what setting do you put the machine on to froth milk

This is our third Sunbeam Crema coffee machine but this last one was only purchased on 6/12/18. We have cleaned it etc but the steam wand spits out so much water we can’t froth the watery milk mix. So disappointed as our other Sunbeam coffee machine lasted longer. Regards Kathy S.A.

Did you try cleaning with a vinegar solution to clean out any hard water deposits which might hold the solenoid open causing the leak? If you use only filtered water with them they tend to last longer.

Hi, my machine won't turn off. Last time I turned it off it started again and I had to turn it off at the socket to stop it. Now it's stuck on. Can this be fixed.

Hi Karen. I was gifted a used one of these units (secondhand) a few months ago and it was working perfectly until recently. Like you, one day I couldn't switch it off via the front panel switch, so I had to switch it off at the wall. As I have been a TV repair technician in my past, I decided to see if there was anything I could do to repair it myself. To cut a long story short, I found that the button adjacent to power button was jammed in. This was not immediately evident as these two buttons don't move in/out very much. Anyhow, I managed to restore full function by gently levering out the jammed steamer button, which until after I'd pulled it apart, could have been done from the front of the unit without having pulled it apart. Also I noted that if the steamer button is jammed in when the unit is already on, it won't switch off and if it was off with the button jammed, it won't switch back on.

I hope this helps with you unit. Regards Peter

Hey guys, as soon as I turn the knob to the thermometer setting, the machine starts to overheat and starts making a hissing noise. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problems as others asking questions here. Over the last couple of weeks had water leaking out under the top of the unit, super hot to touch when trying to turn the dial between functions, and today won't turn on at the power button. Are there any "fixes" or is it scrap metal? Not sure of purchase date - more than 12 months, but probably less than 2 years.

Hi where can I buy a water pump for model em 4820 coffee machine ?

Regardless of the coffee grind or how hard I tamp it the puck comes out as a watery slush. I’ve read that this may be because it doesn’t have a three-way brew valve. Is this correct? Or what am I doing wrong?

Displeased

i believe it is because it uses a pressure basket, i.e. the basket has two walls which regulates the pressure

My Sunbeam coffee cream EM4820 is about 2 years old and has recently started dripping water out the brewing head while steaming milk and also is retaining a lot of water in the filter cup after brewing coffee. Neither of these problems existed previously. I have descaled as per instructions, cleaned hole in base of filter and cleaned & removed and cleaned shower screen.

Mine has just started doing the same thing!! Reading these reviews it looks like we will have to throw it out.

I have the Cafe Creme machine which has recently started leaking through the base when I make a coffee. I usually make four cups and day and never use the milk frother. I purchased the machine in November 2016 but am hoping there is the possibility to repair. I live in Victoria.

Hi Lizzy,

Unfortunately we do not repair this machines. they come with a 12 month warranty replacement only.

As nearly all the machine complaints are the same as was mine, why bother asking me for a review. I would not buy another Cafe Crema having had 2 break down.

Lizzy

Thanks for the response but in this day and and the concern with landfill, I think Sunbeam should make their coffee machines repairable with new seals or whatever is required. I've had two so far and although they make great coffee its inevitable that within one to three years that annoying puddle appears but other than that, I've had no other issue.

i have the same problem and agree with the comments here. this is my second sunbeam machine that has broken down. its a big piece of rubbish to throw out every two years. I won't be buying another one.

I've had the same experience Lizzy. On to my second machine and water pours from the base. No good enough Sunbeam to offer no solution other than to ditch the machine to landfill

The best procedure for steaming the milk till nice thick and creamy with this machine??

Margaret Shaw
Margaret Shaw

Best method is to buy another brand of machine. These seem to have loads of problems & I've had 2 & will not buy another.

Sunbeam

Hi Pamela, If you search Sunbeam coffee on Youtube, you will find lots of videos on how to froth/texturize milk. The best method is to position steam wand at 12 (lip of the jug) and 3 on the jug (a 45 degree angle). You should have the milk swirling in a circular motion clockwise. By leaving the tip half in and half out of the milk you will be incorporate steam and air which adds volume/froth to the milk. Once you have the required amount of froth, completely submerge the tip of the wand into the milk to continue heating the milk to the optimum temperature of 65 degrees.

Much like the last review from Margaret Shaw, my machine has just done the exact same thing. I noticed steam coming from inside the machine when heating up the milk. I could not touch the machine at all it was so hot. Then yesterday it was in the off position and it just started to pump out the water until it had run out. Lucky my wife was home she was able to turn it off at the power. Could you please advise me on where in Adelaide I can get it fixed.

My Café Crema II will no longer steam milk, as the hot water/steam button is stuck on hot water when the dial is turned to steam. Don't want to ditch the machine for this small error - any suggestions? Wendy

Hi there, I have a Sunbeam Crema II (EM4820), which I love using. Recently, the water in the espresso setting runs cold from the brew head. To clarify, it runs cold even after the power light is constantly illuminated (ie. not flashing) which should indicate that the water would be hot. The only way I can get the espresso setting to run hot is to first preheat the steamer and THEN run the espresso setting. Is this a known fault and is there any way to fix it?

Thanks

Hi Peanut. It sounds like there may be a crack in one of the internal pipes that is allowing some steam to escape internally. Unfortunately we do not repair this particular machine due to it's price point.
