faultless for such a small camera. However the obstacle avoidance can only detect objects in front and behind the drone so it definitely helps to have some experience at flying drones because I've seen so many people crash there's. The range isn't a good as it suggests but that is definitely not a deal breaker. I've flown 3km away and the reception dropped out. Low and behold. It came right home to me. That's the beauty of these magnificent quadcopters. DJI work to iron out all of the gremlins in these drones. I absolutely love mine!

upload them for the world to see and you loose you intellectual rights. Even DJi tech staff can't figure it out, and tell you your Drone or controller is broken, and are quick to get off the phone. A quick look around the forums tells a different story. Its a known problem and with the technology available today. Why not just write a patch to remedy the problem or is it that frustration will force you to by a new model..... I paid over $3500 for mine.

suddenly drop to 2 bar or worst no signal. This is completely unfair. DJI releases the update and it breaks our device. What happens to devices whose warranty has expired? Do I have to pay DJI again for my device that DJI broke?

experience with subsequent DJI drones. The progress that DJI has made since those earlier days is just breathtaking ☺️! The drone had been inactive in its box for a few years and lived mainly in the garage!

To my amazement the battery charged up fine for a few hours, the DJI GO app on my phone engaged fine. I must find a better holding bracket for the phone as the original had broken. As you can see on the picture, I had fitted a few years previously the quite large propeller guards. These clipped and screwed on and tightened together even closer with the nylon string provided. For the moment I leave these on as we are surrounded by plenty of trees and shrubs. I do have at least 20 sets (?) of spare propellers in case of crashes though! ☺️

Flight was a little unstable with the prevailing gusty conditions on the day, it saw only 4 or 5 satellites and GPS functionality dropped out a few times, I have not dared sending it up higher than 30-40 metres higher or going very far until I'm a little more confident in my navigatonal skills vs the currnt range of DJI that flies itself and is impossible to crash, even if you try really hard!

My son (and I) were flying the DJI Phantom 3 on the outskirts of Canberra one day, trying to get a better look at the bushfires South of the city, when my son lost contact with the drone. I had resigned myself to the loss but when we returned to the car there was the drone peeping out from between the long grass, it had found its own way home! If productreview.com.au lets me, I'll upload that video of that flight: pretty good resolution of the video, it was a clear day!

I'll edit and post more feedback on this quite acceptable, even by today's standard, quite large drone compared to say the DJI Mini series ☺️☺️

Before anyone bags out on DJI drones, or drones in general for that matter, think about what they're actually physically doing. This is stuff we dreamed of as kids 30 -40 years ago - really think about what they represent.

Now, onto my drone. Wanting to add another element to my youtube videos and footage, I saved hard and splashed out on a Mavic Air which I've owned now since October 2021 and can do nothing but rave about it !!!

I purchased a Mavic Air ( through Facebook marketplace ) from a fella who purchased a brand new DJI factory refurbished Fly More combo unit. He'd bought it in October for $1,000 from a DJI agent and sold it to me a few weeks later for $700 so it was practically brand new, his loss was my gain. This thing is awesome.

I had flown it once or twice in the open to get a feel for it however whist flying it over the Christmas period a month later, it unfortunately had a brain snap and decided to go mental, shooting left and right and then taking off up in the air at an alarming rate before clipping a tree and crash landing itself in a dam - popping the battery out into the water too. I was quick to leap in after it however it was stuffed !!!

Only minutes before, I'd been using one of the automated modes, where it follows you along, and lucky enough for me, in the cache footage that backs up on your phone ( crucial you set this up right to help cover your in an incident ), it clearly showed that I wasn't touching the remote at all when it first started going stupid, stopping and panning around in a semi circle from left to right then back to the left etc. I thought this was a little odd but didn't think too much of it and kept flying it for a few more minutes until it came down.

So I jumped straight onto DJI and even though I didn't have the DJI refresh care, I sent it back to them with a full flight log from my iPhone and my fingers tightly crossed. They replied a couple of anxiously waited weeks later to tell me it had water inside it - I knew that already LOL. ( they have a paper strip inside them that changes colour once wet and that's how they know, there's no lying here folks for a freebie ).

