I have roomba 531. It won't pick up pieces of dirt but will pick up the dust and the filter is full but the bucket is empty. Any ideas?
Hi Pam, sorry to hear this. I would recommend cleaning the bin and filter of your Roomba, please see instructions on how to do this here: external link Poor pickup can be improved by completing regular maintenance on your robot, although the suction of your Roomba will naturally lessen with age. Please see information on how to upkeep your robot here: external link
Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any further questions. Kind regards, iRobot
Does it work on red brick tile with the grout grooves?
Good Afternoon Bear W
Thank you for your question. As the Roomba works well on tiled floors are cannot see a reason why you would have any issues with Red Brick, however that is dependent on how big the grout grooves are?
Kind regards iRobot
I have a Roomba 530, battery is charged. It goes from the station, stops after a few minutes and tells me "clean brushes" which are clean. Like to find what the cause might be.
Good Morning Ada Thank you for your question. Below the brushes is a bronze coloured sensor. This needs to be cleaned with a pencil eraser or scotch brite sponge (types used for cleaning fry pans). I would also recommend removing the side brush too and cleaning underneath this.
If you are still have issues, please contact us directly at service@ixl.com.au with ref: C0147582 for further troubleshooting.

I am an asthmatic mum with 5 children and 2 pets and thinking to buy the irobot vaccum cleaner ! Any suggestions?
Sue, each situation is different, but I have a dog and the Roomba is good for picking up dog hair. I also have long haired humans in the house and it also picks up their hair. Roomba will pick up a lot of dirt from the floor, but once every couple of months you need to use a stronger 2000w plus vaccum to give the place a clean, especially if you have carpets. As for the asthma, sending the Roomba on its way each day as you go out the door can only assist to remove more allergens thwn not using it. Good luck.
I have a Roomba 530. when it leaves the station, it goes 3 paces and stops . ive cleaned the tray. is there a battery underneath it that needs changing.?
There are a few things that could cause it to stop so soon and you will need to investigate further. Before rushing out and buying a new battery, is it fully charged? here's a link which contains good info that will help <http://www.robots-and-androids.com/roomba-repair.html> also <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-5_NZrgFvI>
Don't know how often you dismantle and do a thorough clean but this alone will make a huge difference....the last one I bought was totally clogged around the motor and I really don't know how it still worked, or worse still, didn't catch fire!
If you do need to buy a new battery there are generic batteries available on eBay and other sites, which are much cheaper than the originals....not that I've had to buy one but know someone who did.
Of course, if you Roomba is still under warranty then don't do void that warranty by doing anything other than cleaning it.
Hope this helps?
I know this is years later but it may help the next person who reads this query. I killed my roomba's first battery, and my first ryobi battery, when I put my ryobi battery charger on the same power outlet as the roomba's dock and I was random with turning it on and/or off. I found out too late that the roomba needs to stay on charge and the ryobi needs to be switched off when it's fully charged. The new batteries may be different.
My chargers now have seperate switches and the roomba stays on and I put a out reminder to turn the ryobi off before I go to bed...or within 24 hours...whichever comes first.
My system seems to be working so far as I haven't had any tragedies since I separated them.
Hi . Just one question. One of my light house is not working . I put new batteries in , but still the light does not light up when Vacum is in progresss cleaning . Can you please tell me what's wrong with it ? Thanks .
Your Sincerly
Maryanne Zirafi.
I'd try another pair of batteries....new batteries don't always mean they carry a full charge and could have been sitting on a shelf somewhere for a while. Also check that the previous batteries didn't leak inside the lighthouse casing or that the contacts aren't corroded etc. ;-)
If I only have one station which is on the floor will it go through open doors
I only have one as well. I often shut doors as a barrier in that case it will not be able to go back to the base . But with doors open it usually does find the base but from time to time it will loose the base and I just go pick it up and put it on the base. But its not offten that happens
I have 5 doorways and Roomba has no problem cleaning all the rooms before returning to base.
Does it work on black floor tiles? Was told by sales assistant it wouldn't.
We have the Roomba 780 which is a different model and use it on light coloured tiles, however I can't for the life of me think why it wouldn't work on Black specifically. We do also have medium grey carpets and it works fine on those. When we bought the Roomba it had a money back guarantee so on that basis you dont have anything to lose. We were so impressed with the Roomba 780 that we bought the floor washing one as well The Scuba and it too has been sensational. If you are buying Roomba from a store take a black tile down there and test it with the spot clean function.
Hi Lesley The cliff sensor built into the roomba registered the dark tiles and flooring as a void/cliff/stair as the beem is relected back slowly or not at all. Roomba's placed on dark tile and flooring will normally freeze on the spot or display an error message, when approaching dark area(this can also inclue black lines on a rug) or drop it change directions to prevent fall damage.
Kind Regards
Rebekah
Can anyone tell me what how to correct / fix the sensor problem, error 9?
Hi there... I am not 100% sure but the easiest way to check if it is a REAL problem is to remove the main battery from the machine. Just unscrew the casing and lift it out for 30 seconds then put it back. It will then ask you to reset the date etc, but SHOULD remove the error 9 message. Its like rebooting a computer or iphone. Let me know if this works please. If it doesnt contact the supplier direct and they will fix it.
I have a roomba vacuum. I love it.
I just wanted ask why it won't vaccum three of my rugs?
Thanks
If it is the longer leather shag fashion rugs like my daughter has in her room it gets caught in the brushers, and stops after a few seconds on the rug . for those rugs you must hand vacuum. Personally I would not buy a longer shag that the roomba wont go on any more .
Am having trouble with charging the roomba after it has been unused for a 6 months. Continues to say "charging error 3" and a red light is flashing. I have reset the software by pressing on the "clean" button for 10 seconds and also pressing both buttons above and below the clean button for 10 seconds. I have also plugged the charger directly to roomba and not on the base and it still is not charging. The roomba did work the first time I used it after 6months but now has no charge. What do i do?
If its still under warranty I would contact I robot here . It is the message I get when the battery has gone and need to replace it . It looks like you have had trouble from the on set this can happen with electricals ,but they are good with there warranties
Does it cope with cat hair, fine sand? Will it scratch bamboo floors?
Cat hair and fine sand it LOVES! Dont have Bamboo floors so no idea about that one
hi just wondering if anyone uses a roomba on slate and wood floor combination and if so how do you rate it?
Used it on timber floors only to have them scratched.. customer service more than unsatisfactory.
We require a replacement Dust Pan for our Roomba 530, where can we purchase this item?
Direct from supplier is the easiest.
would you say the Roomba vacuums the carpet covering the area well or does it miss bits and you have to position it to pick up. Thanks.
So long as you let it go long enough it covers floor well.
Hi just like to know does when it docks the clean light stays on and the blue lights while its chargeing is that normal?
Hi Annette, the "Clean" light flashes amber (or orange?) while charging and then when it's fully charged, the solid green light is on. I haven't seen any blue lights on during charging. Just be carefull, this is my experience with normal operation, but you may want to consult the user manual for your case...
Cheers,
Alex
Does the room a scratch wooden floor boards?
Not at all - (though our dogs do!)
Yes they do, despite customer service advising that no parts of the machine come into contact with the floor that could cause scratching.
