Bar vista does not get hot enough. Need to micro wave 20 secs. Cant see adjustment
Hello I cannot get the water to come thru the machine. The machine is powered properly, the tank is 3/4 full everything is locked and loaded, but nothing happens. the water doesn't draw from the reservoir. Is it a gauge or faulty seal? The top warmer area heats up, but no coffee and no steam. Can I fix or do I take to a repair shop? Thank you
Where you put your coffee the small hole is blocked need to knock the filter basket out and clean between holes could just poke with a pin
Hello Ive done that but the problem is with the water storage tank. The water does not come into the machine The machine is heated but the water in the tank does not come into the machine to drip or to steam. Can you email instructions on how to fix? Thank you. Ingrid
My pump wont turn off?
Best guess is the pressure sensor is dead. I think this is in the pump and not a separate standalone item.
If there is an internal leak the pump will keep pumping as it cannot achieve the required pressure.
Hi yes , I have recently brought one I'm just wondering what kind of milk would make it frothy? I've been using masters full cream but hasn't done good froth for me?
Suggest skim milk can improve the frothiness. Possibly your technique. I removed the rubber steam piece and just locate the end of the steamer under the milk surface so it doesn't spray froth. I do the milk before the coffee - let it stand - then redo after the coffee stage for final heat and froth.
Point 1: This machine will not produce a densely frothed milk like an expensive professional machine. Fresh milk is better than old milk. Never put the frother into the milk then turn on the steam as a lot of water comes out before there is any steam.
Run the steam into an empty cup or similar until there is only steam. Do not turn the team off. Swap from the cup to the milk.
The shape of the container in which you froth the milk will affect the froth. Experiment.
If you make the milk too hot the froth will collapse.
just show me how does it works please.
Remove and fill rear clear plastic tank with clean water (not hot). Replace. Plug in turn on power an on/off switch on unit. Half fill with milk the stainless steel jug. Place under and insert frother into milk and switch knob counter clockwise for steam to froth milk. When hot and frothy turn knob to off. Put metal filter to handle unit. Place two spoons of ground coffee into filter and tamp. Place coffee cup under unit. Knob clockwise for water to be forced through coffee into cup. When to the level of coffee turn knob to off. Redo frothing of milk to reheat and froth. Remove cup with coffee, add milk and froth to your taste. For important tips on frothing, type of coffee and coffee tamping look up the internet.

My breville is making all the right nosies I've cleaned the filter under screw but water still isn't coming out any suggestions?
Many possibilities, we will try one at a time.
Check if the valve on the water tank is operating and not blocked.
Water is going into the lower tube but not going through pump into the two other tubes?
Hi KristyA - please contact a coffee specialist in the Breville customer service team on 1300 139 798 to discuss the issue in more detail. Thanks, the Breville team
I am assuming that the portafilter is made of aluminum, as one reviewer has indicated. My portafilter has a greyish matte finish (no longer shiny) and it is a bit of a concern for me. Can you please advise as to what portafilter I can buy (in stainless steel) to replace the original one?
I think the portafilter body is made from chrome plated cast metal. I do not detect any aluminium flavour or look to it with mine. You could try unscrewing the plastic base and soaking it in a bleach and warm water solution and brush washing and rinsing well after about 1 hour.
If you needed to replace it, obviously you need three lugs as most seem to be 2 lugs. I doubt if this expense is worth it.
The portafilter is cast ALUMINUM. See my response in the Cafe Roma section, where I cover what happens you clean aluminum with the wrong cleaner. Getting it back to shiny and non-grey is going to require some elbow grease. Things you might try: soap and a green scrubbie pad, Barkeeper's Friend cleanser, metal polish, boil in vinegar solution. Do not use steel wool.
How do we take the filter off to clean it?
I assume you refer to the filter on the machine immediately above the coffee receptacle where the hot water comes out. There is a single philips head screw that needs to be unscrewed. Remove tank, remove receptacle, unplug unit, upturn on a form surface and press hard to unscrew with the screw driver. Press hard so that you do not burr the screw and make it impossible to remove.
can i buy just the water tank?
No idea. Try contacting Breville.
Because of the age of the unit I think you are better advised buying a whole new unit if that is the problem. You may see one put out during a council clean-up that you can use for parts. Looks like here will supply: external link
Hi I have a Breville Bar Vista Coffee machine which I've had for quite a while. The coffee is not coming out of the spout, but the water is coming out into the water tray. It is like an internal seal had blown? I had a similar problem before with the seal under the coffee filter, but I replaced that and it worked fine. This seems to be a different problem. Any suggestions? Thanks Simone
Hi Simone. I'm not a repairer but 1) is the steam still working? The steamer pipe and nozzle could be blocked and creating problems. Check the switch between steam and coffee is not switching completely. 2) Is the metal filter where the hot water leaves the machine and passes through the coffee clean? I unscrewed the small screw that holds it in mine and cleaned it to remove fine coffee grounds. With that filter removed put a cup right up & under, fill reservoir and turn on as for coffee and see if hot water comes through. Hope you can get yours going. Mine is still working.
thanks I will give 2) a try cheers Simone
I've now tried that and yes its working fine again - there was quite a lot of fine grains of coffee under the filter still. Thanks heaps for your helpful advice
i have two plastic items that came with my bar vista they ar about 75m high and taper from 15mm to 8mm and are round with a silver bit in the top and open at the big end,any idea what they are? thankyou
It could be the cleaning tool for the steam nozzle (steel pin one end), unlocking hexagon middle to remove steam nozzle and removable end with fine steel pin to clean the coffee percolator holes. Normally located under the flip-up water cover in the middle (wiggle to get out). Other than this there was a plastic coffee holder with lid and small brush in the lid.
no i found out what they are ,they screw from underneath the top section and have small screws that hold the top together, they must have broken in transit, will have to try to superglue them back in as the machine is an older model even though it has never been unpacked until today. thanks bob husband

Suggest you check that the spring loaded valve in the base of the water tank is freely moving and nothing is stuck or clogging it that would prevent it sitting snugly in the main unit. Similarly check the main unit that there is nothing blocking the receiving hole. As work around you could try some teflon tape (plumbers white tape) wound a few times around the tank lug to try and improve the seal.
My bes200xl won't start can it be fixed?
Sorry to hear. I can only suggest the standard routine of 1) checking power point is actually on and working and power cable is not damaged, 2) Turn on switch on the machine - top light should always glow red when on and the one below flashes yellow when heating up and then stays on. If no red light switch off/on to see if the switch is problem. If the red light comes on briefly and then off that is the problem. If you get it to turn red and stay on only use the power point to switch on/off and put a sticker on the machine switch to remind you not to use that switch (I used that trick on our washing machine where the on/off failed).
Because the model is quite old and depending on your usage it may be better to replace. My one continues to work and has not had that problem.
Hi Daniel - please contact customer service and if the machine can be repaired they can direct you to the local service agent - 1300 139 798. Thanks, the Breville team
Do you have manual for the operation of the bes 200
Hi Tat - email askus@breville.com.au and if one is available customer service can email it to you. Please allow 48 hours for feedback.
If Breville is not able to help, I have found a hard copy of "Instructions for use" for the "BarVista" but not a maintenance manual (could be scanned onto 6 x A4 pages).
can you make mochachinos with this machine ?
If you mean chocolate and coffee, then yes! You just add chocolate to the cup, mix with a little hot water to make a smooth paste then do your espresso as usual (this is how I made them working in a cafe and did the same thing at home). It's best to use good quality, cafe style drinking chocolate- I don't know how it would work with Milo/Cadbury's etc. Hope that helps!
