Telstra T-Voice 503 Questions & Answers
VerifiedMy phone will not recharge my batteries? What do I do? Doug @ douglas.ohara@gmail.com
My phone is registered with my modem. I charged it for 16 hours like it said to do. I can make and receive calls. I have set my phone melody and on high volumn. It will not ring when someone calls me at all. I have taken the batteries out unplugged everything and reset it. There is nothing wrong with my modem. I can't even open the phone book or calls button it beeps 3 times when I press those buttons like it is saying I can't do that. Telstra is hopeless our old landlines phone died then they sent us one on 7th October 2023 with a faulty phone. I called Telstra and they put me on hold for 10 minutes to read my question which was only 1 sentence long and then they put me on hold for 30 minutes more. After this they then they said wait well try and fix it please wait 49 minutes then they still could not work it out and put me on hold for another 1hr and 30 minutes. Terrible service.
I have had a similar problem with Telstra 202 Handsets. I’m afraid they are useless and Telstra are as well. I spent a couple of hours on the phone while they tried to fix the problem but unsuccessful. I gave up and bought a Panasonic twin Handset with an answering machine. The cost is around $100 but it worked first time and incoming calls ring with no problem. Hope this helps
I am looking at a. Panasonic KXTG6822ALB Cordless Phone – Twin Pack. Does this register with a Telstra modem? Can I register all cordless phones with my modem?
My 503 needs a replacement battery. How can I access the battery in the handset?
At the rear of the handset you will see a plastic cover simply remove it by sliding it downward this reveals two rechargeable AAA batteries. Taking note of their polarity Remove and replace them with two good quality AAA rechargeable batteries usually available at the battery section at any supermarket for around $10. Re attach the battery compartment cover and place the handset back on the phone base/cradle for recharging and wait for a couple of hours until phone is at full battery power and ready for use. Hope this helps
Tks Fil53. I couldn't see where the two pieces were joined, & thought it was one solid piece. Really appreciated.
Glad to help. Currently I have a problem with my Telstra 503 which I don’t think is as easily fixed as yours. A while ago I accidentally dropped mine on the floor and since have not been able to hear a dial tone or a call when just using the earpiece. It now only works on the external speaker.

How do I stop my Telstra T-Voice from showing up on other phones as Private? I have my phone number in my mobile but it still comes up as Private but I can ring it as my 'home' number - its only Private on outgoing calls
Get your phone company to not set your home as a private number. Or dial 1832 in front of the number you are calling ie 18320404xxx xxx
I cannot pair my old DECT Telstra T-Voice 503 (cordless/wireless) handsets with my newly installed Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3 (FTTP) installed. My research shows you cannot.
Is there any other WiFi cordless phone that will work with this new modem. Thanks.
I have a T-Voice 503 which reliably pairs with my Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2 modem. You say that research shows that it is not possible to pair the T-Voice with the Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3. Where have you found that information?
Look at this link and the last paragraph external link How do I connect a DECT handset to my Telstra Smart Modem™? The Telstra Smart Modem 1.1 and Gen 2 includes a cordless phone base station (DECT – Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications) which allows selected Telstra handsets and devices to be paired directly to the modem.
Important: The Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3 does not include a cordless phone base station (DECT) so can’t be paired with a phone or voice extender.
That's interesting. In answer to your earlier question, then, I would say that no cordless phone will connect directly to the modem. However, I think that you could probably still connect to the modem by obtaining a suitable DECT base station and connecting that into the phone port on the modem. I have never tried this myself because i don't own a DECT base station.
Yes it will work because I currently have an older DECT phone plugged into the phone port and it works.
Thanks for your responses.

how do I locate a lost handset of a T-Voice 503
I note that there are a number of complaints about the failure of the T-Voice 503 to connect reliably with the Telstra Smart Modem. I also had this problem, but after lengthy investigation I was able to demonstrate that it was the modem, not the T-Voice 503 that was faulty. I reported this to Telstra who supplied a new Smart Modem. I can report that this has worked reliably now for two years. Telstra doesn't appear to have any way to test whether it is the handset or modem that is faulty when there is a problem connecting. There is nowhere where you can take the handset to check whether it can connect with a Smart Modem that is known to be fault free. Moreover the technical staff do not appear to know anything about DECT or even what DECT is. They are only trained to troubleshoot faults with the NBN connection.
