Pestrol Outdoor Exterminator: Mosquito Trap Questions & Answers
VerifiedI just inherited a unit and the light works but the fan doesn't turn on. Is there anything I need to do or is it just faulty? Much appreciated
Hey Sam, We provide a 12-month warranty with our machines, if you have the original order number or invoice for the unit, could you please contact us at info@pestrol.com.au and one of the team can assist with your inquiry.
If your unit is over 12-months old, we do have motors for the Exterminator available for purchase on our website!
I’ve purchased a new globe for the Pestrol Mosquito trap but it still doesn’t go on. There is a slight glow near the connection but that’s all. The fan is still working. Not sure what to do?
Hey Warren, Sad to hear you're having an issue with the machine, but our customers service team is here to assist. If you can take a photo of what that globe is currently doing, please send as an email to info@pestrol.com.au and one of the team will be able to assist you.
I haven't used our trap since last summer. Have just replaced the bulb and while it turned on for a short time at first, I noticed it had switched off. Now when I turn it on, I see the bulb light up and hear the fan but only for 2 seconds before it turns itself off. Any ideas? Thanks
Hey Rachel, It's a bit odd for it to operate like that, have you tried using the machine in a different power outlet to confirm the issue?
can terminator or exterminator be used ever in large garage set up for exercise/gym set up or ill advised and why? What is best for large 2 car indoor garage
Hi, Does your external dominator work for midges as well as mosquitos? We have moved on to a property, about 1 acre, ponds, creeks and marshland out the back. Attacked by both bugs every time you go outside, even during the winter and windy conditions. Tough little buggers. I did the barrier spray, with zero effect, so concerned the dominator might also be defeated against our population. Also wondering if the Natural Mosi-Guard works for Midges too? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks, Monica
Just purchased a Pestrol Dominator a few weeks ago. It ran fine for awhile, caught lots of moths but not so sure of it's effectiveness on mossies. Although I think there were fewer mossies around. Last week the unit stopped working, that is the fan does not turn and the light blinks repeatedly. Any thoughts or suggestions as how best to proceed with this. Mike in Beechworth.
Hey Mike, Thanks for reaching out to us! The Dominator using a light-based attraction method can cause some by-catch with Moths as they tend to be the easiest thing to catch with light, even a standard house light they'll be drawn to.
Mozzies will still be going through the machine, but they can be a bit hard to spot after they dehydrate in the trap chamber, the insect is already small, and they'll get a lot smaller when they dry up.
The power supply issue is a little strange, if you wouldn't mind, could you take a short video of the issue and send that through to us at info@pestrol.com.au so we can have our technical team have a look at it and see if they can't diagnose the issue?
We look forward to hearing from you!
Will send a video asap. Mike.
I have sent a video via my phone. Please let me know if and when it arrives. If the post fails to arrive I will try to send via my computer. Regards, Mike.
Hey Mike, Haven't received the video at this stage, but I can see your ticket in our shared inbox. I've taken over the ticket there, if you could please reply back to the last email you received with the video, that way I can get eyes on it and try and confirm the issue.
Cheers
Hi Mike. Our unit has done exactly the same thing - were you able to resolve?
No, I've given up.
Hey Mike, Have you had further trouble with the unit? In my last correspondence with you on the 7th of Feb 2023 you told me that the parts I had sent you got the unit back up and running. I can't see any further emails or calls from you.
Warrus, from Mike's case, it was the power supply, and the globe that needed to be replaced, if you reach out to us at info@pestrol.com.au we should be able to assist.
How long does it take for insects to dehydrate? i dont want to empty if they are not dead yet :)
I'm finding a good 2 days.
Hi Denise,
Thank you for your inquiry. Normally it takes 2-4 hours.
Thank you Kind regards,
Hi, when I turn off the machine, the vents do not close and the trapped mossies just fly out of the trap. How you rectify this?

Does this device attract mozzies in daylight?
Hi Gary, Thank you for your Inquiry. It still can as the traps are coated with TiO2 coating which attracts mosquitos but it is still more effective at night. If you need more information please give us a call on 1800 33 88 88. Thank you Kind regards,

Does the pestrol mosquito trap need to be turned on to charge
Hey Maureen,
This item is for our Exterminator which uses a standard Australian Plug, it's not rechargeable, would you be referring to another trap in our range?
If so, please let me know the model so I can better answer your question.
