you would expect from an apparently well engineered machine. any ideas?

Mrs N
Mrs N

Hi, I experienced the same issue, multiple filters, which needed to be changed after every vacuum , and the dust sitting on the filter instead of being sucked into the machine.I assumed it was the cyclone that was either blocked or the cyclone components ( ie.rubber inserts inside each cyclinder ) had broken down.

In my case it was the motor itself , which blew up,not long after I replaced said cyclone, which as I found out later was quite common on the Dyson DC39.

Best of luck to you

Axel
Axel

Thanks for the response & insight Mrs N! Yes, it would appear that the dust is just captured on the filter rather than the being captured in the barrel. I thought it odd that there has been less & less dust/dirt captured in the barrel itself but I but never pieced these issues together. Hmmmm, I'll look to get the machine serviced by Dyson. I don't think I'll be investing in anymore of their products. I had x2 previous Dyson handhelds which broke down in no time. Very poor product return on investment in my view. Many cheers!

What other power heads are compatible with the dc39 dyson barrel?

Dyson
Dyson   DM

Hi there, Thanks for your question. Aside from the Turbine head which comes standard with the DC39 Animal, there are two other floor tools which are also compatible. Both these floor tools are similar in that they do not contain a rotating brush bar as part of the design, however they do vary in other ways. The Musclehead has a soleplate which adjusts automatically between carpet and hard flooring, and is also designed with suction release control. The Flat Out floor tool is a very simply yet affective tool which has a standard soleplate designed for use on both carpet and hard flooring and is easy to reach under lower furniture. The Musclehead is not currently available for purchase online, however you can review both tools on our website below:

I have the dc39 and it isn't good on my tiles, sand comes flying out the back of the head. Are there different modes for this one?

88RNG
88RNG

Not sure ! Mine is DC39 Multi Floor. I guess it uses the same "motor" but different hose head... They discontinued this particular model for a reason....

DJCJ
DJCJ

Well I dont have tiles but have hardflooring (as well as carpet). I dont use the head with the spinning bristles for the hard floor as I found a similar issue was occurring (Where the bristles are too fast and flick the dirt behind the head before the unit has had a chance to suck it away). So I would turn off the bristle spinning (the small grey button at the top of the telescopic arm) or change to the smaller head for hard surfaces (that has no moving parts). I find that works best for hard surfaces, and the head with the spinning bristles best for carpets and rugs. A pain to change heads I know.....

Will Dyson ever 'come clean' and admit that the Dyson DC39 Animal is a complete failure?

So many review comments full of consistent complaints, so many disatisfied consumers.

Why are Dyson in denial?

Cavoodle
Cavoodle

Obviously because everyone will want a refund. They told me I was the first complaint they had received. I suggested they look online. I'm sorry I didn't go to fair trading initially and lodge a complaint. Perhaps there needs to be a class action.

Reading all of the Dyson reviews, makes me sick in the stomach.I purchased a DC54 1 week ago and i absolutely hate it. Double the time to vacuum the house. Ha! and isn't it fun to empty the barrel-not! I vacuum everyday as I have three, four legged furry kids. Can someone help us innocent customers please. Not only am I very upset with myself that i had purchased another Dyson but i also told my sister how good they were. ( I was still using my old Dyson that i had purchased 6yrs ago at the time) My sister had only admitted to me today that she doesn't like her Dyson either. They want me to send it to them to be tested. What a joke! I told them it was a bad design. But,I don't think they really care.

Unhappy Customer

Tracey

This product is simply not fit for a purpose - and the consumer laws require a refund. It may even be fraudulent to sell it as a vacuum cleaner. Dyson will never admit their faults because they are arrogant and ignorant. All they need to do is half an hour's vacuuming in a family home and they will be sitting on the floor poking at the flat piece that connects to the barrel to unclog it, cutting away hair and rubbish that is clogging up the brushes, then they will empty the dust barrel and get dust everywhere because it's got a stupid lid on it and places where it clogs. Then when they go to put it away they have to use two hands just to put the floor tool back onto its clip on the barrel - lift the head and hold the tool at a weird angle and connect to the flimsy clip on the barrel that will be sure to break any day.

Consumer-S
Consumer-S

Dyson has sold it's soul to the evil gods' of corporate greed. To me it is obvious that they dont give a stuff about the consmer. When i posted my original review, Dyson asked me to contact them. When I did, they offered to replace my vac with the same model vac.

