Hi there, I was given the EM5600 and it works, but the steam/coffee knob is really really stiff, and very difficult to turn off after steaming the milk. I am right handed, so would appreciate your advice. Thank you, Wendy.

Wendy,

Mine is stiff as well. Not too stiff to use though

Wendy R

I'm wondering if there's a way to loosen it off, as it's too messy to use safely and easily in its current condition.

I also need to replace the steam knob. Where can you get them ?

Robyn

Hi Curly... Not sure where you are based. I get everything through Kings Radio in Hamilton. They are a sunbeam service and distributer centre. Hope that helps Cheers

Thanks Robyn. I am in Sydney. I have checked online and it looks like you can't get this part anymore and i can't really find a good substitute. I will try calling Sunbeam if they don't reply here. Such a shame to throw out a working coffee machine all because of what looks like a $2 plastic knob.

Hi, I am using my Sunbeam 5600 almost twice a week for brewing 2 cups of coffee over the weekends. Recently, I have started using it once everyday. However, now I am facing problem atleast 2/3 times a week. While the espresso is being poured, all of a sudden water/steam starts coming out from where the filter handle is placed onto group head. Can you tell me what the problem is? If I try to remove and place the filter handle all over again, it works sometimes. Is it the problem with Brew Head seal or the group head? Do I need to replace the brew head seal ring? Please suggest. Thanks

Robyn
Robyn

Hi mdh I having the same problem at the moment. Pretty sure it's not the group head, as I had mine checked a while ago. I think its if I overfill the brew head, sometimes its only slightly. Ive got a EM7000 coffee machine now, it seems to be more temperamental than my last machine. I use ny nachine everyday for at least 2-3 cups per day. Mine is getting close to needing a replacement seal I think. Try to put a little less coffee in the brew head, needs to be just the tines bit. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. With the same thinking I have tried to reduce the coffee quantity but with no improvement...So If it us not group head...then it might be Seal Rings... Let's see! Thank you!

Hi, the coffee head (that holds the coffee grounds) has started vibrating off when brewing coffee. Does anyone have a solution please?

Robyn

I never had that happen before, sorry. Have you made sure the group head is on tight, is all I can think of

Sezib
Sezib

It felt tight enough, just didn'twant to over tighten. Hubby had a go later (he might be a bit tougher than me) and it was ok. Won't be such a wussy next time?! Thankyou for your reply.

Sunbeam EM5600 machine - used for several years but not used daily until in recent weeks. It was working fine a few days ago now it won't pump water through, although I can hear a buzzing noise but not the normal pumping sound. This means I'm unable to try descaling with vinegar solution as nothing is being pumped through the machine. What do you suggest? Thanks Kath H

Hi Andy Sorry for late reply. The jut out side goes up into the head piece. The indented side faces down. Hope this helps

Many thanks this was a huge help as after I fitted new silicone ring it leaked. I was confused and couldn’t eliminate leaks. The info you provided let me install correctly and perservere. Mine is ten years old and normally doesn’t miss a beat! $200 back in the day. Fingers crossed for another!

We have had our Sunbeam EM5600 for a very happy, 11 years. The machine has worked without fault until it blew the brew head seal. I managed to source a new seal (VPN: EM48119) and it lasted three months before tearing today.

I contacted the supplier and he mentioned that the brew cup will also need replacing because it will have coffee oil residue. However, we regularly clean our machine with a vinegar solution and let to soak. The brew cups have been in the dishwasher a couple of times as well. After making our morning coffee (two cups a day), we flush with a fresh water 'brew' before turning the machine off at the power point. The supplier says this is not enough as vinegar only descales not 'degreases'.

Am I being led up the garden path?

Sunbeam
Sunbeam   DM

Hi, I believe vinegar is suitable and if you have been doing this and it's working keep it up. I would however recommend our Sunbeam Cleaning tablets (EM0020). These go in the Group Handle and are designed to clean all the oils above the handle and flush it all out, resulting in a fresh cup of coffee. These are available through Service Agents and online spare part retailers or try your local Electrical retailer.

