Victa Hurricane Questions & Answers
VerifiedMy front Axel (& wheels) keep dropping out of position, I know there was a little metal catch - which fell off one side, now the other, can u tell me where I can get these from & what they are called pls, desperately need some, and no-one here seems to know anything about them *local mower shops
Check external link for dealer in your area and they'll be able to order Victa Front Axel Clips for you. Tool Kit Depot can also order parts from GA Spares but their prices may be higher then mower shops.
Thank you!
Is the victor hurricane 2 stroke 18,19 or 20 inch?
Model number example: HMS462 1st letter is H for Hurricane 2nd letter is M for Mulching compatible 3rd letter is S for steel deck 1st two digits are cutting width, in this case 46 for 46cm (18inches) 3rd digit = engine type, 2 for a 2-stroke engine or 4 for a 4-stroke engine, 3rd digit does not designate engine type on all Victa mowers so beware.
Models I have seen personally:
Modern Hurricane 2-stroke 18" model with mulching support: HMS462
Hurricane 2-stroke 19" model without mulching support (no bracket under the mower chassis to support the mulching plug): HUS482A
I'm trying to buy mower Blades for my victor hurricane. Is the hurricane 18 ,19 or 20 inch?
If you have a HMS462 it is 460 cm = 18 inch so you need 18 inch blades.
How does this mower mulch as the one I have does not have a mulch plug to insert? Also, I have been told that the 4 mulching blades for this model are no longer available only the straight blades. If this is correct, how are you supposed to mulch the grass. Would appreciate advice on these matters.
Who told you this? Did your mower come with the 2 blade oval disc or a bar blade configuration? If you had a bar blade fitted as standard then the blade boss can possibly be changed to a modern Victa lug blade boss EE14417A and 4 blade mulching disc fitted.
Your mower based off the model number should support mulching given the second letter in the model is M for Mulching but to confirm mulching support open the rear flap and look to the righthand side inside the chassis at the bottom, you should see a metal bracket which supports the mulching plug, if you mower does not have this bracket it cannot be used to mulch.
What size is the fuel line for the Victa Hurricane?
I couldn't find them either ended up getting car fuel hose at super cheap auto!
how many blades on a Victa Hurricane 500
Depends on the fitted blade disc. Some mowers come with an oval blade disc that can only take 2 blades, others come with a round 4 blade disc that can take 2 or 4 blades. Mowers with the 2 blade oval disc can be upgraded to the round 4 blade disc.
How do you start the mower? I just bought a second hand one.
Nothing wrong with motor and mine always started easy. Ensure enough fuel and oil and the throttle is in the right position. Press the prime button until fuel comes through (about 3 times) then pull the cord.
Is the victa hurricane mulch + catch 18" or 19" and which genuine blades does it require?
All the Victa Hurricanes I have seen are 18" (note 19" might exist but I have never seen one). You're best off getting your local mower shop to check and if in future you don't want to pay whatever they're asking for blades ask them for the model number and size of the blades they fitted.
I have a hurricane 20in
What fuel does it use??
4 stroke petrol
You mean just pure Petrol? I know for 2- stroke engines you use a mixture of petrol and lube oil.
Victa Hurricane V144 2691908, is this mower supposed to idle? Mine doesn’t and Bunnings is no help. Cuts well etc, just want to make sure its ok not idling. Thanks
The V series engines are Chinese junk with poor build quality and sometimes don't run right from new or have issues after minimal use. If it is still under warranty get Bunnings to repair or replace the unit at their cost.
If it is out of warranty take it to a Victa dealer and have them check it.
throttle stays on high revs
Hi have victa hurricane 4 years. Great mower but just stopped one day. When runing did have strange clanking noise for many months but ran ad started well. Did the usual clean fuel, cleaned carby, new oil, new spark plug new coil, good spark. Filter off ad plenty of fuel getting to carby. Used starting fluid. When starting sort of humns and farts then that's it. What can i do next
Tried the Victa hurricane mower for the first time. I was very disappointed it didn’t have the power to get through the grass anywhere near like my 20 yr old victa. It stalled about 20 times. It Can’t handle the grass and clogs quickly. Tried with the mulch and then the catch. The catch doesn’t even catch it all either. I will have to return it. Not acceptable for a brand new mower. Will I be able to get a refund?
