Philips PowerLife Steam Questions & Answers
VerifiedMy iron turned itself off due to the auto off feature. Fine. But how do I turn it back on?
I usually just move the iron and/or turn it off at the socket and wait for it to warm up again.
Turn it off at the wall. Wait a minute. Turn it back on at the wall.
My Philips PowerLite lever will not go to calcium clean just springs back. Also won’t go to the other side for extra steam.
That’s right. You have to hold it there whilst cleaning it. The high steam setting does spring back. It’s normal.
Thank you
Tried the calcium clean and nothing happens.
Hi Elaine. Thank you for sharing your question with us. You can find the step-by-step guide to use the calc-clean function in the product manual of the PowerLife Iron. You can find it in the link below:

I have an identical issue to many people here, in that my iron switches itself off almost immediately, after the light flickers twice. Rather than just advising us to call for support, could someone from Philips please tell us whether this is a recognised issue with the Powerlife and is there a way to fix it. Thank you.
Hi Kel, thank you for flagging the issue with us. Have you checked if your iron is switing off because of the Auto Off function? If you leave the iron with the soleplate touching the iron board for more than 30sec it will automatically turn off in order to avoid burning the fabric. If you leave it vertically, with the sole plate facing out, then the Auto Off will be after 8 minutes. For safety reason, there isn't a way to switch off this function. We hope this answer your question. We'd like to refer you to our Consumer Care team for more information. You can reach them directly on 1300 363 391 (Australia), or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand) from Mondays to Saturdays: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST. They'll be happy to help.
Kind regards, The Philips Australia Team
Thank you for getting back to me. I agree that it seems to be the Auto Off function that is switching off the iron because the Auto Off light flashes but that happens about two seconds after I switch it on, when it is sitting vertically - not eight minutes.
Hi Kel, thank you for explaining. Have you performed the descaling as well? We advise to descale every two weeks for the best performance. Fill the water tank and heat the iron to ‘MAX’ temperature. Then, unplug and hold the iron over your sink. Push and hold the slide button to calc-clean while you shake the iron to flush out the water. If the issue persist, we'd like to refer you to our Consumer Care team. You can reach them directly on 1300 363 391 (Australia), or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand) from Mondays to Saturdays: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST. They'll be happy to help.
Kind regards, The Philips Australia Team
Hi, no I haven't descaled. I can't heat the iron to MAX temperature because it switches itself off after two seconds. I'll call the Consumer Care team.
Hi kel, I am having the same issue. We’re u able to fix it ?
Hi, my iron is not working. When I seitch it on, it immediately turns to auto off
Hi Farasat, thank you for reaching out to us. Sorry to hear that your iron is not function as it should. The Philips PowerLife Steam generator is equipped with an automatic switch-off function that is activated if the iron is not used for 5 to 10 minutes. Also, keep in mind that if you leave your iron horizontally for more than 30 seconds or vertically (on the back) for longer than 8 minutes, it will switch off automatically for safety reasons. If neither of these options is applicable to your case, there might be a different problem, in which case our product team will be happy to assess you. You can reach them directly at 1300 998 851 (Australia) or 0800 836 761 (New Zealand), from Mondays to Saturdays: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST. Feel free to get back to us to update us on the matter, or if you have any other questions you would like us to answer.

I'm having this problem too. Very annoying :(
Did you get any idea what to do in such situations
Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We're sorry for the inconvenience that this may have caused. If your Philips iron or your garment steamer causes a power failure, find out below what you can do to solve the issue.
- The iron/steamer is not properly plugged in Check if the connection to the household power is loose or not properly plugged in.
- The power cord is damaged Check the power cord for visible signs of damage.
- Too many appliances are plugged into the same socket The failure could be caused by over current in your mains power. Unplug the other appliances and switch on the iron or steamer again.
- None of the above solved it If you checked all of the above and your iron or steamer still produces a power failure, then contact us.
We'd like to refer you to our product team for more information. You can reach them directly on 1300 363 391 (Australia), or 0800 658 224 (New Zealand) from Mondays to Saturdays: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm EST. They'll be happy to help. Kind regards, The Philips Australia Team
I have a Philips GC2997 iron. It has worked perfectly for about a year.
Today it switched itself off and will not switch back on.
When I plug it in, the red light flashes twice and then the iron does nothing.
Can this be fixed?
Hi Jim, Thank you for raising this concern to us. If you see that the red calc lights are already flashing, it is high time to clean and de-calc your steam generator. You may see the detailed procedure of this here: https://www.philips.com.au/c-e/ho/ironing/descale-steam-generators?locale_code=en_us&remember_locale=en_au&_ga=2.130636934.841225727.1596723788-908297860.1588732995

