Hillmark Scalex Heavy Duty Home Descaler 375g Questions & Answers
VerifiedIs Scalex suitable for coffee machines or is it too strong? I've noticed at least two similar questions have gone unanswered
I wouldn’t. It is extremely strong and toxic and I wouldn’t take the risk using it on any food or drink utensils.
Hi Baxter, We would not recommend using the Hillmark Scalex Heavy Duty in the coffee machines. For this application we would recommend using out Hillmark Expresso Kleen. external link Kind Regards, Selleys Help & Advice Team
I have used this by accident will the kettle be okay to use
Is it suitable for septic systems
Hi Julie, Hillmark Scalex Heavy Duty can be used where septic systems are in use, but we would suggest using only half the recommended dosage, and to rinse very well after use. We would also recommend spacing out the descaling chores over a few days or more. Selleys Help & Advice Team
Can I use scalex to remove yellow stains from toilet cystine cover
Hi Rebecca, Unfortunately we could not guarantee how successful Scalex Heavy Duty would be on this type of surface. If the cistern cover it made of plastic, Scalex will not work as the yellowing is in the plastic itself. If it is a ceramic cover, we would suggest testing in an inconspicuous spot before to see if it will be suitable to use. Selleys Help & Advice Team
Thank you
Can you use it to descale Saniflo meserator
Hi Marie, We would suggest contacting the manufacture to see if this product is suitable to use with your system. We have not tested on this and could not guarantee how successful this would be. Selleys Help & Advice Team
Can it be used in coffee pod machines ?
Hi just wanting to know if Scalex heavy duty can be use on shower glass n if is safe
Can’t be used on glass not safe. For glass I use 1 drop of almond oil. 1 drop is enough for both sides on a towel or old panty hose and rub in to glass.
I've used it on shower glass for years with great results. I just spray on, let sit for a minute, them wipe it off with a sponge. Removes all the calcium and build up water stains. Just be mindful that the smell can be overpowering in the confined space of a shower.
What strenght do I use Do I dilute to remove rust or corrosion oroduct
No dilution. I gave two -three generous squirts straight from bottle, brushed and let stand in bowl overnight.... the miracle was in the morning!!!
To remove stains in base of toilet bowl with Scalex Descaler….do I have to drain the water from the bowl first please?
Not at all. I just put the product in, brushed n left overnight and stains were gone in the morning. It was amazing as I had tried countless other products, blessés etc to no avail. I highly recommend it and the product goes a long way!
Thank you…I’ll give it a go.
can you use scalex in septic toilets
Can you use scalex on your kitchen tap
I haven’t tried as other products can easily clean but can certainly swear by it for removing deep toilet stains that NO OTHER PRODUCT tried could remove!!!
Why is my toilet now worse/ugly after using scalex. The bowl was fine but I thought I should use it to clean the s bend. Now my toilet is rough and always looks dirty
Can you use Scalex in a coffee machine? As a descale.
Can you use Scalex Plus in kettles? If so, how?
Has anyone tried this product on their shower? We recently purchased a home and the shower door and side glass wall are covered with a lot of lime and hard water deposits. I've tried multiple commercial cleaners and home remedies to no avail. Even full strength CLR won't touch it. I'm going to try it if no one else has. I'm to the point where replacing the glass panels is a consideration. Cheers
I had a shower just the same when we moved in. Did all the things you have. However I hadn’t heard of this at that stage...so I don’t know if it would work. I know the scalex is an amazing product, but the product needs to be able to sit on the build up to work.. this is hard on a vertical surface....give it a shot...I ended up replacing the glass and the company said that the glass had “glass cancer” which meant the lime had eaten away the top layer and nothing would clean it back to new....good luck!
Thanks for the info. Tried the scalex and it is going to require some patience. Made a big difference compared to the other remedies I’ve tried. Just not what I’m happy with. Might have to replace the glass after all.
Can Hillmark scalex descaler powder be used on a front loader washing machine?
If you enlarge the pic of the container of Scalex, there is a pic of a front loader washing machine, so obviously considered safe to use on them. However Hillmark also make specific descaler/cleaner for washing machines that comes in a box of 3 x 75gm sachets. They are sold at Mitre 10 stores, but not sure about other stockists.
Yes absolutely!!! I have used it in mine for over 10 years... it was the recommended by the washing machine shop and it is the best cleaner I have ever used and also the most economical. One bottle will last about 3 months and do my dishwasher every month and washing machine. Much cheaper than the package version. But that does work just as well and has a nice smell too...Brilliant stuff!
We have a worm treatment system on our toilet is it suitable for that?
Hi Michelle I don't think it's a good idea. Unless you put in your toilet, let it sit over night and remove water by hand without flushing. And repeat again next night. Sorry I wish I could come up with a better answer.
How is the best way to use scalex to clean my toilet. Do I just sprinkle it in my toilet with out dissolving the scalex granules first.
It’s best to do this overnight...Bucket out the water in your toilet as much as possible. Dissolve about half a bottle of Scalex in hot water...don’t breathe in the fumes... wait till the water cools down a little then pour into toilet.. leave overnight...scrub in the morning. Then flush. If the build up is very thick or very old...it will probably need another treatment that night and if it’s really bad maybe a third night...seems like a hassle but let me tell you it’s way cheaper and less hassle than getting a new toilet put in!!
Where is scalex made
Sorry I have no idea I just seen a article on how well it can clean toilets, so I brought some from eBay. And it's the best stuff I have ever used, I had lime in toilet for 10 years 2 goes over night and it was gone.
Is scales ok to use in septic system
Not 100% sure, maybe do a Google search to see if it's safe? I only have a regular loo system and it was safe on that.
Hi Ivy sorry for late reply yes it's 100% safe for septic system. Hillmark Scalex gets tough on lime, calcium and rust. Lime scale & calcium build-up decreases the efficiency of hot-water appliances, which increases running costs & shortens the appliance’s life. This is particularly severe in hard water areas, which is where Scalex does its best work. Its super concentrated formula makes Scalex the fastest & most effective descaler on the market Idea for use: Glass, plastic, metal & stainless steel ,Internal pipes, septic systems & valves.
Can I use on dirty bathroom floor tiles and if so should the floor be wet or dry
Not too sure to be honest but if you use Facebook just search for cleaning groups in the search bar. Some are called things like cleaning tips and tricks or cleaning hacks etc. That's where I first learnt about this product, before that I had never heard of it before! Once you've been accepted into a cleaning group, you can search within that group about anything anyone has said about scalex simply by typing scalex in the search bar (make sure you are on the group page search bar and not the usual Facebook search bar)