I agree with all your comments. I had to raise the wheels most of the time. And to use the muncher I had to hold up the guard flap with a cane otherwise it would catch on the grass when you pulled it back as it is lower than the chassis. As to whether you can get a refund, that will depend on the store. Good luck with that. You certainly should get a refund on what is essentially a piece of rubbish
Yeh I noticed that. I think you have to have the catcher on when mulching just to hold the flap up. I think the mulch plug just stops it going back into the catcher. That’s what I did anyway. But the mower has trouble getting through the grass either way. I think it’s partly because there is just one big blade underneath. Most mowers I’ve seen have 4
Hello, Would you please explain how to stop the bag of the so called grass catcher from falling off as there appears to be no definite fastening method. After my first attempt there was almost no grass in the so called catcher but there was plenty everywhere else. After parts for my Victa 160 2 stroke mower, I decided to replace it with a Hurricane and what a disappointment on the first attempt.
Where can you buy blades for this model
is that the V144 engine with the yellow mower deck. the one that bunnings sold?
20 inch?
how do i fit the mulcher to the mower
How do you change from mulching to catching please
I do not have a Manuel for my victa hurricane and not sure how to change it from mulching to catching. Thanks
Hi Kym, You have to remove the mulching plug at rear of mower under the catcher flap/door..... it has a grab handle to easily remove by hand... once removed, install catcher bag and mow away :) hope this helps.
What is the correct fuel mix for victa hurricane 2 stroke mower?
It depends on the vintage of your Victa 2-stroke engine. With older Victa 2-stroke engines 25:1 is recommended regardless of oil type (I've run high spec JASO FC and FD semi-synthetic oil 50:1 on these older Victa 2-stroke engines myself without issues as have others I know but there's no guarantees).
The newer Eco Torque engines were optimised for lower oil use and reduced emissions and can run 50:1 with the right types of high quality 2-stroke oil.
For late model Victa 2-stroke Eco Torque engines (commonly have an E in the engine name for example VE40, VE50, VE60, VEX60) JASO FA, FB or older spec mineral 2-stroke oil needs to be mixed 25:1.
Newer semi-sythetic or fully synthetic JASO FC and FD spec 2-stroke oils can be mixed at 50:1 for late model Victa 2-stroke Eco Torque engines. Some JASO FD oils suggest mixing at 100:1 but I'd advise against as it would likely kill the engine.
If your mower has had a hard/long life and/or suspected engine wear it wouldn't hurt to give it a little more oil, say 40:1 if you use JASO FC or FD spec oil.
Even at 25:1 JASO FC and FD spec oils will burn significantly cleaner then older mineral and JASO FB oil leaving less carbon deposits in your engine due to better detergents and dispersants.
I run 50:1 Prokut semi-synthetic JASO FC 2-stroke oil (most independent mower shops sell it and current batches may be upgraded to FD spec oil) in my 2-stroke Victas, once the engine has warmed up there is no visible smoke and only the faintest smell of burning oil, so much nicer then back in the day when we had to use older and far more polluting low spec mineral 2-stroke oils.
Beware of Penrite Greenkeepers 2-stroke oil as while Penrite normally make quality oils their Greenkeepers oil is low spec JASO FB mineral oil and has to be mixed 25:1.
Victa often suggest 25:1 as they'd rather you overlubricate then underlubricate your engine.
With overlubrication there may potentially be more carbon deposits in the engine which might cause it to not run as well as it ages but it will still run.
When you under lubricate your engine by using too little oil you may wreck the engine and cause it to cease. Wear around the exhaust port, wrecked piston rings and wear on the pistol skirt are telltale signs of a lack of oil.
A lot of people don't know not all 2-stroke oils are the same and that there are different oil specs for 2-stroke oils which affect mixing ratios for some engines.
