The Sunbeam Kyoto Kettle and Toaster range is aesthetically appealing and positioned as a premium offering. However, the overall build quality does… Read more

not align with its price point.

The kettle raises safety concerns. On several occasions, the lid has unexpectedly popped open during boiling. If left unattended, the kettle continues to boil until manually switched off or the lid is closed. This appears to be from the lid’s construction, primarily plastic, including the latch, with a painted finish rather than aluminium on the exterior.

Additionally, the lower section of the handle, which is covered by a plastic casing, has expanded and detached. It will become impossible to refit properly. Since then, the kettle has begun leaking water onto the power base, presenting a clear safety hazard.

As for the toaster, while I have not experienced any functional defects, it feels relatively cheap in construction. The top surface is not aluminium but a painted, heat-resistant finish that is prone to discolouration and can't be easily cleaned.

After just over a year of use, the longevity of both appliances appears questionable. Given the recurring feedback online regarding lid failures and leakage issues, it is surprising that Sunbeam has not issued a recall or formally addressed these concerns.

Purchase online via Myers in September 2024 - I'm not expecting them to provide any solutions based on previous reviews.

Perfect toast every time and it cost nothing! – We had a Sunbeam kettle and the handle fell off. It was just over two years old and I wrote a scathing review on ProductReview.com.au. This review… Read more

was read by the people at Sunbeam who after a bit of negotiation they decided to honour the warranty. As I had already purchased a new kettle, they offered me other products and we chose the Sunbeam Alinea Select 2 Slice TA2820W (White). We could have chosen the four slice but two slice meets our needs. This toaster has a list price of $149 which in my opinion it top of the range for such a humble kitchen appliance. What I like about it: Once you have your settings correct you never have to change them. Supplies beautifully cooked toast just the way we like it. Great variety of settings including gluten free. Other settings depend on what type of bread you are toasting; white/grain/rye/sough dough/crumpet or fruit. What I don't like: It is not a cool touch toaster and it takes a while to cool down. Overall, worthy of a five star review.

I brought home the Sunbeam TAM5003SS toaster today and it will be coming back to the store with me tomorrow! It really doesn't deserve a star at all.… Read more

I tested it at lunchtime. What a huge disappointment. Unpacking the toaster was the best part! I found the length of the slots is slightly shorter than my previous two Sunbeam Toasters NOT longer, so my normal two slices of bread would not fit side by side. I tried it with just one piece of bread. The bread isn't square so it went in on its side first. It almost hit me in the face when it leapt from the toaster. One side was a rich good brown, the other was sooo light and the bread had become thin. I didn't give up and turned the next piece of bread standing up. Same result but the top two centimeters were totally uncooked. I decided Sunbeam has gone backwards in quality. I was trying to just replace my previous Sunbeam but it's been discontinued. It went out with a bang yesterday and took out the circuit breaker. It had a good run though. I'm hoping Breville has a really good quality toaster. I have several of their products and they really work well. Good luck if you're in the market for a Sunbeam Toaster! Dianne.

expensive disappointment. The riser ability to get out toast easily is around 25% less height than it should be, so you have to fish for your slices unless they are very big. Dont attempt to toast a sandwich thin - you'll end up losing it right in the bowels of the toaster and never fully get it out. And, it takes forever to toast. A complete waste of money.

lever ceased working when the toaster was inverted (as included in the instructions) to remove crumbs. Both toasters were out of 12 month warranty, however, the coincidence that the same issue had occurred twice with the same product resulted in raising the issue with Sunbeam directly. With the first toaster I accepted it was broken, which required a set replacement as Sunbeam discontinued this model, but was unhappy the second time round. Despite multiple emails to Sunbeam (including proof of purchase, photos and video), they refused to assess the toaster because it was beyond the 12 months which was unreasonable as it clearly a product issue - separate to a warranty issue. Sunbeam refused to replace or refund. The product was returned to Myer to share with their Sunbeam representative - unsure why this product is even on the shelves to sell to customers! Sunbeam toasters do not last beyond 12 months when you invert them to gently remove crumb which cannot be extracted from the bottom trays. Sunbeam toasters are a crap product and particularly expensive when purchased as a set (which they also delete) they are hoping you will repurchase just like we did. Invest in a different brand!

toast dark (like I do) you have to set the toaster on maximum, when it finishes that cycle, turn your bread ( so it e ens the browning)and repeat on maximum again. For crumpets you have to repeat the cycle nearly 3 times, if I'd known I had to stand there and continually turn my toast or crumpets I wouldn't have bought this item, especially for the price that they are, if I could I'd return it for a refund.

boil and at times even when switched off, there is a 'ding' sound like when it switches off. The toaster works well but unfortunately the toast is not evenly toasted. This is why I have only given 4 stars. One side is always lighter than the other side and if you like even toast then it is hit and miss to turn the bread around. There are various settings options and when I have cooked crumpets these need a second toasting too so again it is hit and miss for a good toast finish. The top of the toaster does get hot and there is a warning but the sides of the toaster are relatively safe to touch. The kettle does get hot as it is stainless steel, and both products do show finger marks but generally are easy to clean. Being an older person I found it easy to lift the kettle when necessary. Overall the products are worth what you pay and in the three months of use I am satisfied with both toaster and kettle.

years from purchase. 22 months approx. Of course the warranty is 12 months but Sunbeam has a commitment to quality so I decided to contact them for a replacement as a consumer I would expect a kettle to last longer. The cosmetic features eg. black coating on the kettle had started wearing earlier compared to the toaster which had no coating flaking issues, but didn't bother as kettle was working then also the numbers on the water level gauge had worn within a few months. Once kettle failed to switch on, I contacted Sunbeam who admitted product is faulty and out of warranty period they are not able to offer a replacement. Then they write "I would have loved to replace the product for you as I would love you to continue using the product but our system does not allow me to do so". Therefore they are just brushing me off and are not prepared to resolve the issue. Very poor customer service imo. I will not be purchasing another Sunbeam appliance in future. Very disappointing.

toaster “.

I liked the look of this SUNBEAM and took the dive.

I can only compare it to me previous cheapie.

First, this SUNBEAM toasts my bread, Muffins, begels, bread rolls perfectly on both sides without the need to turn and rotate the bread.

It has that extra lift feature to view the browning progress without cancelling the heat.

It has an LED surround light at the bottom if the toaster. Whilst I figured this is just fir a flashy look, it could also serve as a safety deterrent letting the kids know the toaster is on.

The toaster looks nice and shiny and as the name suggests, has that “ New York “ city chic look that would look more at home in Tokyo.

All in all, a highly recommended toaster for the family.
