I was about to sign into Aus Post insurance but after reading the poor reviews, I will not bother. The most stressful time is having a car accident and if you cannot rely on the insurance company to speedily and fairly come to your assistance then i would also advise others to beware until the reviews start to become more favourable on a consistent basis

Just have had a bad experience with Budget Direct car insurance, and bought Australia Post car insurance, but after reading all comments here I think I have made a mistake again by choosing this company. They advertised 'no excess windscreen', I selected the option, there weren't any details about that. When I bought the insurance finally, then it showed the details that it will only cover windscreen repair, but not a replacement. Well in most of the cases windscreen needs to be replaced, highly unlikely it happens when it is repairable. My question is- does all companies have the same type of cover (repair but not replacement), and is it really worth showing trust in AU Post Car insurance? Which is the best one to choose that has an excellent customer service record and claims record?

Had a very good experience with AAMI when someone ran a red light and wrote off my car - claim process was quick and over the phone and a cheque arrived in about 5 or 6 days so I was able to purchase a new car quickly. I think windscreen replacement is standard with AAMI also, but you should just double check that.

Thanks. Heared positive comments about AAMI from other people too.

Is compulsory third party and a green slip the same thing? I have just moved to NSW and wish to get green slip insurance...can you help?

Kerry
Kerry

Yes - CTP is compulsory third party insurance, ie, the insurance that covers other drivers, cars, passengers and property where you are involved in an at fault accident. Your car and you personally as the driver are not covered by this policy. You must take out this type of insurance and submit it at the time of registering your car. You cannot register your car in NSW without it. All insurers automatically advise Roads and Maritime Services electronically when you have purchased the insurance - as do most authorised mechanics who conduct the compulsory safety check on your car when it's due for rego - though if your car is 5 years old or less you don't need to have this done. Otherwise, you must have both of these done to register your car. Registering online is a breeze once you have done these things. Just have your rego papers and credit card handy and go to

www.m.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/registration/index.html?action=renew

Good luck......

Though this is old, it should be pointed out that Kerry's answer is wildly inaccurate. CTP/Green Slip does NOT cover other cars or property. It is ONLY to cover personal injury for anyone involved in a motor vehicle accident. It will not cover damage to vehicles or property. This is what comprehensive, TPP (third party property) or TPFT (third party, fire and theft) insurance is for. If you are driving with only CTP, then you are driving uninsured and will be fully liable for any damage you cause.

Hi Alicia, I did recommend Australia Post, underwritten by Auto & General Insurance. They returned my call after an online quote, while I was out shopping and I spent half an hour with the lady confirming all the car details (it has lot of accessories) and insurance history, etc. Then I took the Policy straight away and paid for it. It was among the cheapest and the lady sounded good. However, when I reached home, I realized that I forgot that the car had a dual exhaust system-- just a normal exhaust , not any performance enhancing one. I told them straight away (in 1 hour) and they called me after 2 days to say that they have cancelled my Insurance. I didn't lie to them and they say, that they cannot underwrite it. I was thinking that I might have to pay a bit extra, but they were abrupt. When I asked them to specify on the letter that they have cancelled because of the exhaust, they refused and they are just sending a normal cancellation letter. It looks very fishy and luckily, I got away with it in the first week. I won't Insure with them again, this car or my second car. I don't think their Claims pay-out will be easy. Their customer service was good as you are speaking to someone based in Australia, but their underwriter (the one who will actually pay) cannot Insure me, even though I have a very good Claims record.
