We have just purchased a miele cat and dog vacuum. Can you us the pet turbo head on floating floorboards or do you have to use the other head?
There was a floor board head when we bought it but its never come out of the box.
I just lower the level when i go over them and back up when I'm on the carpet. Hadn't scratched or damaged them.
Hope this helps
Thanks it does!
Naomi. Not sure on the floor board question. Maybe some one else can help.
Vacuum suddenly lost suction and showed full red indicator. Changed bag. Now shows full red (and loss of suction) only when hose is attached. How can I check for debris in the hose?
Probably a heat fuse which as triggered. Will fix it self if off for an hour or so.? Empty hose somehow.
Metal coat hanger or two straightened out
I am trying to decide between purchasing a Miele Cat and Dog Turbo or a Dyson DC54 animal barrell. I am searching for a long lasting, great suction machine. Does anyone have experience with both of these vacuums and perhaps recommend one over the other?
Hi, Well my mother, back in Canada has a slight obsession with the Home Shopping Channels and has amassed 5 and counting Dysons, 2 uprights (Animals), 2 barrel (Also Animal in the names) as they have two very sheddy dogs. And also Handheld with its V6 digital motor thing. I know. It sure why one would need so many, but then again I have two, a Hybrid. (No longer made) and an S8xxx. I have to say mine are no only quieter, more powerful, but they clean 100 times better than the Dyson, and they don't feel as flimsyly made. Dysons quality and build quality is attrocious. Also I had never been able to vacuum, carpet or timber or tile floors without being static shocked. They are messy to empty, and if you google on YouTube clips about how good the filters on the Miele are, it's astonishing. When my mother came to visit and tried the S8, she was seriously amazed and when she got back home, she bought a Miele that was available there and said she'd never look back. She actually did this, upon me recommending it; vacuumed a room three times over with a Dyson until nothing more filled the waste container, then got a new bag and used the Miele just once. She said that the Miele picked up so much that the Dyson missed that much over three times, it actually disgusted her to find out paying that much for what really are glorified Dustbusters. From that day forward as appliances began to break and or need replacement, she has converted to Miele, from Vacuum, to microwave, to dishwasher so far, and the Dysons sit sadly collected dust. True story if you wa t a Dyson, you'll get a vacuum that looks cool, but is so inferior in every way, from build quality, to performance, to quietness, to actually cleaning the air that goes in and comes out cleaner than when it went in. Good idea, but just poor execution. It's like say Chery Automotive building a BMW 5 series, it's not going to come out like the German made ones, just a simple fact.
I am biased, as I love all my Miele products, hence giving you a story of someone who converted based on many reasons, and not just one reasons, but several. Good luck, but if you can try the "test" out. Vacuum first with a Dyson several times, then use a Miele once, you'll honestly be amazed by that alone. Let the product speak for itself!@
Cheers and good luck with your choice.
Is it worth it to buy a second hand vacuum cleaner or much better to buy a brand new one?
Brian, I would not buy a second hand one - you don't know its history and you could be throwing money away if it does not work properly - also no guarantees on a used machine. If you have animals in the house then you need a good cleaner with great suction - the Meile does this very well. Best I have ever used.
Ok thanks / the answer seems reasonable and I am probably going to listen and buy a new vacuum cleaner when I can afford it that is / thanks again - cheers
We have polished wood floor, does Miele s8230 have a head for wood floor? I saw it has a header with hard brush. Will that will damage the polished wood floor?
The brush head for tiled or vinyl floors does have hard bristles, but no harder than the usual vacuum cleaner brush head. I think it would be fine - until the head gets old and the bristles may flatten down a bit, which may bring the metal part into contact with the floor, which would probably scratch it. However the brush head design is similar to all vacuum cleaner brush heads, so unless you can find a brush head with slightly longer bristles, then Miele will be suitable. PS to wash a shiny wooden floor and keep it shiny, do NOT use floor cleaners - use one cup of strong black tea and one tablespoon vinegar into bucket of warm water. Floor will look new forever!
Thanks Leanne, I will try it and see.
If you "love" your polished wood floors, consider investing in a Parquet Twister. The 'net is your oyster, so you may be able to shop around for the best price.
Hi,
I'm looking at buying the 8320 Cat and Dog, and Chucky mentioned that there is an optional HEPA filter I can buy. Can anyone let me know where I can get it from? I can see replacement HEPA filters but for other models so I'm not sure which one will fit.
Thanks,
All Miele Barrels accept the same size/shape filters(Its a modular piece, no model to model differences), be the Carbon(Active Air) or Hepa filters. Simply find one through Harvey Norman or The Good Guys, I think you can get em online from Miele too.
For the S8320, you'll want the SF-HA50 Active HEPA filter. RRP is AUD$54.90, but you can find cheaper (genuine) ones if you shop around. Bear in mind there's been some modification from the previous model of the filter, which was designated SF-AH50. This previous type was coloured light blue, and incorporated a small layer of active carbon as well to help deal with odours coming from the dustbag. The newer model SF-HA50 is coloured white, and doesn't have the carbon layer, but allows better air permeability, which improves suction. Which is better? You have to decide for yourself!
