I just bought a 2003 verada and want to know what is the worst problem these cars have pls it has a new battery, but had to jump start it the other morning after two days of not starting it pls help and what's fuel consumption like also pls thanks
Fuel consumption can vary depending on age of vehicle etc. As for common problems, they can vary like any other vehicle. it all comes down to how the vehicle has been looked after through it's age. however I would recommend doing a Google search on "common issues with Mitsubishi verada 2003". This would lend you a few forums and sites of people who have had experience with this. I know transmissions tend to go in the Mitsubishi after a certain period of time if they are not maintained correctly. Sometimes you may even have issues with the ECU. As for your current issue of having to jump start your vehicle over numerous days, it sounds like you may have a crook alternator. I would assume that there is no charge getting to the battery upon starting the vehicle. I recommend taking your vehicle to an auto electrician for further inspection or if you are in roadside assistance ask them to test the vehicle for you. I hope that helps Debra.
The wave spring in the transmission can be an issue, my 2003 Verada with only 98,000 k's on it had to have a broken wave spring replaced at a cost of $1800. Fuel consumption around town can be heavy if driven hard, drive careful and it will be ok, on the highway its ok at about 9litres/100 k's
Hi all, My verada is real good in all sector but the fuel consumption is freaking me out ..... sometimes its shows/ gives like 18L/ 100km ... that's way much for me... Is this similar problem for any one of Verada users...??? Can anyone help me what should I do for not to consume too much fuel.... I don't want to sell my car for that reason... HELP ME !!
Mine uses approx 15L/100km around town and 9-10/100km out of town. the more kilometres you have on your car the more fuel it will use due to the motor getting older and more tired. There could be a number of reasons why it's using more fuel. Do you have a hole in your exhaust? You could also have a crook oxygen sensor or air flow metre. I would suggest taking your car to Supercheap Auto and asking for a full diagnostic check. It will cost you $28 for a printout which will give you any errors or problems with your car. I hope that helps.
What problem does Engine warning light indicate. ?
mine was a dodgy sensor. Computer fixed it a few other dodgy sensors in 20-30 min
Dear All, I have a Verada 2004 Sedan KL (3.5L). The auto transmission seems to have hiccup in 5th gear. I will change the transmission fluid + filter. do you know a good honest mechanic in Sydney?
Does anyone know how to deal with over heating issues? I have a Mitsubishi verada 2004, excellent car up until a couple of days ago I noticed it started steaming From the engine while driving.. I’ve put coolant in it and that’s as far as my knowledge goes with overheating. I’ve been to four different mechanics and no one has time to look at my car this weekend. I’d appreciate any kind of advice.
Have the cooling system pressure tested including the radiator cap with the heater turned to the on position. If all is deemed ok ,next remove the Thermostat to ensure that it isn’t stuck semi closed of fully closed position as this will cause overheating. It can be tested easily. If that isn’t the problem check that the radiator fan works. It may have a blown fuse, seized or faulty fan or Relay or a faulty coolant temperature sensor.Or the computer isn’t providing an Earth for the fan circuit. The water pump impeller may have disintegrated if made from steel over the years and not circulating coolant properly .If this is found to be the cause get the cam belt replaced at the same time to save money. The radiator may need removal and dismantled and professionally cleaned as the core can block up and it can cause overheating .If the exhaust blows white smoke it could have a blown head gasket and needs to have the cylinders pressure tested to rule out the cause.Any qualified mechanic would systematically work through the list to find the exact cause. With an older car it could be something common and simple or more age related which may require more investigation.Never add coolant to distilled water at a rate greater than 50/50 but 35% coolant to 65% distilled water is fine in Australia’s climate.I’m a mechanic/Auto tech so it has got to be one or several of these issues.Note that if steam is coming from the radiator fairly quickly after running then the Thermostat is the most common cause .Be sure to replace it anyway now it’s boiled.I just hope you haven’t damaged the head gasket or cracked the cylinder head or block.Good luck
What is the best model Mitsubishi verada?
kh model had the standard 4 speed auto with external filter for servicing kj model had the 4 speed triptronic with no serviceable filter kj series 2 had the 5 speed tiptronic with no serviceable filter
all are fantastic cars , even the later kl and kw models if you like the front styling of them
cant go wrong with ay of them as long as they have been serviced and check the trans fluid colour, should be pinkish not dark brown /black
I agree with Carlos - KJ series II is the pick in may view looks better than the KL and has lots of nice gear esp in the Xi - 5 speed auto is good too. They are starting to get a bit tired at 12 years and often 250,000+kms, so be careful - any single significant fault is reason to look elsewhere.
My 1997 verada appeared to have a flat battery, someone tried to jump start the car with both a portable and original jumper leads, now car won't even start with a new battery or a new starter motor?
hi
if your dashlights come on then go out as soon as youturn the ket to start it,i can only think that the battery terminals are not making proper contact.
please recheck this
thanks
I had the same problem as you with my 1997 Mitsubishi verada ei just today as we tried jump starting it and the car wouldn't start so after many hours stuck on the side of the road I had no other choice but to buy a new battery and luckily it started up first shot. The battery terminals are very difficult to do up with a shifter and I couldn't buy a battery with the terminals around the right way so I had to pull as hard as I could to stretch the cables to fit and I had to force the battery down into its location by swinging on the battery holder clamps and I couldn't be bothered about replacing the plastic that covers the battery so that ended up in the boot
Howdy - there is this bloke who has got a mistsubishi for sale @ I think it's either a verada or a lancer @ the problem is he wrote for sale @ cheap @ should I be weary or possibly take it for a test drive? - I also think of the old saying @ if it looks too good or sounds too good to be true it certainly is
Hello Brian, These are very different cars. Any cheap car is going to have trade-offs. If the Verada is old, but hasn't done too many kms and has been regularly serviced, it should be fine for years. If it's done more that 300,000 kms, I would touch it, likewise if it has any hesitation in the gearbox, or leaks oil - all these are expensive repairs. Otherwise, these are good cars for Australian conditions and good luck with it. Regards John
Oh ok thanks / I probably won't bother as the paint job is of dark coloured which is black and would probably be terrible in the warmer summer months and plus the paint job is in bad condition as well / it seems like he probably just wants to fob of his car and it's problems onto someone else which I dare say won't be me
What is the price of this?
You could try looking on cars magazines or online sites such as gumtree Australia on the internet to compare the car to similar cars they have on there or if you are referring to a new car @ I suggest you see a car dealership or you could try a second hand car yard that's if they are honest folks
