Black Wolf Cicada Questions & Answers
hi all, planning on a backpacking hiking trip in victorian high country in winter, with your experience i notice its fine in the wind, just double checking with the wind rain and colder months? would it withstand that type of climate? thank you for any information.
Hi, this tent will definitely stand up to all those conditions. The front vestibule is large enough to stow yr packs whilst yr sleeping. I'm in Victoria & I've used it in winter with a feather sleeping bag and was dry and warm as toast. It has a back vent that you prop open so you don't condense inside with your breathing. It is a very durable tent. I lend mine out to friends as well and it's still good as new. I have a few tents, ranging from 1kg to 5kg, this one sits in the middle, I split the carrying of this tent with someone taking the pole bag. Thanks for asking and have a nice walk.
Can I use this tent above the snow line Ie back country Kosi' ?
Tent has a slight flat point with the potential for some snow build up. Apart from that, I'd think it would perform fine. Ventilation is maybe a bit too good for 4seasons - probably a true three season tent.
I have an earlier version of this tent (yellow in colour). Other design changes I'd make, that may have been addressed in the new model, are the entrance is a bit tight and the pole insertion for the single pole required in the fly sheet is a bit tight.
The tent would go ok in the snow I'd reckon- it will stand up to most wind conditions.
Good sleeping bags would be more of a concern for snow line sleeping!
Is this good for wind? Hiking in feb the overland Tassie
Hi Gretchen, I live in Tasmania and my Cicada has stood up to some pretty severe winds. I think it is to with the shape of the tent that it becomes wind resistant.I haven't camped on Cradle in it, but I have used it in some other alpine areas and its been all good. That said, make sure you secure it well down and try to find as much shelter as you can. If you can't secure a hut on the Overland, try to pitch your tent using the hut as a bit of wind protection. Enjoy Tasmania, its beautiful!
