Opel Mobile 4G Home Phone Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: OMBBMH21BAt least once a week, the phone won't receive or make calls and needs to be restarted. I've done a factory reset and still having issues. I've also been in contact with the customer support team via email. Hoping for a resolution as this phone was only purchased 5 months ago.
Hi Claire, I have found the instruction manual that come with this phone is not very accurate or helpful ... I had another issue last week and sent an email, support was very helpful in that particular case as well. The problems I had sounded a bit similar. It turned out that the phone charger was faulty because it was constantly plug in to the wall socket and on. My phone was out of warranty (more than 12 months old) and it couldn't be replaced free of charge. Have you heard back from support yet?
Please let my know. Ros
What aldi Sim card do i need for a Opel flip phone 6
Hi Merv.....it depends on what size your phone takes, the aldi sim has all 3 sizes in the one pack....so you can't go wrong. Mine cost $5 and when I activated it I got a $5 credit towards calls. Hope that helps..Ros
Purchased this phone for my MIL aged 87. Tested it at our home and it works well. Installed at MIL Aged Care Home and calls drop out after about 30 secs. Tried the factory reset, but still the same issue. Very distressing for my MIL. Not sure what to do now........
I have same problem. Found out by accident that if you flick the receiver button quickly as if you were hanging up, this enables both parties to continue with the call. Weird! Still not happy though, too hard for my aged mum to do
I had the exact same issue, all you need to turn off Automatic Answering :
Menu >> Settings >> Automatic Answering (option 8) >> Select Off
This is what worked on my phone hopefully it works for you too :)
My mums phone doesn’t ring, it just says the phone number that is calling
I had the same problem, you can turn it off thankfully so it plays a ringtone instead
Menu >> Ringtones & Volume >> Ringtone >> Read Caller Number Aloud (option 3) >> Select Off
Hi, my 89yr mothers mobile has to be turned off and on about once a week so she can receive calls. it does not ring or acknowledge missed call. we have rang from many phones to see if we can get thru. Dangerous as she lives alone. we are going to turn it off and on everyday so it doesn't happen again. any ideas or is it a faulty phone, still under warranty? cheers deb
I have the same problem with MY 89yo mother's Big Button phone! Have just replaced the SIM card. Hopefully that solves the problem. (Fortunately she lives in an aged care home.)
Hope it works for you. I changed the sim card when Telstra stopped 3G. This is the second mobile, so I am thinking it is a glitch with phone not Telstra. I was hoping OPEL would respond on this page. Finding it hard to get help.

Thankyou Michelle, I will.
Hi Deb. It appears that changing the SIM card HASN'T solved the problem. It's intermittent and VERY frustrating! I'm very nervous about buying another Opel but they seem to be the only ones making the big button phones. Cheers Alan
Hi Alan, So sorry, I know how you feel. Last time it happened, SKYPE ( we have a Konnect system where we can skype over a monitor and mum doesn't have to do anything to answer.) on my laptop wasn't working (Telstra problems), but luckily I had set it up on my mobile and I could talk her thru turning off on her mobile. OPEL's helpline reached out to me (as you can see in the above messages). I have given them the info of the phone so hopefully they will find a solution. Hopefully they will message you too. good luck.
My elderly sisters 4 G opel big button phone regularly seems to go mute. She can’t hear incoming calls even when clearly connected. If I restart the phone it temporarily fixes the issue.

Bought the big M for my nan today. Set up fine but every time I want to dial a number it makes me to add contact or the cursor jumps to another spot. Anyone have this issue, thanks
I purchased an Opel 4G mobile home phone for my Nan and the speed dial won't work. The numbers have been entered in correctly and assigned to a number in the speed dial setting. When that number is pressed for 3 seconds a message comes on the screen that says " USSD code running" that stays for about a minute then it says " connection problem or invalid MMI code" Without the speed dial option, this phone is useless to my Nan. Please help. Thank you.
My Opel big button M 4g mobile isn’t able to make or receive calls. Is this due in some way to the 3G shutting down. It doesn’t ring but a message is left that there was a call.
Hi Margaret B, It's definitely nothing to do with the 3G shutdown. All Opel Mobile 4G phones work with Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Aldi, etc perfectly well and can contact emergency services using 4G VoLTE.
