Finding it rather slow, like I want to push it faster because it's slow? Have I got a dud or is it normal to walk turtle speed behind it?

Gday Megan, well, I found the one I had cut to fast and didnt cut properly, a saying in the turf management industry is, the slower you go the better the cut, but you are always going to walk faster than your mower..its normal..

How to remove a spark plug

I have a 2 stroke Victa Corvet 700 mower that is at least 25 years old. It has served me well, but is getting old. In the future I accept it will have to be replaced. What has equal power in a battery mower. I am a pensioner who mows the lawn every 2-3 weeks. I have a corner block with a wide verge; and went the lawn is under control it take an hour to mow it. Your views would be appreciated. Thanks, RAY

Electric mowers have plenty of torque which is great but due to the low energy density of batteries compared to petrol means most have auto-throttles which means most of the time the mower is operating far below max RPMs and the cut quality suffers as a result compared to petrol engine mowers running at max RPMs. Some electric mowers can disable the auto-throttle by design or modifying the mower which obviously will void warranty and run them flat out but battery life can be less than 10 minutes.

If it takes you an hour to mow the lawn when it is well maintained I suspect you would be very frustrated with an electric mower due to the cut quality and the cost of 2+ high capacity batteries you would likely need.

Does anyone know if there is much difference between the V170 series of the corvette 400?

n1cholas
n1cholas

The Victa V series are Chinese clones of Honda engines, I suggest you go to a proper mower shop and spend the extra to get a Briggs & Stratton equipped Victa, it will last longer and parts are readily available and cheap and servicing costs are cheaper then Honda and Honda clone engines.

I bought the thing this morning, full price $999. Cannot engage the grass catcher. Is there a trick to it?

Mark L.
Mark L.

Hi Chris just lift the plastic flap as far as it goes at rear of the mower and insert catcher.lower the flap which will sit over the lip along the top of the catcher stopping it from coming out.

Also make sure you put oil in the engine before you start it if dealer didn't do this beforehand I.e if u bought it in a box from bunnings etc.

Is it okay to use semi synthetic 10W-40 car engine oil in this mower?

n1cholas
n1cholas

No. SAE30 oil is recommended, when hot it has a viscosity of 30. When 10W-40 oil heats up within minutes in a small engine like on a lawn mower the viscosity will increase to 40 and it will be too thick. Some people use 5W-30 or 10W-30 car oil in their mowers but I wouldn't recommend that if you want the engine to last and warranty to be honoured by the engine manufacturer.

Im concerned about the primer on this model.. I've never had this on a 4 stroke mower.. will the make it harder to start later on .. is this just cheap old technology or not a problem

Mark L.
Mark L.

Hi mine doesnt have a primer. I think the cheaper models have a primer but I dont think its a deal breaker as long as the price is right.
