If you have the version i had then the answer is nope, best idea is to return it and buy something else.

Maybe take it back to your place of purchase or contact Motorola. Although if you have this product I wouldn't be surprised! Good luck

The sound does not stay on for very long as we leave the room the background noise goes off is this normal?

It is meant to do that. Otherwise you would have constant noise coming through. The sound kicks back in once it reaches a certain decibel, such as the baby crying. You can test it by sending someone in the room to start talking, coughing or similar.

Hi Wayne, the response above is correct but if you would like to discuss the use and operation of this monitor further you can always call our customer service line on 1300 667 137. Thank You

Yes it does that. I find it really annoying also as it often goes off when he is just turning his head in his cot. The sudden sound wakes me up, and if I turn down the volume I can't hear anything and it defeats the purpose.