Is this iron has a self cleaning function?
yes
Besides the usual calc-clean functionality, the PowerLife Steam has a built-in calc-clean slider which allows for easy removal of any built-up scale from your iron. Hello, I have a GC2990 model, a couple of questions:
1) it is near impossible to see the water level due to the dark casing. Am I blind? Is a light I can’t see?
2) why does it stick to everything? No matter or fabric.
3) why do the steam holes not go all the way to the tip of the sole plate?
I bought this because I wanted to be able to adjust the temperature setting myself so disappointed about these other things.
Listen man i did the reviews for money idk anything about an iron i cant afford one bro

Hi,
We have been very happy with our Philips GC2960 iron until today.
Suddenly, the iron does not heat at all and the Auto Lite flicker only occasionally when placed on the soleplate for > 30 seconds. It does nothing in the upright position.
Assuming the problem it is smoothing to do with the orientation timer is there any way to check this and or fix it.

I have only had this iron for a few weeks and the plate has black marks which I am unable to remove !! Can anyone help me ?? This problem will only get worst !! I have never had an iron that I could not clean what is it made of ??? Never buy a Philips again a waste of money. STEAMGLIDE POWERLIFE PLUS !
Sorry. I could never completely get rid of it. I used a baking soda paste which helped a little but on the down side blocked some holes for a while. It's just not a good product. I persevered with it and ended up with burns on clothes. I gave up and bought a different brand.
Hello Sue, Thank you for this message. We’re sorry to hear the difficulty that you’ve been experiencing with your iron. We’d like to help you through the phone. If you reside in Australia, please call us on 1300 363 391. Our number for New Zealand is 0800 658 224.

Actually rethinking. You should return it to seller or call the company for a refund as you have only had it such a short time.
Hi i have the power life iron with auto turn off but when i turn it on its going on auto turn off so it turns straight off and wont work how do i fix this?
Hi Sally, thank you for your question. The safety auto off function works after 30 seconds when the iron is placed on the soleplate and after 8 minutes of no use when it is placed on the back. Does your iron immediately turn off or after a while? This way we will know whether it’s a product error or not. Another question I have for you is whether you’ve had the iron for a while and already descaled it? Hope to hear from you soon.
Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team.
I'm also having the problem of scorching on the sole plate. The setting wasn't too high as I was ironing 100% cotton bags and I had the heat set to just below the Cotton/Linen setting. I don't want to use abrasives and destroy the sole plate but nothing is removing the scorches. Can you tell me how to remove the marks please?
Hello,
We're sorry to hear you're experiencing some issues with our iron. Would you be able to reach out to us via 1300 363 391 so we can see what we can do to help?

When the iron is left on inadvertently- does the auto/off function mean just that the temperature is reduced or that it actually ceases heating, ie would it be safe all day?
Hi Marie,
If you give us a call on 1300 363 391 we'd be happy to take you through this issue.
Kind regards,
The Philips Australia Team
How do you clean it because i lost the booklet on how to clean it?
Hi Youngghandssome, Most of our user manuals are now stored online so, if you have access to a computer, then please go the the website external link . Then navigate to the "Support" page, type in your product number (if you have a Powerlife iron then this will probably start with GC2xxx) and you should see the "User Manual" available to download. You can then print this off if you wish.
However, to give you the instructions specifically for cleaning out the calc...
Fill the water tank and heat the iron to ‘MAX’ temperature. Then, unplug the iron and hold the iron over your sink. Push and hold the slide button to calc-clean while you shake the iron to flush out the water. It is recommended to do this every two weeks.
I hope this helps.
Kind Regards,
The Philips Australia Team