Cheers,
My fan is not working on my terminator. Is there anything I can check.
Hey Kathryn, Before going through the following, please ensure that your unit is switched off and unplugged. First you want to check for any debris that might be blocking the fan from spinning, if there is no visible debris, try and move the fan with your finger to see if it will still spin.
If it is still spinning and there is no debris or obstructions, it might be that the fan assembly would need to be replaced.
Please send us an email if that's the case, and our customer service team will guide you through the issue to get that unit back up and running!
Cheers
Hi can you tell me the beast height to have the unit off ground thanks
Hi Anthony, Thank you for your inquiry. The mosquito trap can be placed, fixed, or hung, on any external object, wall, veranda post, tree, or ceiling in the area to be protected. It’s most efficient when greater than 1M of the ground. You can hang it by the power cords or the other line.
Hope this helps.
Thank you Kind regards,
Hi there! Can I ask whether this works for sandflies? Having big issues with these guys...
Hi Michelle, sorry, I don't get sandflies. The lamp attracts attracts moths and many other lovely insects that are not harmful to humans and are essential to the health of plants and the environment. Try googling. I found: external link .
Thank you so much for your help!
Hi there, my pestrol mossie terminator stopped working. I've had it for nearly a year. Do I need to get a replacement motor/fan and/or bulb? Thank you
Did the fan stop working or the light or both?
both - it won't turn on at all?
Hey Camilla, this could be for a couple of reasons, most commonly it's just the power pack that has failed, which is an easy enough fix, the other could be the ballast in the machine has gone, which is also easily replaceable.
Could you please send through the details to info@pestrol.com.au with your order number so one of our technical team can discuss that further with you?
G'day petrol. I'm trying to figure out the difference between your models, I think I'm looking at either the exterminator or terminator. What is the main differences besides the ability to use attractants? Are the fan sizes different? Different noise levels? Any other differences?
Hey Daniel, I can certainly help you out with that! The Exterminator will cover a smaller area than the terminator, covering roughly about 120m squared, it's perfect for your typical suburban backyard.
Terminator is a slightly larger unit and can cover about half an acre. That unit comes with one of our optional booster attractants to help up the catchment rates of Mosquitoes. It also has the option of connecting a C02 canister to the device, however, those are pretty tricky to find.
Both of them are pretty quiet, but if I had to choose between the two, the Exterminator will offer a more quiet operation. It's about the same level of noise as a computer fan.
If you're only looking to cover a smaller area, I would always recommend the Exterminator as it's an easier trap to work with and great value for money.
Cheers,
We have an annoying amount of flies, mostly due to keeping chickens. Will this be of much help?
Hi Yvonne, Thanks for getting in touch with us. The Exterminator is mainly used for moths, midges and mozzies as well. It may not be effective for flies as the UV light is different. However, we do have fly zappers and traps that attract flies in particular which can be found on our website under the category, FLIES, and you will be able to browse various fly zappers, fly traps that use smell to attract and trap flies and also deterrents to repel them away and kill them such as dispensers and spray cans.
Hope that helps.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Pestrol.
Hi. I have silly question, but can’t find reference in the product information. How is the outdoor unit powered? Does it need mains electricity? Do you have an option if I don’t have access to a power point outside?
It needs 240 volts to operate. Simplest solution, buy a extension lead from Bunnings. The solutions the become more complex, if your really keen buy a deep cycle 12 volt battery and a small 12v to 240v inverter from Jaycar. You would need to charge the battery regularly. This can be achieved with either a 240v battery charger or a more permanent solution is a solar panel with a regulator.
Hi Louise! Thanks for your question. The outdoor unit is powered through a power cord that you will need to insert within a powerpoint. If no access to a powerpoint, then you can try using our other mosquito products, however, all our traps do require a power cord to operate.
@Gavan Thanks for your response as we appreciate your input as well.
Based on the comments above sounds like in addition to getting mosquitos it also gets a lot of moths. I really want to reduce mosquitos but not happy about that coming at the expense of the moths. Is there a alternative product that has less impact on other animals?
Yes it does get a lot of moths. I don't know of a deterrent that discriminates and I guess its not perfect but the mosquitoes are bad so the moths are collateral damage.
ALL, and I repeat ALL mosquito traps/killers trap and kill some moths, its unfortunately a by product of reducing your mosquito numbers. If you love your moths then you will have to learn to love your mosquitos as well :-)
