Sunbeam Cafe Espresso EM3600 Questions & Answers
VerifiedJust got gifted a sunbeam cafe espresso || and the steam wand doesn’t seem to be working, what could be the issue?
Hi, it can only be used after the unit has warmed up, and it starts off a little slow. Could that be it? I let the steam get going strongly first, then turn it down, insert in the milk and turn it back up.
Or, if nothing comes out at all, it is blocked. Stand it in a glass of warm water for a couple of hours and then poke with the little tool, if you have it, or a needle or something
Thankyou Kristen ! Yes turns out the wand just needed some time to heat up , have a beautiful day : )
Then start saving for a Breville Barista Express, and when you get it, set the internal burr to 4 ;)
Hey there I have this machine and need to buy a new group head for it, does anyone know the dimensions? I just bought a 3 prong 51mm group head online to replace my old one but it does not fit :( Really appreciate any help with this!
I need a operation manual if possible

Is the group head the same as the brew head? Our EM 3600 is leaking. We have 2 machines so interchanged the brew head from the good one to the leaky one Which sadly still leaks. Is there anything else it could be please? Mary
Hi, we’ve had this machine for 6 or more years and just recently the two seals don’t work anymore due to being worn out, so was wondering where we or how we could get replacement seals and get it fixed. We reside in the Newcastle area. Any advice would be appreciated.
I replaced my seals and group head by ordering the parts online. It still leaked though. I think a thorough cleaning of the baskets also needs doing using a proprietary cleaning tablet, or they get a bit blocked. Recently I abandoned the Sunbeam, really reluctantly; it was such a faithful machine and I had grown to accept her faults, leaks and all. I bought a Breville for about $300 and am AMAZED by the quality. Every component reeks quality. You will not look back ;)
My em3600 was leaking when delivering coffee. I have replaced the seal first, still leaking, and the group head but it still leaks when pumping coffee. Seems like it is not fitting snug enough onto the seal.
You could check that there are no coffee grounds caught inside the rim, stopping the head from fitting properly
I have the same issue with mine, and tried the same two fixes. I carefully wipe all the coffee grounds away from the edges as well. Would be interested to find the solution, as it’s otherwise a great little machine.
I have lost my group head. Can you tell me the size please?
You will need the specific handle for this machine. Go to external link to locate a service agent or you can Google the model number online to find an online retailer.
Cheers.
Thank you.
So I'm trying to patch-up my EM3600. Its been a great machine. It suddenly failed. As soon as I turn on the power, instead of the normal heating up routine, the pump is making a chugging sound aproximately every second. I am going through the descaling process, also have ordered a replacement pump. But I stumbled across this site and was hoping you might be able to give some advice before I start pulling things apart.
I wonder if it is losing pressure? Sounds like the pump is trying to replace what is leaking out. It might be worth popping out the switches and checking if they have deteriorated to the point of shorting. The final thing I did to mine was to replace a rusty switch...it got me almost another year out of the old girl.
I ended up going 'all in' and replacing mine with a DeLonghi Magnifica (spread over two birthdays!) I spent a lot of time researching prior to buying, and have been very happy with it.
Hi Tony M, The EM3600 has been obsolete for some time and in general may cost more than it is worth to repair. There are not a lot of parts that are still available. When they were a current item they were not repaired. It is best to speak to a technician. Can you please advise your post code and I can locate an agent for you to call. Kind Regards, Sunbeam
Hi, Thanks for replying. So my postcode is 4510, Caboolture, QLD. You're probably right that its had its time and not worth spending money for repairs. I have already ordered a replacement pump, If you have any old schematics on the best way to replace it, I'd appreciate it. thanks, have a great day
Hi TonyM, Thanks for your reply! Only our service agents have access to our service manuals. Your location is in between two of our agents. Sunshine Coast Coffee Machines - in Buderim Phone: 0413 714 715 and Espresso Doctor in Fortitude Valley Phone: 07 3216 1111. Although both seem a distance away, both agents are highly regarded and have been repairing Sunbeam Coffee machines for a long time. Best to give them a call and see what is the better option for you. Kind Regards, Sunbeam
Hi my coffee machine beeps when i turn it on then the red light stays on Help please
Hi Josephine m. Thank you for your query. Please call us on 1300 881 861 for further advice.