I nearly passed out with disbelief. They didn't get the fact that giving me the same model Dyson Animal vac wasn't going to solve the design flaws and lack of performance in their machine.

Do your research before buying a Dyson.

You could potentially save yourself a lot of grief, heartache and money.

Read sites like Productreview, talk to your friends, colleagues etc

Those who have one and are unhappy with its performance please tell everyone you know.

Make it your mission to save your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours from the evil clutches of the Dyson empire.

Cheers

They'll never admit that the DC39 Animal is a failure, but I bet that the next model won't have the hinged lid on the dust canister, and won't have the pinch points that get clogged all the time.

That is why you go to a vacuum cleaning specialist to buy a vacuum. Godfreys are the only specialists in the country and they do not have dyson products as i found out when i was there, this got me thinking straight away that maybe it is all hype for dyson. Godfreys demonstrated for me something i would have never had at Harveys or Good Guys. They showed me the difference between all levels of vacuum cleaning heads. I am so glad i purchased my vacuum from them, i may have paid more for my machine than a dyson but i know how much more it cleans, how much easier and quicker it is and how much longer the machine will last. i bought a Sauber ( which is made by the inventors of vacuums Lux International) and i cant tell you now i will tell the world to go buy one. Dyson all hype and false claims

beckelljess
beckelljess

I have the dc39 animal and cant fault it. No issues at all and it does a brilliant job on my carpet, rugs, lounges and tiles all with just the turbine head. It doesnt make an awful loud noise while running, it doea t get caught on corners when moving around and doeant weigh a tonne to pull around! I had a vax power pet 7 and vacuumed with that just before my dyson was delivered, just to compare the difference.. I got 2 entire canisters up off my floors simply from what the vax missed. My vax was only about 8 months old and I suspected it to not be doing a very good job.. My allergies and hay fever have been alot better aince the dyson came into my life and my carpets feel softer and look brighter too. This machine has simplified my life a hell of a lot!

beckelljess
beckelljess

I just read the other comments and I dont have any of those issues with mine.. the canister is SO EASY to empty compared to my Vax.. I had to get my hubby to empty the Vax but rhe dyson I can do myself thankfully! I am honestly surprised by the comments! Or maybe my Vax was just a bigger heap of junk than I thought.. but still.. unreal!

steelpaw
steelpaw

The Dyson DC39 Animal was not, in itself, an especially bad vacuum cleaner. It was better than many on the market (and so it should have been, given its price). Its main problem was that it was much worse than its predecessor. People who had owned a better Dyson vacuum cleaner in the past were understandably furious that their new one was not nearly as good as their old one.

Dog hair
Dog hair · DC39 Animal

I am thinking of buying a dyson dc39. I have two short haired dogs that are always dropping hair and a daughter with long hair. My main aim is to pick up the hair left on all floors I.e carpet, tiles and wood but do not want to be changing heads and removing long hair from rollers all the time is this going to be a problem?

E Ricci
E Ricci

unfortunately with dyson animal you will be changing heads and the hard floor tool is a wiggly mess so hard to navigate because its structure is rotating too much during use. for the carpet tool also yes you will need to find a coin to struggle to open without ruining the cheap plastic is made of then pull rotating brush from inside take a pair of scissors cut thru the hairs then pull them out and throw them somewhere. this is by far the stupidest dyson i ever touched. totally user unfriendly! fits very little dirt in the clear container so i live alone house isn't small and i still need to empty after every vacuum and to empty is is harder than in the older models

Hi there, Thanks for your interest in the DC39. Like some other machines, hair may wrap around the brushbar but we make it as easy as possible to remove and clean the brushbar. The Triggerhead turbine head can be used on carpets, but also turned off for hard floors. If you prefer, a seperate hard floor tool is also included with the DC39 Animal.

Jenny51

If you have lots of carpet, I would recommend this one. I would suggest the suction would be the same. It's the attachments that make the difference. I used the comparison table on the Dyson website. external link  Hope this helps

Absolutely NOT! U r sincerely better much much better off with an older dyson model due to design functionality and overall friendliness of use

E Ricci
E Ricci

i disagree with jenny51. i only have 3 rooms yes all carpeted in a townhouse (just to see the area isn't massive) and within one vacuum i have to empty the clear bin (messier than with old dysons) as it reaches max limit very quickly as the brush removes layers of carpet not just dirt! you can get exactly same motor /suction power with an older model that also doesn't have a brush that ruins carpets like the triggerhead tool on the dyson animal does!
