Can someone tell me the correct spark plug to use with the hawk?

doent run smoothly, revs high then low, high then low and so on.....very anoying.

I have had that problem in another mower, sounds like the diaphragm needs to be replaced. Parts are cheap and it is an easy fix, instructions can be found in YouTube.

Could you please tell me how I can remove the cowling from the Victa Hawk? I have removed the 2 bolts from the top but it is held somehow by a 3rd mounting point at the rear of the engine. "The Gardener".

I have finally discovered the "hidden" 3rd mounting point under the decorative piece on the cowling. It took quite an effort to dislodge the 2 clip points, but once done, there was the 3rd bolt. All is now OK. I needed the cowling removed to get at the cord retractor - the cord had doubled on itself and jammed the retracting mechanism. Cheers!

I have a problem trying to start (pulling the cord) on pull start mowers and was wondering what the Victa Hawk 18 inch mower is like to start ?

Hi I see you posted your question on 8 Feb, but I received notification of it on 14 Feb... I personally find the mower easy to start. I rarely ever have to pull the starter more than one time to get the mower started, even after it has been left outside for the winter and not started in a few months.

The engine is made by Briggs & Stratton and is the same model engine that my previous mower (that I used for 14 years and only threw out because the deck rusted away) had. Interestingly, there are some differences in the engines, the previous mower engine was even easier to start, used less petrol, ran more smoothly and used less oil.
