Hi Reed, I have used my shredder only about 6 times over a one month period without any problems. I am unable to answer your question and suggest you contact ozito 1800 069486 and ask for the technical department ,or go on there website and email your problem. I am sure they will be able to assist external link
Sorry I cant be of better assistance to you.
Cheers Honest Senior.
Have an Ozito 2400w Shredder.............Had many years and no bothers........A dried branch fed into machine and the works jammed......How do you remove the branch bit and free the cutter please???............Bob Jackson
I'm reassembling Silent Shredder after replacing the cutter plate. I can't find where the earth wire attaches. I know, I should have taken a photo. Can anyone tell me where the earth wire attaches please?
The backside of the capacitor
How to replace sacrificial plate on Ozito SSH - 240
There's 2 screws hidden under the ozito stickers, that will split it in two, then you can get at the wear plate
My mulcher will start but with a funny sound, motor in for 5 seconds then cuts out. The blade is not spinning either…?!
My shredder is about 9months old and suddenly the motor cut out and won't switch on
Last time I used mine I thought the motor had stopped too. But, I had left the switch on ‘neutral’ by mistake and was relieved when I switched it up to ‘Go’ and the motor ran again. I hope you find a fix too.
My Ozito silent shredder 2400 will not turn on when I plug it in can I get a wiring diagram
I have had my ozito silent shredder for years. I am finding it will not chop up anymore. I have turned the screw on side to move blades closer but it still doesn't shed or chop. Can the blades be sharpening.
I just bought a Ozito shredder. I started with leafless mulberry branches (15mm dia) which went fine, then went to hibiscus with some leaves (about 20mm dia) and everything gummed up with the few leaves that were on the branch. Dry stuff goes thru ok, for what I tried, but anything sappy no way. I tried to remove the cover, but it has three point screws that only go in, not out (slots are tapered). I've read many reviews and haven't heard this problem before.
You need to remove the exit chute which has been added for ‘safety’ but which causes the problem you’re having. You need a long shafted phillips head screwdriver to remove 3 screws one of which is behind the chute. The machine worked pretty well without this unnecessary chute. It’s just there to cover the arse of the manufacturer. Good luck.
If you find some 3 pointed tec screws, they can be removed using a security set of screwdriver tips, from Bunnings. Changed all of mine to Philips heads for speed an efficiency. As an Engineer ,which I aren't, I secure the top cover back on with little 12mm self tappers screwed into the top on the vertical side's they re very secure, and it saves fiddling around trying to locate the original top screws . I find the only way to get the original screws out is with the help of a very strong magnet, they are buried so deep in the moulding! (2). Keep a small pile of DRY 15mm.sticks aside, and use them when you have a stoppage from WET LEAVES .Try to let the wet stuff dry out for a week (COVERED FROM RAIN.)Put the dry sticks through LAST of all....KEEP on MULCHING!
P.S. I went for a RYOBI shredder/mulcher after that put a close on the EXIT SHAFT on latest model, it is crazy all this PC as if we were children in a pram. The Ryobi is so much easier th clear and to replace the worn the sharpening plate as so simple! Only 4 screws and the backing plate is removed...BETTER MULCHING !!
Thanks for your prompt reply. The problem is not on the exit, which I'm happy to clean regularly at this stage. I could only see one screw. I'll work on this later.
thanks for you prompt reply. I have a three point driver, but one screw striped. I'm thinking like you, leave the cuttings for a week to dry out. This is pain as I don't have a lot of room. I prefer to cut and mulch in situ. I don't want to modify it as I think I have case to get a refund.
I've used the Rover green mulcher for years and worn several of them out. Hard to find now. It's the only one I've found that you can actually get stuff into. Some I've tried the entrance was so small and indirect that they were useless.
I just did mine. Took out the screws which happened to be normal screws not tech. I just ripped the hell out of the Shute until I could get to the screws. It's ridiculous this design that is supposed to protect you that ends up with you shoving your bloody hands up there anyway!
OzIto shreader motor is running but it apears cutter us not turning,is this belt driven and can it be fixed Ted
There is NO BELT drive on the machine, it is a DIRECT DRIVE , then it could be the shaving block is worn out and needs replacing as the gap it too wide Check the gap between the rotating cutter and the shaving block with a torch through the top feeding slot, is about 1mm. space. If it is wider, then rotate the adjusting bolt up towards the cutter ,then upon touching, wind back 1mm. Not a belt drive....
Thank you I now suspect burnt out motor, but will check a you suggest
I bought a new silent shredder to replace the old one which worked great for years until the adjusting bolt or plate stripped. The new one has a narrow ‘safer’ outlet chute which just causes material to back up including around the cutter gear. I would like to remove the added narrow chute and can see one phillips head bolt but I understand there are at least two more somewhere I can’t see. Any ideas/suggestions as to how to remove this chute. I suspect it may work like the old model with this removed. Thanks Bill
Sorry matey, I just took it back and changed it for a better mulcher little bit noisier so much easier to change the "sharpening blade" as Ryobi call it should take only 20 minutes with the Allen key provided to replace when I have worn it out! The cost is a lot dearer than the Ozito , but the time saved in maintenance is worth it I think. One thing that needs redesigning is the box which fills with the mulch (56kg capacity)s made from a lightweight plastic needs to be made stronger. I am being careful with the box as it has a very well thought out latch fitted which is a safety device and it will not switch ON, unless the box is in place.
I've just set up the shredder and it won't start
Never had not starting as an issue. As long as it’s plugged in and set to forward it should go. Good luck. Check there’s nothing stuck in the cutting gear.
