I just finished my single garage a d used the fleck I'm now considering a 2nd coat due uneven finish. Can I just light sand and 2nd coat over the fleck?

Luke C.
Luke C.

If it's only been 24hrs then you can coat straight over it as it wouldn't have fully cured. Eitherway it wont last, will just be more product to grind off later when it fails.

Craig
Craig

Yes you can Jeff. For best results, sand the area with 120 grit sandpaper, vacuum all dust and wipe the area with general purpose thinners before the second coat.

Can I add non-slip granules to the finishing coat of the water based epoxy coat?

Luke C.
Luke C.

It's not water based. And yes you can. However just get more paint flakes. It will look better and give non slip properties. I don't recommend using this product what so ever. Go to a flooring store and buy what the the professionals use. They are world's apart.

Can you paint the floor the day after etching

Craig
Craig

The only way to know this would be to perform a moisture test has per the instructions. If there is no moisture on the floor after the test, you are good to apply the epoxy.

I have a double garage but I cannot do it in one go due to the stuff I have in the garage. So planning to do in 2 halves. Since it seems 4L single garage pack only comes in water-based version and needs 2 coats I'm thinking of buying a 8L double pack and saving half for the second half of the garage for later use. Can I do that? Are there any problems of opening the cans and keeping for later? In other words, do I have to mix and use the base and activator as a whole at once? Thanks.

Craig
Craig

There are several risks with using the parts of the Epoxy such as contamination, incorrect portion measurements, exposure to air and the time between between opening the can and applying the second coat may cause the different parts to for a custard top.

I am planning on re-applying this product after having had five years of use since the first time I used it. Can you advise preparation of the existing painted floor ( there are several bald patches and scratches from heavy use.

Craig
Craig

Might be best to call Dy-Mark. It can be done with a fair bit of preparation.

Hi, I have paint 2 days ago and noticed some hairline crack, is there possibly way to fix this?

Craig
Craig

Filling in crack with a suitable silicone and then repainting the effected area will be the only way of hiding the crack.

Hi I’m coating over a previously coated floor which was done In Dulux lux I think. It is only 2 years old and showing wear. The concrete was striped back and etched on previous coat ,can I apply straight over or should I lightly sand and degrease prior ?

Craig
Craig

Chances are the epoxy may not stick to the existing paint. It's best to hire a floor grinder and remove the paint.

Ace
Ace

Thanks Craig thought that might be the case.

Can you repaint over epoxy coat with the same product

JaymeB
JaymeB

Hi Peter, yes you can. Preparation for this would be ensuring the floor is clean and dry. And for best results you can sand the surface lightly before cleaning to ensure best adhesion.

Peter
Peter

Thanks for that I did exactly that and it has come up great .

Can I do a polyurethane clear top coat over the epoxy? If so, what polyurethane product is recommended?

Carl
Carl

I’m sure it is possible but I don’t think it’s necessary. I looked into it when I used the product but I couldn’t find a good clear poly product. The Dy-Mark finish is nice and durable on its own

Can you do 2 coats of epoxy?

Carl
Carl

Definatly. One coat, let it dry for two days and then second coat. Dont add any flecks until the secibd coat

JaymeB
JaymeB

Yes you can if you feel it is necessary. Preparation for this would be ensuring the floor is clean and dry. And for best results you can sand the surface lightly before cleaning to ensure best adhesion. Some floors are more porous than others and can require a second coat.

Is it a good idea to use the epoxy paint on a garage floor on a rainy day?

Craig
Craig

High humidity will affect the curing ability of the Epoxy potentially leaving you with a very dull finish. Wait until you have a nice sunny day. :-)

Hello I've recently painted my garage floor followed your instructions but a week later its lifted and paint is like rubber

Craig
Craig

If the epoxy has turned out like rubber, it sounds like there has been some kind of issue with the mixing.