Frequently the whole machine shuts down (with blank screen) part way through the process - this machine is several years old and used every day. Eventually the screen comes on and it can be used again. Graeme

hi Graeme, W Thank you for contacting Sunbeam. glad to hear you have had this for many years. They make great coffee! So sorry to advise but this model and the parts have been discontinued for some time therefore non repairable.

Thanks for your answer - I realized this machine was not supported but I can usually get them going myself and thought someone who remembers this model might know what causes this problem. I guess I will have to work it out myself, Cheers, Graeme

Hi. My coffee machine doesn't pump water from the water holder. Is the pump failed or could there be a blockage?

Sunbeam

Hi David, thanks for the question, maybe try a cleaning and descaling cycle through the machine.

What sort of coffee is best for this model?

Hi I've always used Gravity - Expresso Love coffee. Have tried others but the flavour not as good, in my mind.

Comes down to personal taste. Keep trying till you find one you like.

Hi Chris, You need to be using coffee that is suitable for Espresso Machines. Shop around and experiment until you find the one you prefer. Most Coffee shops are happy to grind the beans fresh for you and purchasing a small bag is the best way to go until you find your fave!

Our EM5600 was working fine this morning then my son cleaned it and now the pump turns on continuously once plugged in and the water flows straight through into the bottom tray. No lights are on the front, I can turn these on but nothing changes the pump keeps on running. Is there any ideas on what this could be? And if so what spares will I need to fix this? Thanks Aaron

John S

Hmm

Did he use the Sunbeam cleaner to flush it out?

I did a couple of weeks ago and mine is now at the Coffee Hospital being fixed.

Aaron P

I got it working, I believe water got in through the LCD area and was creating issues. I opened the back of the appliance and ran a hairdryer to dry out the inners. Everything working well again!

Our machine has stopped heating the coffee is there a simple fix or is it buggered?

Robyn
Robyn

Sorry not sure, mine never did that. If you can smell a burning smell, then yes the Heater is buggered. Maybe it hadnt heated to ready? Have you tried 2 or 3 times? I would possibly take into a service agent in your area.

Good luck

Robyn

We just had a problem with the water not heating up so decided to replace the unit with the same one but working properly. Would it be better just to turn the machine off at the mains every time we use it to save wear on the heater unit?

We don't turn ours off at the mains.

We've had our EM5600 for many years and were happy with it initially; but for at least the last five years it's been sitting on a shelf, unused. I wanted to give it to a family member, but when I tested that it still works, I found that the pump gives off a loud clattering sound and no water or steam comes out. It was working previously. Any suggestions (I'm about to bin it).

Geoff

Sounds like it needs priming. Maybe follow the new setup instructions for first cup.

Probably seals have dried out.

My Sunbeam EM5600 is only a year or so old but keeps blowing the seal when expressing. I bought a new seal and replaced but it persists. Even then, I shaved the lugs on the plate to get tighter seal (worked) but when really tight the new seal still blows. What can this be?

John S
John S

Perhaps you could contact Sunbeam. I have always found them helpful.

Euge14
Euge14

With this coffee machine its actually possible to put the rubber seal on the wrong way around, which will result in the seal being blown when expressing (water and coffee grinds squirt and splatter everywhere). Make sure the smooth, rounded side of the rubber seal is facing up towards the top of the machine, and that the perforated plate goes into the channel on the other side of the seal (smooth side up, channel side down).

The only other thing that it could be is if the coffee beans are ground too finely and or tamped too tightly. I have found that a very fine grind will blow the seal, even if the seal is brand new. This is just a limitation of the machine. Oh, and also make sure the 4 group head screws are done up really tight. I turn the machine over and use a phillips head bit in a joiners drill (cordless drill with a right angled chuck) to tighten (on slow speed).

Pete
Pete

Thanks for advice, I will check that out. Only thing is that the original seal (not old) as factory fitted allowed blowout in the same manner, and with same grounds that I've been using for over a decade. Wondering if there isn't some bypass thingy that could be blocked??

Pete
Pete

The only thing I can imagine is that the pressure in the basket gets too high? It that adjustable?