Have new 2400w ozito shredder, used three times now it's died, not happy any ideas pleases
Take it back to were you bought it
Was thinking just that thankyou, maybe try different brand
Hi anyone help me pull this 2400w apart broke bottom cast plate near rotary cutting blade. Undone every bolt and screw I can find yellow top is off. All edges down the seem can be pulled open but something still holding it together though the gut of it. It’s doing my head in Not taking to engineering place cost more than it worth
Ozito uses security type screws. I got a full set at the local hardware .You may have missed one or two tying the main green casing together. Get a mate to help as its not that hard to strip. it usually takes me 2-3 hrs. to relace the alum.rubbing part. Good hunting, your nearly there !
i haven't gone that deep but removing the lower chute required looking for hidden screws behind trim pieces
Can you still get blades for Ozito Silent Shredders?
I have jammed th e machine. Too large a branch. How do I unjam it
unplug machine from power, loosen side adjuster see if you can reach any of the bits with pliers and pull them out. I cant remember if machine has forward and reverse ( i lent it to mother in law) if so try rocking it back and forward and pulling out anything that you can reach with pliers. Make sure its unplugged each time you are inside it. I also removed the black plastic chute inside discharge. its got a few hidden screws holding it in as well as 4 easy ones if my memory is correct
How do you unjam it
unplug it from power, loosen side adjuster, use pliers to pull out anything you can grab.
Sorry Matt.,But the palm frond is in the tiny gaps 'tween the cutter and the wall of the machine, at BOTH ENDS ! . The only awnser I can see is to go on a holiday for a few weeks to let the Fibrous strands of the palm shroud DRY OUT and then try again. All visible pieces are removed as you suggested and the cutters are clearly cleaned. I've had 3 of these machines and never had it jam like this ever. I will get another one if I can't UNJAM this one!!! can pull it all apart first and remove the end plate, and clear it ,that's the option, as she needs anothere cutting plate, but it's a 3 hour job ! This one has had 3 new cutting plates so far even though the main drive shaft has a slight bend fom all the heavy work she has had to deal with. ! Good luck with your Jamming!
I have a SSH 240 which appears to have a stripped adjustment screw. Ozito say take it to a repair shop but I cannot find one who will look at it. Bunnings say if out of warranty throw it away. My question is that they sell parts. Why - if I cant disassemble the unit (Ozito response) and they cannot give me the name of a repair centre who will do the job. How do others fare with repairs?
Judging by my experience with Ozito they appear to be just an import company which have generic products made in Asia rebranded with their colours and logo which they sell through Bunnings. I have one of these machines branded as a Morrison in New Zealand and have seen them sold as Spear & Jackson in the U.K.
As I remember, the adjustment screw is made out of steel and screws through a casting which is part of the motor assembly and is made from alloy. As this material is softer than the steel and under stress from the pressure the screw exerts on the cutter block, it is this thread that strips and not the thread on the screw. To repair it you would need to disassemble the shredder, find a bolt of a slightly larger diameter and comparable length, drill out the casting and re tap it to fit the new thread. You would have to do this work yourself as it would cost more than the unit is worth to pay a fitter to do this job. I couldn't imagine Ozito employing anyone with the ability to do this sort of work.
Before going any further it would be best to disassemble the unit yourself to be certain of where the problem is. You may just be able to replace the bolt with one from a local fastenings supplier or find a slightly oversized one which will grip on what is left of the thread.
As with most items these days (cars, watches, home appliances, etc., etc.) you are probably wasting your time expecting help from the supplier. All they really want you to do is go away and stop bothering them so they can get on with selling their trashy products to others or they will try and skin you with repair quotes which are three quarters of the price of a new one.
Thanks Tim. I am suprised that iuf the thread is stripped why cant i remove the bolt even with multigrips attached. I have read that after removing the triangular headed screws there a rubber gromets that have screws/bolts underneath that can be impossibe to remove
Just strip ALL of the original bolts screws and replsace with conventional bolts and PK screws around the top only 16mm long to secure the top in place, and use a HIGH TENSILE HEX THREAD 25 mm longer, as your new adjuster and then you can use a standard spanner on it AFTER you enlage the plastic hole in the motor cover to take the LONGER HEX BOLT ! I have pulled 4 mulchers arart and have got the job done in under 21/2 hrs. Also To allow better flow of the mulch ,cut the plastic shute bac about 75mm as there it a restrictive bump in the discharge shute which causes a build up of chipped mulch and has to be cleared and this is not efficient working progress. If you think this is Dangerous, them get a $1.oo bucket, cut the bottom out ,turn it upside down an force it over the discharge outlet ,on the outside and refix with small selftapping screws 15mm.long,SIMPLE>
Thanks biggles - that sounds really doable. Just have to source a triangular screwdriver bit to get the top screws out
Can i replace the blade adjustment bolt as it is shredded?
Yes ,I have had 3 shredders and I took the bolt to an Engineering shop and they sold me a proper hex headed bolt to suit the tread and it's so much easier to use.
I cannot remove the bolt
Hi Ozito,
I have used this mulcher for years, and it has excellent performance for the job it was designed to do.
In fact, I sold the mulcher to friends when I travelled overseas, and bought it back off them recently.
Previously, I have mulched very long old dry palm fronds, however recently I have mulched 40mm very hard Australian hardwood and I guess I overloaded the starting capacitor.
I dismantled the mulcher (thanks for the tri-screws ;) right down to the gegearbox and added grease and also added grease to the electric motor bearings.
The help I need is a wiring diagram to find out which wire (blue or brown) goes to the reset switch, and which goes to the on/off switch.
Great simple design, and I like how the aluminium cutter is sacrificial and replacable (maintains sharpness).
Cheers,
John S.
