I purchased a Dyson V* Animal and shortly after one of the little purple pads on the bottom of the direct drive head came off and now I've lost both and it is scratching my hardwood floor. Is it possible to get replacements that will attach properly? or do you recommend the Soft roller cleaner head.
My Dyson V* animal isn't working we have cleaned the filters and checked the pipe isnt blocked - help please
do I have to hold the trigger in to operate the vacumn? is there a way to make it stay on without holding the trigger?

We have hardwood floors throughout our house but we also have a long haired dog. I know the V8 animal is designed for pets and we are very open to that fact, however my question is, would the standard Dyson V8 do the job just as well [or close to as well] given the hard floor consideration or do you really only recommend the animal or animal plus version even with hard floors? Huge thanks!
Hey there, Lauren, there's been a recent update to the Dyson V8™ vacuums, and the Dyson V8 Animal ™ isn't part of our current range. All the models currently listed here: external link will be suitable to use in homes with pets on both hard floors and carpets. The Hair screw tool™ and Motorbar™ Cleaner head are fantastic new tools designed to help with hair-pick up. A Fluffy™ cleaner head is a handy specialised tool for hard floors. At the time of writing, this tool may be purchased separately for Dyson V8™ vacuums.

Hi there, does anyone use this vacuum on wood floors? Does it scratch? Thank you.
I have been using ours on wooden floor boards and have not had any issues. I know there is another attachment you can purchase if you are concerned that is designed for wooden floors. I have been debating getting it but haven't as yet.
Great thank you for your response. It’s a big decision!
The Direct Drive head included with the Dyson V8 Animal is designed to work across carpets and hard floors without causing damage (just make sure the floor tool is undamaged and free of debris first).
Should you have highly polished or delicate hard floors, we would encourage considering a machine with the Soft Roller cleaner head for best results.
Should we be able to assist in your decision, our Dyson Experts are available via external link and happy to help.
Can I buy a soft roller head for the animal 8
My Dyson is aprox 3 years old and has suddenly stopped charging, when I plug it in the charging lights do not come on. Do I need a new battery or could it be the charging cable or port that is the problem?
We'll be happy to help diagnose this and get your machine back up and running. Please just forward your query, details and serial number of your machine via the LiveChat or Messenger links here on our website: external link and our Dyson Experts will be in touch to assist. Does the Dyson Soft Roller Cleaner Head fit on the V8 Animal? I wanted to get an absolute but it seems to be out of stock on Dyson website. We only have hardwood floors so could do with the soft roller head.
It certainly does. We would encourage giving our Dyson Experts a call on 1800 239 766 and we will be more than happy to assist with an order and any queries you have. Our team are available Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEST.
Dyson V8 Animal loses power when on max , even if it has been charging at night is that normal
We have never had much luck with the max setting so haven’t used it. It only ever last about 10 minutes even when it was new. Now our normal setting is the same.
We would encourage running through our online troubleshooting via this link, as troubleshooting can solve many difficulties: external link Should we be able to assist further, please give our Dyson Experts a call (with your machine handy) on 1800 239 766. I'm thinking of purchasing a Dyson V8 Animal. How does it go on hardwood floors? Would I need to purchase an extra attachment to prevent scratching? Thanks in advance!
The Direct Drive cleaner head included with the Dyson V8 Animal is designed to clean both carpets and hard floors. On carpets, nylon brushes dig into carpets to remove dust, dirt and pet hair while on hard floors soft carbon fibre filaments reduce static to pick up more fine dust.
Before moving to hard floors, just check the underside to ensure nothing is caught and the floor tool is undamaged.

Works ok however mine has only lasted 2 and a half years and the change now only lasts for 5 minutes so beware
I have had my dyson V8 animal for a year and a half. Been working up till yesterday. Just stopped even though it was fully charged. I had the big brush on it and you get nothing. Also the smaller brush. However if i use the long tool it works. Cleaned all the filters thinking it could be that but still wont work when brushes are on. Also cleaned those out too. Any idea what could be causing this. Oh and have on a couple of occasion got a hint of a burning smell. Could the motor be on it way out?
We would encourage unplugging your machine and giving our Dyson Experts a call on 1800 239 766 with your machine prior to using it again. Our Dyson Experts are available via our helpline on 1800 239 766 (please just have your machine handy when calling). We are open Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEST.
We look forward to hearing from you and getting your V8 Animal sorted.
Purchased the Dyson V8 Animal 3rd Jan 2018 (so frustratingly, ONLY just out of warranty) from Harvey Norman Morayfield. My mother has a small 2 bedroom granny flat, and for the past 3 weeks has said that she is needing to re-charge mid clean. Today, she said it had taken 3 re-charges to complete cleaning. I have checked myself that machine is fully charged, only being run on high power, and after testing myself, found it was completely out of charge after only 6 minutes. Would appreciate some advice on what to do to remedy this problem.
Your Dyson V8 has two modes of suction; Max and high power. With the motorised head attached the machine will provide 25-30 minutes on high power mode. Without using a motorised tool it can run up to 40 minutes on high power mode. On Max mode, the machine will run for 7 minutes regardless of the tool in use.
Should you find your machine isn't achieving these run times, please get in touch with our Dyson Experts via external link and we will only be happy to help.
Brush head will not turn. Unit will turn on as normal All contacts have been cleaned. Could there be a problem with the direct drive motor? I removed the brush head and when I turn the unit on, I can see the direct drive motor rotate approx 1/4 turn, then it stops. The unit will still be on. Any help would be appreciated
We are sorry to hear the brushbar in your Direct Drive cleaner head isn't spinning. Based on the details provided, this could indicate something not right is happening within the head, however we would encourage getting in touch with our Dyson Experts to confirm.
Our team are available via external link or 1800 239 766 (please have your machine handy) Monday - Friday 8am - 8pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30am - 4pm AEDST.
We look forward to hearing from you and assisting.
I am leaving abroad and want to take my Dyson V8 animal along with me. What precautions I should take while carrying specially battery?
While Dyson don't have any specific precautions, if travelling by air we would encourage speaking to your airline for any precautions or limitations they may have. If you need any further information, our Dyson Experts are available via external link and are happy to help.
Can the roller head on the animal v8 be cut off for high pile carpet?
Hm....I dont know, I have a high pile rug which I have to drag backwards over it.
We do apologise for any disappointment, however to provide great performance across both carpets and hard floors, the brushbar is designed toi be used while spinning and can't be turned off. If we can assist further, our Dyson Experts are available via external link and are happy to help.
From the very first day using our V8 Animal, it left marks on the hardwood floor. The marks come up but not without extra time and effort. Since the machine was marketed for carpet and hardwood, I think the company should supply a solution w/o cost. I requested help from Dyson and they sent new wheels which do the same thing. I know many users experience the same marks. Will Dyson give a free solution so that I can feel good about purchasing from the company again? Jim Cochran [email removed]

The direct drive brush roller no longer spins or sucks. Main body of machine works. Have pulled apart and cleaned machine thoroughly but still not working. Where can I go to in Sydney to get it fixed? Think it might be an electrical issue in the motor. Thank you.

I have the cordless V8 and I am wondering how do your operate without having to hold the on button?
The Dyson cord-free range have been engineered to work with a trigger to allow you to get the most use out of your battery run time. At this stage, Dyson cord-free machines don't work without the trigger being held.
