Honda UMK425 Loop Handle Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: UMK425LNU, UMK425ULSTUT and UMK425ULTUTWhat is the difference between the UMK425ULSTUT sold by Bunnings and the UMK425L sold by most others. Is that just a gimmick to avoid matching prices as no one else sells the Bunning model.
Did you find an answer. I have same issue
Hi Steven also keen to understand this as I’ve heard people returning their Bunnings (ulstut) multiple times for various issues only to be eventually refunded then buying the same model from a Honda dealer and never having an issue. My guess is either the Bunnings model is assembled somewhere different possibly a different country and/or certain parts are sourced/made from a different location/supplier. This is what Honda responded to me.
“Thank you for contacting Honda Australia Motorcycle and Power Equipment.
Honda Australia can confirm, there is no difference between the models performance wise on the UMK425 at Honda Dealerships vs Bunnings.
You may also see the different codes of UMK425ULSTUT or UMK425ULTUT and colours, However they are only basic code differences for distribution purposes.
We trust this information clarifies.

Once again we thank you for your contact.

Can you put an edger gear head on one of these line trimmers? I have a spare umk425 that I wanted to turn into a dedicated stick edger.
Really would not know. Best ask a dealer. I just lost more hair trying to keep it running while trying to cut grass.
Idles sometimes, but pulling full throttle then release, it cuts out?
On long grass, cuts sometimes but slowly dies after & during cutting?
I haven't had this problem at all, I have given it a pretty solid workout and it has plenty of power. I do use the higher octane petrol, not standard though.
I tested the 'quick release latch tab' on the included shoulder harness, and now I cannot put it back in! I'm wondering if a crucial part flew off when it quick released, but I don't think so. The tongue, which is angled, just simply does not fit in the slot of the assembly. I ended up using it without the harness because of this, and I feel idiotic, but am I missing something? Could somebody perhaps upload a photograph of a properly assembled shoulder harness quick release assembly, so I can see what I'm doing wrong?
UMK425E. Engine will not stop after running for about 30 minutes. It is very difficult to stop. Have had this from new for quite a number of years and this is the first time I've had this issue. Is the engine stop switch at fault? Thanks JMC
Sounds like your stop switch has faulty connection. Remove the red button and look underneath to check for debris. Mine stops the second it is pushed. You could try turn the choke on and pump primer to flood the engine to stop it if desperate, but this is not recommended.
Thank for that. I took the switch out but could not take it apart so I sprayed it liberally with electrical contact cleaner, reassembled and it now works perfectly. It is a very good product in general if you keep up the maintenance routines. Cheers JMC
Seems I have a fuel leak somewhere - not the bulb as that’s been replaced. Anyone have any ideas where I should look?
Could be a split in the tank, or the fuel line. Does it leak when the tanks half full? On an angle, and if so which angle? Does the fuel stream out or simply drip? If so from which component does it run from? Is it a heavy smell of fuel or just a damp patch that collects dust? You mentioned the bulb being replaced, is it an old or heavily used machine, and has someone overhauled it and not fitted a fuel component properly? From working on older cars, I used to trace fuel leaks back from the fuel tank until I found the source, perhaps try that troubleshooting approach. Too many ifs at this stage to point the finger at one definite thing.
Hey, can anyone advise the best width of trimmer cable for the UMK425? I just use it home but I have a big yard with a lot of concrete edges. Thanks.
Use the orange line. 2.4mm. Cuting against rock or concrete will need more frequent bumps to spool line out as it will wear more quickly
What are the differences between a made in Japan model and one made in Thailand ? What does a Honda store supply?
Sorry I cant answer this. Best to ensure you purchase from an authorized Honda dealer. Maybe they would know
Japan > Thailand. Pretty straight forward