Please call our customer service team on 1300 971 584. They are open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and will be able to troubleshoot to help find a solution.
Kind regards, Michelle
Hello, Michelle Can you please share what the solution was as my 84 year old Dad who lives alone is experiencing the same issue (since 3G shut down) and is very stressed not having a working phone). Phone was purchased within last few months. Thanks
Hi Judith, Your issue won't have anything to do with the 3G shutdown as all our Opel Mobile phones are 4G VoLTE compatible and the previous customer was having trouble with the Opel Mobile BigButton M - not 4G Home Phone as this thread relates to.
Please reach out to our customer service team on 1300 971 584. They are open 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and will be able to troubleshoot to help find a solution.
Kind regards, Michelle
Hi Michelle, Thank you so much for responding, your assistance is greatly appreciated.
I will contact the customer care team as soon as possible during business hours.
With many thanks in appreciation. Kind regards Judith
I bought a Big button M mobile and transferred my old sim to it as my 3Gphone is not being supported. I can make and receive calls but every time I try to send a texts I get (Send Failed). Can you please tell me what step am I missing that it fails when ending texts
There is an icon at the top left of the Opel Mobil 4G Home Phone and I have no idea what it represents. it is like a Christmas tree tilted to one side inside a circle. Can someone let me know what it means please?
When the screen times out and goes blank. Mine screen will not light back up. What am I doing wrong
Just set up his phone for my elderly mum and frustrated that the screen defaults to a blue and white instead of the Home Screen. Not sure what is wrong but in this state, it lights up the entire room when it's dark. What am I missing?
Same issue as some others have already asked - the phone only rings 3 times, there’s no way my 86 yr old mum can get to it in time. I’ve searched all the phone settings & the manual, can’t find any option to extend it, so it’s not fit for purpose :(
Hi Superal, This is controlled and set by your service provider. There is no way to control it by the hardware. It would be best to contact your service provider or by googling how to extend it as its different steps for each provider.
For example for Telstra users you would follow this step: Type the following: * * 6 1 * 1 0 1 * * [15, 20, 25 or 30] #
I hope this helps.
Kind regards, Michelle
Wow, amazing service, thanks so much Michelle! :)
I purchased an opel 4G Mobile Home Phone for my elderly Uncle who is in Aged Care. The phone was working well until today. When I activate the phone it displays the message "Unfortunately, GridHome has stopped working". What actions do I need to take to ensure that the message doesn't come on the screen again.
Hi BrianC, The best thing you could do would be perform a factory reset and update to the latest the software. The instructions for factory resetting are on page 53 in the instruction manual which can found here: external link
If you have any further questions please call us on 1300 971 584 or email us on help@opelmobile.com.au.
Kind regards, Michelle
Hi Michelle, Thank you for the feedback. I have now fixed the phone. Thanking you ever so much. Regards Brian
Opel 4g mobile homephone. After I switch off the phone I cannot turn the phone on no matter how long I press the Back button. I took the battery off and put it back again, it still does not work. I repeated the procedure a few times and it worked. This process does not always work. I am sure it was not the battery connection. Is this power recycling, whatever that means. But now I will never switch off the phone for fear of not able to turn it back on again. Surely, there is a better solution. Can an Opel representative solve that?
Opel 4G mobile is dropping out call during conversations. Server is Telstra
Where is the power button on the Opel 4g mobile home phone?
Like the concept of this phone, Trying to use the wireless hot spot for internet access for other devices. Sometimes the hotspot locks up and despite the hotspot icon visible on the phone display the devices connect wirelessly but there is no internet access. The only way to fix is to turn the hotspot off and on or reboot phone and restart wireless hotspot. (12 or 17 button presses from default screen) Is there an easier way to turn hotspot off and on? I am testing this phone with a post paid telstra sim and over 3 days have had the hotspot lock up x2. With a router its just a matter of turning off/on. With other android devices macrodroid app can be loaded and a reboot would allow the hotspot to come backup. Is there a work around for this phone either improve the reliability of the hot spot or switching hootspot off/on? I just cant see my 80 year old parents able to manage a 12 step menu selection to do this to get the internet going again. Thanks for help.
Can it be used with any SIM card provider… want to take it overseas for my mother
Hello Ashika, I truly won’t waste money on buying one at all. They’re not very good.
