When I switch the machine on it goes through the standard cycle of pumping water in. However, it just keeps pumping the water in, which gets pushed through the internal drain into the tray at the bottom. When I try to switch the machine off, the front power button is unresponsive and I have to switch off at the wall. Possibly a motherboard issue?
Same issue, I know a year later, but did you work out the issue?
I had it checked out and was told that it was an issue with the water pump and was not cost effective to repair. Since it was actually pumping water but just not switching off, I thought it was more to do with the control of the water pump. Anyway, after having 11 years of service from it, I just decided to replace it with the Breville barista express which I got on a nice discount.
Thank you Wayne
my breville power and steam light goes on but not heating or dispensing any suggestions pls?
There can be any number of reasons for this and it's best taken care of with troubleshooting. One suggestion would be to descale your machine depending on how often it's been done in the past. If descaling does not alleviate the issue, please contact Breville directly.

tablet for cleaning 800 class coffee machine
I need a bottle or tablet for cleaning a coffee machine Breville 800 class?
The manual has instructions for a vinegar and water mixture. You just tun this through thr machine. Then flush it out with fresh water
The light is on and power is running through it but not heating and no hot water, we just brought a new part, the wand , and replaced that. Any suggestions?
my 800esxl will work fine except the steam wand will not steam...hot water, yes...just no steam. Any help?
Sorry Torrie, wish I could help
I bought mine second hand for our caravan.I ran a descaler through the tank and the hard scale that had built up in the machine blocked the steam wand.I unscrewed the bottom of the steam wand cleaned it all out and ran the descaling solution through twice then just water twice..works fine now
does it take pods
I'd like to use single wall coffee filters for this machine. Wondering if they are the same as other brevilles or slightly smaller. 51mm seems to be standard but what about depth? plus the filter holder has an unscrew able plastic bottom which when removed creates a third hole (not good for trying to make two single shot coffees at once) Any info will help Thank you!
Sorry best to direct this question to Breville. The machine does come with single and double wall filter baskets
I have had this model for a couple of years. I find that after making the coffee the grinds stay very wet.
Its messy to clean. What is the answer to getting dry grinds.
I was asked if this machine has a 3 way solenoid valve.
This happened to us too for a while. iwas told to make sure the basket was full and that seems to be working but not sure if that was the solution or if just started doing it right again.
When I turn it to steam, the steam comes out where the espresso grounds are, it doesn’t come out the wand anymore. I’ve had my machine for over 6 years and have never had a problem with it. I also clean it regularly. Any ideas why and any help?
No idea sorry. Maybe a blockage somewhere?
There's a coffee machine spare parts supplier in Bathurst who is very knowledgeable perhaps he'd have an answer or call Breville?
Good luck!
just bought one off gumtree with the same problem. removed wand (a nut connecting it to machine) ran descaler through machine (follow instructions on box) so much scale and calcium came out, probably because old owners had not used it for so long. put wand back on removed sleeve and tip and ran descaler through cleaned tip and behold like new again! Please keep in mind this took the good part, on and off, of a day and 3 whole tanks of water - make sure you follow instructions on the descaler sachet. Also swap from water to steam back to water then steam whilst dial is in steam mode this helps clean the line to the wand. made first coffee today. sensational!
Hi, my parents gave me their 800es. They hadn’t used it for quite some time. But it’s not pumping any water. I turned it on and waited for the heating light. But it made no sounds at all. When the light goes off I turned it to the coffee side and push the button and nothing happens. The exact same thing for the steam. No sound. Any ideas?
Sorry no idea. There's a guy selling parts for all types of coffee machines and is very knowledgeable In Bathurst. He posts out parts and gives info away for free. If you Google him you may well find your answer.

Hi,
I have a Breville 800, it’s been a great workhorse... unfortunately it’s not purging after I extract an espresso? When I remove the group head it splatters the coffee everywhere. I’ve cleaned it out, removed the water filter and cleaned it up... but no luck? The steam wand still purges... any suggestions? Thanks.
Cheers.
I preheat the coffee holder and add the coffee and I preheat my milk in the microwave and then introduce the steam wand until the cup reaches 60 degrees when I can no longer touch the cup; leave the wand in for a few seconds longer, raise the wand with out the outer shell and produce some foam and then hit the coffee button. Within a couple of seconds the "heating" lamp illuminates, so I turn the coffee off until the lamp goes out. I am guessing that once the heating lamp is on, then I am pumping cool water through the coffee. Is this correct?

you don't need to preheat milk in the microwave the wand does it all. Personally we brought a milk thermometer to get the best results. Put the wand in the milk when it gets to around 40-50 degs bring it so it hovers on the top and you will get your froth. My daughter is a barista and told me always do the coffee shot first then warm the milk for best results
Is there an online manual, if so where?

Hi, I’ve had my machine for over a decade. Runs fine except my brew is slow and the head of foam is thin. I ran cleaning solution through it twice but no difference. Coffee still tastes weak. My grinder is variable and I thought I had it dialed in as to the grind but more and more I need a coarser grind. The machine has always had one side of the basket brew through faster than the other side but the coffee was tasted fine. Now not so much. Do I need to have it professionally cleaned by the company? It also recently started leaking a bit underneath. Thanks!
Hello Jessica , my own machine started to show similar symptoms a year or two before it finally failed , I suspect they are a consequence of the machine's age . However there are some things you can do to remedy them . The basket is actually in two pieces and grinds can become trapped in the gap between slowing the machine down and disturbing the foam production . The two halves can be separated by smacking the basket [ by itself not in the holder ] face down on a hard surface until the inner part falls out . You can then clean up the mess inside and replace by simply pushing it back in by hand . Examine the rubber ring that seals the hand piece against the head , coffee grounds stuck here will ruin the seal , reducing pressure and causing leaks , a simple wipe may fix it . The main water screen under this ring can become blocked as well , wipe hard and run the machine with no basket for a moment to ensure it is unblocked .
My machine always needed very finely ground coffee to produce good crema it may be that, the coarser grind you are using is contributing to the 'thin foam .
Thanks for the response. We opened up the back tonight and part of the pump has broken which was causing the water to leak all over and the lack of pressure. We can’t buy the part as it’s not sold to the public. So...we will buy a new machine. She had a good run. Almost 14 years!
My Breville machine has been in storage for a year or two. I have got it out again to use and given it a clean. When I try to run water through it, it doesn't seem to be taking up any water from the tank. Has it been dry for too long? Any suggestions?
Hi Alison B, I'm not an expert to give an exact solution to this problem, but just a suggestion might be worth trying it out to see if this will work: Mix 1 cup of white vinegar with 1 cup water into the empty tank. Extract some water and steam then let it sit for 10 minutes.... then extract and steam the rest of the mixture again. Try this few times, if the steamer works, this might enable the water flow through the dry pipes and might make it work again.
Would be interested to know if this solution did work for you....and good luck :)
Good day. I had the same problem all I did was I opened the machine and manually forced water through the pump ( took some water and blew it through the machine's water pump) this will loosen the inner o rings and start to feed water to the brewing head.
Hi Allison, I had same problem, tried without reading the answers here what philip did. it did not work for me but gave me and idea how to fix it. i got small pressure sprayer, filled it with water and pump it over 20 times before put the nozzle in the machine's water pump. It worked like charm. thinks very much philip.
