Is the throttle forward or back in the start position
If it is a 375 engine mounted front to back with the piston head at the front, then it is throttle back in the start position. Else, that will depend on the way the engine is mounted. To tell if the piston head is at the front, check the spark plug, it should be at the front of the engine.

My 375 Easy Start Rover mower is difficult to start. I have new fuel and new spark plug, still will not start. Carburettor seems ok, primer works, and can smell petrol on spark plug when it is removed. I suspect coil, as only very weak spark witnessed from coil to chassis. Should I replace the coil? cruiserdog2
This means that the spark plug is not sparking. Check your ignition coil. That would more than likely be the problem. Remove the spark plug. Plug it back into the coil and let it rest against the piston head. It needs to touch at least the piston head to complete the circuit. Then pull the starter cable until the rotor turns and see if there is a spark on the spark plug. If not, the coil is gone.

What type of surging is that? I just finished rebuilding my rover last weekend as I really missed it and it now works like a charm. The Con Rod was broken and I pulled the engine apart and replaced the conrod and machined the head piston, valves and replaced the head gasket, the block gasket, the carburettor, the exhaust with brand new as they are cheap. I am now re-building a second one I picked up on the side of the road. So to my question what do you mean by surging?

Depending on age and condition a good second hand price would be about $150 to $200. A older mower or one that has not been well maintained would be worth less.

if a 4 stroke then unleaded, if a 2 stroke (not this model) then a fuel oil mix in the right ratio
Normal petrol unleaded 91 will do. Has worked for me for 21 years..
Unleaded 91 RON petrol.
Front of chassis digs in when cutting long grass. front end needs to be raised about 6mm to make it level with the back. Raising it up a notch ,using the lever, solves the "digging in" problem but then the cut grass is too long%^&*(). The front needs raising on it's own. Is there an adjustment to do this??
