Gasmate Rio Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: G2006CHi, I bought a rio secondhand but unused. It is going on an outside table but there is a funny wire thing with a hoop at one end that is attached by chain at the other end inside the bbq. What is this for please ?
My gasmate rio takes a really long time to cook. Well over half an hour to cook sausages with the temp on high. Is there something i can do to help it heat up quicker?
Do you heat the plate up first before putting on the sausages ? I find this world for me and cuts down cooking time.
I found the best way is to preheat the bbq with the lid closed for at least 15 minutes before you want to cook. I usually cook the snags with the lid closed periodically and open it to turn the sausages. You don’t need to cook with the lid down however pre heating is essential
Will give that a go. Thanks
Can someone please tell me how tall this stands with the stand? It looks small in the pictures I've seen. Thanks
From the base to the top of the lid is 900mm high
From the base to the cooking surface is 740mm high
Have just purchased one from BCF. The lid does not close all the way with the hot plates installed. Is this the way it is meant to be? Also the small hot plate wobbles a fair bit...anyone else had issues with theirs?
No the lid should close properly. The hot plates overlap each other so make sure that they are connected properly. The grill plate is the first and the flat plate overlaps that.
Thank you for your reply. The manufacturer is replacing the product as they believe it is faulty. Just have to travel 250kms to pick it up!
Check out review 4 out of 5, reviewed on Jan 20, 2016 > You might have the same issue????
Was replaced by BCF as the distributor has no stock of replacement hot plates and will not be getting any! 500 km round trip to pick it up. 2nd one also faulty but this time with different size legs for use off the stand. Wobbled like a jelly when on table. Waiting for BCF to pick it up and refund my money as there was no way I was going to do another 500km round trip. No more Gasmate products for this unhappy camper!
Has anyone replaced the supplied gas hose with one that fits a bayonet fitting on a camper/caravan? I already have a regulated gas supply going to the bayonet fitting, so was wondering if a simple gas hose with a bayonet instead of the regulator and threaded end can be used on these BBQs?
I have used this BBQ with the bayonet fitting on my caravan. A hose was supplied with the van and it connects onto the BBQ no other fittings required
Could someone please tell me what the hole with the coiled metal on the chain hanging out of it is for and why it is not any of the pics?
Manual says that this is a match holder in case the ignitor fails. Turn gas on high and stick the lighted match on the holder through the round hole to light the gas. Hood should be up during lighting with this method
Has anyone had any issues with the stand? Is it sturdy? I saw a display one in a shop and it was so wobbly.....was assuming it wasnt put together properly.
We have never had an issue with the stand. Very stable.
Does this come with a straight flat plate instead of the grill?
It has one flat plate and one grill plate
We are after just a full flat plate
Yes...it has both. The grill plate is about 70% and the flat about 30% of the bbq. The grill plate is just as easy to clean as the flat plate and drains all the fat amd oil off very quickly and easily.
Ok thanks we are after a 100% flat plate no grill thanks for you time
Hello! Can someone please tell me is the temperature controlled on the unit or down near the gas bottle? The pics I'm seeing would suggest that perhaps it's controlled by a knob down near the gas bottle.
The temperature is controlled on the unit. It has a dial taking it from low to high.
Thanks very much!
Am thinking about getting one of these. Was worried that 'you get what you paid for' etc. But these reviews sound good. I did look at one at BCF recently. Was concerned that the lid wasn't as strong as eg Webber or Ziegler Brown.
Tossing up between this one & the Zeigler Brown twin burner, although the ZB will be much more expensive especially if you include the stand too. Want portable, to do the job at home for us & when we have visitors plus to take with us camping etc.
So how are you finding the BBQ now?
I did buy the Gasmate Rio after all. Yet to try it out. It doesn't give instructions for 'first time use' eg: suggestions for when using it for the first time, heating, etc.
Anyone got any good suggestions?
It is the only BBQ we have and we take it to the beach on a regular basis. We also use it at home and it is standing up remarkably well.
I have had one for over 12 months and I find it extremely good. The gas bottle last a long time because it has 1-burner in a J style. It heats up rapidly and holds sufficient meat for about 6 people. I would strongly recommend it - if you can get one - I think that they are no longer available. A pity because they are ideal for taking in the car. The stand is quickly released from the unit. If you do see one, snap it up.

Thanks everyone, I did buy one, on special, from BCF. Have used it once, to test it out. We will be taking it camping this weekend so will give it a good work out...cheers. Glenda. QLD.
Hi, looking for a BBQ that is lighter and smaller than a Weber Q (about size of a Baby Q) and this looks the goods as long as it gets hot hot, want to cook my meat not broil it. How heavy is it annd what are its width and length? Also need it to have a separate regulator, not integrated (photos suggest this is the case).
Cheers
Gary
This is a very light BBQ and yes it does get hot.... we have never broiled our meat. It stands about 90 cm high but can come off the stand and sit on little legs on a table and is about 70 long and approx 33 wide. We are still really happy with it and take it to the beach on a regular basis. Obviously sometimes at the beach, the wind does play and part in the heat but that would be the same for any BBQ.
Does it come with an instruction booklet?
If you mean assembly details then yes but it is very easy to put together.
Yes it does, but it is is easy to use you don't need one.
