Hi, We love our Smeg SA987CX microwave but it's on it's last legs - we have it as a built in with a trim kit. Has anyone replaced this microwave with another one and have it nicely fit the trim kit? It looks like the new Smeg ovens are a good few cms smaller which wont look good. Thanks!

Hi

My microwave is 4.5 years old and the knob doesn’t work any more. It will only do 60 min or 10 seconds cooking times. When I press the multi, convection or grill button, it doesn’t let me go any further with the programming. when you are paying $890 for a microwave you expect it to last a bit longer. Can it be fixed?

Smeg

Hi, I have a SA987CX, just out of the box today (been waiting for my new kitchen).

I’ve only ever had a normal microwave before, so this is all new to me.

First question - how do I cook a frozen pizza in it??

Thanks

Smeg
Smeg   DM

Hi Jae defrost the pizza with the micro wave function then use the convection to heat up the pizza, use the instruction for cooking on the pizza box to set the temperatures.

How you altered the power setting ?? It goes from p00 to p 90 then p hi. I think p hi is the hottest setting.

Smeg
Smeg

Hi Liz it may be sparking on the inside of the oven , check the wheels on the turn tray they may be need to be cleaned because this will cause sparking, also the wave guide cover, that's the square piece of cardboard on the R/H inside of the oven, it may need to be cleaned or replaced. If these are ok please call Smeg service on 02 8667 4833 and arrange for a service.

Hi, what is the difference between the SA987cx and the SA987cx-2 model? Thanks.

Jimbo 0811
Jimbo 0811

not much , i believe the cx-2 is the updated model only , they changed the clock to a kitchen timer only and stopped making the cx model

Pauline

I believe the SA987CX-2 has a grill function.

Hi Han Lee the main difference is the -2 has no clock and the display goes off after a few minutes this is for energy saving. Regards Chris

how do i change the lightbulb?

chrisspinning
chrisspinning

I have no idea Barbara as my light hasn't blown, try asking Smeg they were very helpful to me when I had a query.

Gary
Gary

HI Barbara, I had a lot of problems with the light blowing in the Smeg all the time. I guess I replaced it about 7-8 times, in the end I had about 3 spare globes as it was a constant requirement to change it.

In the end, I complained to Smeg who then sent me to the authorised dealership, who changed the 240 volt globe and installed a 24 volt one with the aid of a transformer.

Having said this and it has not been a problem to you in the past and if you want to change it yourself, buy a replacement globe first,( the wattage will be in your booklet),

.

Disconnect the mircowave completely and remove the plug from the power point.

Place the microwave on a firm table, the unit is quite heavy and may need 2 people., remove the 4 screws. The cover is removed by carefully sliding it towards the back of the microwave and then lift up and off.

This will expose the electrics of the unit.

Where the light is situated (you will know this by looking inside the microwave and noting where the globe is (top RHS), there are a couple of screws that require to

remove the protective shield cover to gain access to the globe.

Be careful that you do not damage any wires that power the globe don't rush it.

Remove the globe.

With installing the new globe, use cotton gloves or similar (not latex) and install the new globe.

The reason for this is that your fingers would contain natural oil and fingerprints on the globe will result in a very short life span of the globe.

Make sure that the globe has firm contact with the socket. (the globe is an unusual shape so don't worry about this as it is NOT like a normal house light)

.

Place the protective shield back on and install the screws in the same holes that they came from.

Replace the outer casing a in reverse of what you did to remove it, ie slide in first the align the screw holes and re-insert the screws making sure that the outer casing is installed correctly..

Plug the oven into the power point and test it to determine that the light works.

Position your mircowave where you had it prior to remove.

Your all done.

Remember, if it is a frequent problem, take it to the authorised dealer and tell them to swap it over to a 24 volt globe.

Gary.

Hi, Our Smeg SA987CX is still working however doesn't appear to be heating food up! We have the power set to high and wondered what may have caused this?

Many Thanks

Lilly
Lilly

Umm ...I don't know Jenny. If it's the convection section that isn't heating, then maybe the element's broken...Have a quick look through the instruction book and see if there are any suggestions...otherwise I'd be calling the Smeg service centre, although I'm pretty sure they monitor this site closely, so I'm guessing you'll get a message from one of them to try to sort out the problem

Smeg
Smeg   DM

Dear Jennsy06, I am from Smeg and I would say that it may be the magnetron but without seeing the unit I am unable to give an exact answer. If you can email me your details at steve.cullen@smeg.com.au I will arrange for a call to ascertain what the problem is and see how best to have the unit repaired.. Regards, Steve Cullen

Our Smeg SA987CX microwave has just randomly given up the ghost mid operation. It runs but doesn't heat, can set the cooking time but it doesn't count down (a '1' ? Shows up on the right of the display) can set the clock but it doesn't change. Does anyone have any clues as to what might be wrong?

Nick Glasson

Sounds like you need to take it to a repairer...good luck with that. Hopefully it is under warranty but be prepared for them to keep fixing it and never offering to replace it or give your money back. I've had nothing but trouble with mine and would never buy or recommend a Smeg product again based on this one item.