I did a heap of online research whilst awaiting their response and based on other videos seen on YouTube and on forums ( thank god for the internet ! ), I came to the conclusion that the IMU unit was possibly faulty. Even DJI admit, hidden away online somewhere and deep in their non comprehensive brochure, that the IMU unit inside the drone can sometimes be thrown out of whack from shipping or storage upside down etc. Seems odd that something so sensitive, that controls whether your drone soars like an eagle or crashes down like a lead balloon, can be "thrown out" or mis-calibrated simply by poor storage handling practises.

I suggested to DJI, throw many emails back and forth, that the I believed the IMU unit was the problem and that I ( seemingly ) knew what I was talking about. This may've been enough to call their bluff ... maybe, who knows ?

I pushed back on them a little, not much - just a little sternly and politely, and said how even though it was a factory refurbished unit, it was only a month or two into their 12 month warranty period so I would prefer a brand new unit.

They came back with flying colours ... regaining my faith in customer service by replacing it with a BRAND NEW unit and a brand new battery also, as the other had ended up in silty murky muddy water 4 foot below. I've never looked back since !

So I am stoked !!!

As far as the drone itself goes, brilliant ! PROS : * fantastic quality of both still and video ( unbelievable this technology ) * small and compact ( fits brilliantly into an aftermarket moulded & padded case ) * super easy to fly and master straight from the box ( with caution of course ) * intuitive flight modes making is super easy to obtain great cinematic style footage * smart looking * excellent app and great interface within your phone * good range of accessories available * not too shabby flight times with Fly More combo pack ( the extra 2 batteries help ) * decent flying time ( but not the best )

CONS : * would like longer flight times ( maybe if they did extended batteries or similar ) * sometimes, if not flown for a little while, it keeps asking you to calibrate each time you go to fly it ( which is not the end of the world, just annoying but I do it so there's no potential for another crash )

Would I buy another one ? YES !!! - without a doubt in the world ( only for my bank account not liking it ) Is this based on the drone itself or their customer service ? Both !!!

good as out doors. A gust of wind can shift it and it would not hover steady.

Takes great pictures only when there is sufficient light indoors. Any artificial lighting will be grainy.

Its a good as a toy, or a starter drone to give you some experience in flying a drone before buying a "real drone".

Videos taken are choppy and skips for some reason and its a known issue.

to them but I am a total noob when it comes to these high end drones. The first time I flew it I looked like I new what I was doing. The drone is very easy to fly and extremely forgiving. The pictures you get from the supplied camera are awesome. When the wind blows the drone it flies itself back to position without your input. The only falt with its design is the light on the back that tells you its status (GPS, battery state etc) can only be seen from one angle, so if it is not pointing away from you you can't read it. All in all a great purchase if you are in the market for a drone. Worth the price asked.

when connected to remote took it back to shop 4 months later told it was my issue 8months+ of hassl ,Harvey Norman and DJI didn't offer new 1, Harvey Norman didn't care drone now in bin, im out $3000+ including phone don't buy into this trap

for some photos but it seemed that all I need was a mobile phone for similar pictures. My son said why don't you look at a Drone it will give you a new perspective on video. He said this Drone is entry level. I looked at all the videos on youtube and I was hooked. I purchased it form JB HiFi as I looked at some on line stores but found that they are all the same price. They must all purchased it from the same place in China. When I went into store the sales man showed me the package for $500 I said have a look at your online page it sells for $457 Harvey Norman was the same price. It takes a bit of getting use to but it is like my cat it looks at me and follows me around. I bought the controller for that price and the 2 more batteries. It takes a bit of setting up as you have to upload firmware to the drone as well but its super reactive picture and Video is clear now its just a matter of getting use to flying it. you have to look at the Youtube videos but there are some draw backs for advance users ( which I am not ). it has no collision avoidence so it can bump into things if your not carefull. don't fly it over water as it has sencers underneath that judges horizon and distance from the ground and water confuses it. having said that it is a great biggeners Drone.
