Bug Vac Triple Action Flying Insect Trap Questions & Answers
I understand there is an attachment that attracts purely the mosquitoes and flies
Sorry I don’t know about that. Each morning the water tray had heaps of all sorts of bugs in it.
light wont operate and replaced globe
Does this work during the day or just at night?
G'day Eric, it works day and night but not as effective during the day as a larger commercial insect zapper due to the lower wattage light.
Purchased this today and my question is ....Do I leave this device on 24/7 ? Thanks
G'day, it can be left on all the time, I've left mine on for weeks but do pull the tray out to empty rinse and refill weekly when its inside, more regularly when outside due to larger insects.I do top it up every couple days due to evaporation when the weathers hot. Cheers.
Thank you !
I just bought this but the globe doesn’t seem to come on when I plug the device in.
Should I be doing something to switch it on or is it possibly faulty?
I feel so dumb as I just assumed the globe only lit up when zapping until my partner asked why it wasn’t on.
G'day, it should come on, if it's still covered by warranty maybe return it.
Hi, sometimes when they put these together in manufacturing, they don't twist the bulb to the correct location. Remove the plastic cover in front of the bulb, then twist slowly one click at a time until it turns on.
I have an issue with moths in my garden. Will this provide a solution?
It will be moth genocide, I have a bug vac and two other styles that don't use water for when mosquitos are about, the traps nailed most insects around, just put few drops of dishwashing liquid in the water to break the surface tension.
Hi there,
My bug vac fan is working but the globe isn’t
Where can I buy a new globe please?
Hi,
It looks like you can purchase replacement globes from this website, scroll down to the bottom of the page.

I had one for ten years and replaced the globe once in all that time. Eventually it had to be replaced with a new unit and I can never get more than 3 months from any of the globes, mostly about 2 months. I have had the unit replaced by Bunnings at least 3 times (they don't stock the replacement globes anyway) so is anyone else having the same trouble with the globes? I would accept maybe a year from a globe but after my first unit I think at least a couple of years would be reasonable.
John, I’ve had a similar experience with my Bug Vac. My first globe lasted nearly three years but the best I’ve got since then is about three to four months which is really not good enough. Incidentally you can still get the globes through the Bunnings special orders desk.
My Bug Vac is connected through a timer and I run it every night except during the winter months. It does an exceptional job at controlling white lawn moths, but I’d be hard-pressed to recommend one because of the continued expense of replacing the UV globes which for the price are rubbish!

Is the idea to run the bug vac 24/7 or just when you are going to be outdoors?
Hi Carl It depends. I personally run mine in my bedroom from when it gets dark and turn it off when I go to bed, that way I don't get bitten at night. I also run another one in the living room when I go to bed and switch it off when I go to bed. That way I don't get bitten until one gets through the door. I run another one outside overnight in an endeavour to reduce the population and I catch lots, plus plenty of moths, but it's not that effective as more just blow in from the breeding grounds. I don't think they'd work very well in daylight, but I've never tried it. Just experiment and see what works best for you.
Does the bug vac consume a lot of energy? Say more than just using a freestanding fan?
Probably about the same, my 12" pedestal fan is rated at 40 w, while the bug vac says 8w for the tube and 32w for the fan. Can't see how that is right as the bug vac fan is like one in a computer, and doesn't push much air, but take it as a rough guide.
Does Bug Vac capture bird mites in the home?
Hi, don't know for sure but I doubt it, as they are crawling rather than flying creatures. As I understand it they don't have eyes so they would not be attracted to the light source.
Probably not - this is more for flying insects to attract them to the UV light source, then using an airflow push them into the bowl of water.
How much water do I put in the bugvac
Hi Chris, I fill it about two-thirds full, but it's not critical, it will work with more or less. Putting a few drops of detergent in is recommended to reduce surface tension and promoting sinking.
Whatever amount you can carry without it spilling everywhere. I aim for somewhere in between 1/2 - 2/3 full with a couple drops of detergent. After each 8 hour run I check the water level and top it up.
Hi Chris, I put in about 10mm from the top, and check it every now and then, because in the hot weather the level drops a bit.....the reason for being quite full is that the area the fan forced air has to go thru near the water is reduced and therefore the air flows faster thru the gap between the machine and the water level.....this increased wind speed helps trap the little bug&%rs..
Thanks Everyone