Some years past since my review. The phone went in the rubbish bin then but I still have the same smart modem working perfectly for NBN access. The fact that telstra were selling telstra badged phones not working with their own modems and not supplying any form of user manual for it as well as total lack of technical support was the point of my review. It was a warning to others not to buy a telstra product not working & with zero after sales support. I doubt anything changed today...
My modem worked perfectly for NBN access also, but it didn't take away from the fact that its DECT function didn't work at all. The phone i have has always worked with the replacement Smart Modem. Also, there was a user manual for the modem. You can download it from Telstra here: external link
My posting was simply to point out to the many people who had complained about the handset not working that it was likely to be their modem and not their phone that was faulty. Telstra was certainly remiss in not having the capability of diagnosing the fault. In my case I had to find someone with an identical modem and test whether the phone could work with that modem. It was only then that Telstra was willing to replace the modem.
My initial review dates back to Nov 2018 when there was no manual or any help, Telstras' customer support had no idea about the product let alone support it. After almost 4 years sure, there may be a manual but didn't seem to change anything, people still seem to have the same bad experiences or functionality questions how to use it. As I stated in my initial review the phone went in the rubbish bin and my Telstra NBN Smart modem still works fine for 'what I need' which is purely an NBN gateway, no phone attached to it.
how can I get voicemail messages on my Telstra T-voice 503
Rubbish phones, but have you tried dialling 101 for Telstra message bank?
On the navigation key you press the down arrow. That brings up the call list and the first item on the list is "Missed Calls" Select that. It will take you to the message bank.
how do i remove data sync from the screen on my t-voice 503 cordless phone
I have a T Voice 503 and am having problems with loss of signal every couple of days. It displays no signal. Searching. I rang Telstra on 5 occasions and the problem appeared to be resolved each timeI talked with the technicians. They told me how to reset the modem and T voice and said the problem shouldn’t happen again unfortunately the problem is recurring every couple of days. Can you give any explanation as to why this is happening. I have no problem with my computer or mobile.
Get them to supply you a replacement handset. They have proven that a T Modem and T voice are dropping communication to eath other, otherwise they could not have fixed it. One is at fault. If it was a T Modem on a Telstra phone line and your internet kept dying they would replace line or modem, so its no difference. You can always return it if problem stays, then they do the modem if no fix.
I just returned mine to Telstra for full refund. I'd had the phone for almost 3 months. Buy one with a remote base station that plugs into the back of the router/modem but allows the phones to be placed anywhere.
I have bought a T-Voice 503 which I have not been able to pair with a Telstra Smart Modem Gen 2. However, having read through dozens of comments on the Telstra Crowdsupport website it seems that the problem is likely not to be the handset but the modem. There are many reports of the dropping of connections being corrected by modem firmware updates. When reporting problems with pairing or dropping of the connection it is important to say which modem is being used.
I am surprised to hear from Telstra tech support experts today that T-Voice 503 handsets on the same phone line cannot be synched. Loading a list of local contacts on one I thought would be easily synched to the other. Not so, according to the Telstra chat site. The T-Hub handsets (earlier technology) did that automatically. Has anyone had the same issue? Tickers
They can, well sort of. If its the phone book it can be set as local or base contacts which is shared among all phones.
hello I received my Telstra T Voice today 21/2/19 am trying to set the wireless connection on phone to register the phone but keep getting no Base can you please explain what this means ... I have tried to pair the phone to my gateway but not working my T Voice is a 503 thaknk you Regards Loraine singh
Yes, had the exact same experience but the Quick start guide say to press "register" then press the pair button. Should be the opposite ! Press pair first for 5 seconds then register, then it works. A technical support person could not explain to me what no base meant either !!