We can't get water to flow through the machine. The pump sounds like it is working but no water coming through into the machine and cup. It does it's pumping sound but nothing coming through. It has never been used before. Can you please help?
Try just running hot water through the steam nozzle - takes less pressure than steam. If it's new, it may just need the internal boiler filling up
I have had my EM3600 for 8 years now. It has never missed a beat and makes coffee better than many cafes. Recently it started leaking around the group head while pulling a shot so I checked the group head seal and replaced that in case it was losing its “springiness”. However, it still leaks. Could the plastic group head be cracked? I can’t see any damage without pulling it apart. Also, the area behind the shower screen looked to me, while I had the group head pulled apart to replace the seal, to be kind of bubbles or blistered, I guess from heat over the years. What do you recommend replacing? The group head? Or the entire machine? If I could just replace a part that would be great, I feel like going for some kind of longevity record here!...
Hi Kristen, The plastic group head can have micro fractures causing it to leaking when under heat pressure.Yes replace the group head. Have had mine for over 8 years now and still going strong. I hope this helps.
Thank you, Customer. I will try that. Aren’t these machines little troupers! Even leaking it makes better coffee than my local café (sorry local café...)
I feel your pain! I want mine to last forever too. The machine works fine for me every time...but my wife tells another story.
I just don't want to have to choose between them.
My sunbeam em3600 leaks water straight into the tray when heating until I adjust the dial to the left or right. It will still make coffee, but it's not hot. Is this fixable?
Sounds like a leaky seal of some sort. As you will be putting water under pressure + heat, I'm not sure it's worth the risk. Unless you can D.I.Y, it will probably cost more to fix than to replace - and my local Sunbeam agent can't get parts anymore.
Does anyone know how much coffee grinds are required to make a nice tasting coffee? Mine always tastes weak because I've lost the measuring spoon/tamp :( My machines an em3600. Thanks.
Try one heaped teaspoon for each 'coffee scoop' - but make sure you tamp it down with something. Weak coffee can also be the result of too coarse a grind - so check that too.
Hi my EM3600 is really pumping the water through the coffee fast... And not producing and cream at all.... I've tried several times to Tamper firmer or lighter but doesn't seem to make a difference?
Any tips ?
Thanks
The first thing that comes to mind is that maybe your coffee isn't ground finely enough. Also check the seal where the handpiece meets the machine.
Thanks will check out the seal...
Hi can you tell me how to descale my machine please its a Em3600 thanks
Hi Carol I have used the descale powder found in most supermarkets. Although it's not recommended for the steam wand, it has kept my machine going well. It's added to the water reservoir, and you run a couple of regular cycles until it's all used up. I recommend running another reservoir of water through before making a coffee - the taste can linger.
My machine is leaking a bit when I'm pouring shots, from the little hole at the bottom that the drip tray clicks into. This question has been asked before, but does anyone have an answer as to why it's leaking and how I can lessen the leakage (if it's necessary leaking) or how to fix it?
At a guess (really, I am guessing) maybe you could clean your handpiece - if it's hard to push the water through, then maybe the drip is the overflow (??)
I was wondering if you could still get spare parts for the EM3600? I was wanting another insert for the coffee holder.
I went to an Appliance Parts place in Hobart and they told me the part I wanted was discontinued. However inserts seem rather generic - I've used an insert from my old Delonghi in this Sunbeam.
Hi Grace S, Spare parts are still available for the EM3600. The part numbers for the filter baskets are as followed. You can also use the link on the Sunbeam website to find your nearest agent, which is where you can order the parts from.
1 CUP FILTER- EM58103

I have had excellent service from my EM3600 for six years . Last week my Group Head rubber seal perished.
I enquired from my Gosford agent who informed me that this is no longer available. Is this correct?
Luke Bohun
