DeLonghi DL2401TF Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: 302384 and DL2401TFAfter weeks of a horrible toxic smell and no receipt to get my money back I also ended up putting my DeLongi oil heater with fan (In Australia) out with hard rubbish. Perhaps an issue related to moving the manufacturing from Italy to Asia around 2000? Cheaper nastier parts and products used? Such a shame. DeLonghi oil heaters used to be so great.

Regarding the “new” smell removal procedure: - The manual says “set it to maximum power for at least two hours...” - Does that mean maximum power AND maximum temperature ie 28deg Celsius? Or is the temperature degree not important? Can I in other words have it on maximum power on 23 degrees Celsius with the same result?
Rgds, H
Yes. It means maximum power and maximum temperature. You want the heater to be as hot as possible to cure the thin oil, the paint and the plastics touching the metal parts. The bad smell are volatile organic compounds. You must ventilate the place room where you place the heater. In 2000 Delonghi bought the Chinese factories of Kenwood making oil filled radiators and closed its Italian factories. My experience with several post 2000 models is that Delonghi oil heaters need several days, if not weeks, of keeping the heater at maximum power and temperature to reduce the smell. You have to start it and stop it too, Thus leaving it on at maximum is not enough. The two hours they mention in the manual only gets rid of the protecting thin cover oil, but you still have the paint and lacquer that needs to cure and the plastics touching the metal parts, which also will change because of the heat. They will never stop smelling when put at maximum power and temperature, but after a few weeks of following this procedure, they will smell a lot less. They will never smell when put at medium temperature and power.
Does the 2400 w delonghi OIL FREE column heater have any Teflon or PTFE in or on them ? And are they safe around birds?
I don’t think the fins are paint coasted metal. Not tested on animals but with my common sense it’s fairly safe
Dear Avs, Thank you for contacting Delonghi Group regarding FEP in our Delonghi heaters. I'd like to confirm our current oil-filled radiators do not contain Teflon. However, Delonghi fan heaters on the Australian market will be equipped with fan motor wiring containing Teflon (FEP).
In order to eliminate the radiator’s “new” smell which is a powder paint coating - We suggest setting the product to maximum power for at least 8 hours when used for the first time. During this operation, the room in which the radiator is located must be ventilated.
During such an operation, until completed and in order to avoid any concern, it is better to take small birds away from the product.
If you have any concerns regarding the above, we recommend contacting your local Vet to discuss further.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you

what are the running costs for this type of heater, thank you Frank?
I had never used my fan embarrassed to admit never really realised I had one. Now I've accidentally discovered it why does it only blow cold air. Also my heater stinks on high. I assumed it was the finish on the metal. I followed the instructions initially and can never put it on high because of the unnatural unhealthy odour.
it should blow hot air instantly like a hair dryer. I’d say something wrong here.
thanks. Does the dial which I am assuming is only related to the timer function by any chance also have any bearing on the heat factor or lack of re the fan? . I'm assuming the fan takes it heating cues from thermostat
My heater is also blowing cold air. I previously read somewhere that it could be a fuse that has gone. Obviously DeLongi needs to look at and rectify this if a few people are having the same problem
Is it a radiant or convection heater
How is it quiet? The ceramic tower heater is 37db, how about this model?
Hi, is the heater safe for children. I will use it to warm up my children room. They are 3yo and 1 to.
Is the heater get very hot?
Hello, I’m my experience so far my daughter who is also 1 just looks at it and doesn’t touch but I’ve touched it after it’s been on for a while and it gets warm but not warm enough to burn little hands.
I can not get rid of the smell of my DL2401TF. I have run it for 10 hours a day for 5 consecutive days on high full heat and the smell has decreased some but is still too strong to use inside a room for heating so currently useless for the required purpose. It does heat up well so no problem with producing heat but cannot be used for heating a room due to the smell. What can I do to get rid of this smell so I can actually use the heater for heating a room? Is the smell a health hazzard? I will appreciate your prompt reply
I have no experience with this model, only the Dimplex. Reviews seem good. There may be something stuck in the heater that shouldn't be there. external link
the only thing l can think of ..was the heater sitting up straight when it was delived mine was upside down when l took it out of the carton l waited about 2 hours and switched it on no problems
Hi there, Its not a health hazard apart from the fact it is unlpeasant. Its just the new smell of the oil getting hot. In some cases it takes a little longer, my new heater took about a fortnight of constant use. Also double check the fins are clean as dust will also cause this smell.
Hi Cheryl B, wouldn't you agree that a fortnight to remove the smell is excessive. I would have expected the Delonghi product to perform as advertised - instructions state 2 hours at full operation for smell removal, not 2 weeks. We have been running the heater on max for at least 12 hours a day for a week now. Surely, if as you say it is the oil getting hot, Delonghi must know why the smell is persisting.
Hi TDW, thank you for your answer, I understand what you are saying and I feel I have already answered your question saying that it is likely the new oil, however in some cases it lingers for longer. If you are concerned that your heater is not performing as it should or that there is a further problem i would be more than happy to organise for customer service to arrange a service of the product so your mind can be at ease when using the product. Always happy to help. And want to make sure you can enjoy your product.
Hi Cheryl B. How do we arrange the service Regards, TDW
Sorry for such a late reply TDW i did not get the message pushed through until now. If you want to direct message us your name and phone number I can have customer service call you. Has the smell died down at all since the last message? Thank you
Hi Cheryl B. Thanks for the response, unfortunately we couldn't take the smell any longer and without the receipt the Good Guys weren't able to accept the item for warranty so it went out with the council cleanup 2 weeks ago.
Is this heater OK to use around birds
Definitely, it circulates the warm air around the environment. However, make sure you isolate the heating areas to ensure your bird not flying in and stuck in there.
What is this heater made of? Why did someone complain about a plastic smell? Thank you.
Hi Anna, generally most new electrical products give off a smell from all the parts being used for the first time this is very standard sand the smell disappears after a few uses. The heater fins are metal.
My fan only blows cold air now it used to blow hot air, any suggestions?
Hi Lia, , I think you will have to put it in to get a quote to get it serviced. I think it may only be a fuse but you won't know until you get it checked. If it is under warranty it will be no problem. If not, just get a quote and decide from there. I never use the fan as I find the heat that radiates from the unit is sufficient. The whole point of an oil heater is that they use very little power to work well. By putting on the fan only uses more power.
Great thanks, will do. And for fhe tip about fan costs
What is the maximum deg C for the DL2401TF
My heater light is not on , and not heating up???? Any ideas? why?
Try plugging it in, and switching it on, this should fix the problem.
What's the energy rating like?
