Can I use Cabots furniture oil on cane wicker furniture?

Hello Alice Thank you for reaching out via Product Review with your inquiry. If your outdoor cane wicker furniture is bare, you can absolutely give it a coat of Cabot's Garden Furniture Oil to protect it from UV damage and weathering. Be sure to give the furniture a good clean with Cabot's Deck Clean before applying the oil, to remove any contaminates and prepare it for coating.

If you have any questions about this or any other future Cabot's projects, please feel free to give us a call on 1800 011 006.

“As you have said, this product is not a clear oil, but a colour we call 'New Natural'.”

Wow, I cannot believe the politician response from Cabots’s … so incredibly dishonest and disrespectful - no one has agreed that this is a stain product ! It’s obvious that people have expected this product to be a natural finish and not a stain with so many people being caught!

Instead of being reactive Cabot’s, be proactive and listen to your customers!

Hi, after 3 months weathering the furniture, then washing with Cabot's wash we oiled /stained our furniture with this product. 3 months later it is still tacky. What do we do ? as you can't sit on it. How to get rid of tacky oil / stain.

Thanks

Tim

Hello there Kiteman t, Thanks so much for reaching out to us via Product Review with regards to your Cabot's Garden Furniture Oil project. There are a few reasons as to why an exterior oil or stain coating may result in a sticky/tacky surface finish after a month or more, of the last coat being applied. You can rectify this by applying the same thorough wash/scrub down process using the Cabot’s Deck Clean as per label instructions, as you would have done so initially over the bare or previously coated timber. Once rinsed thoroughly clean and dry, you can apply one last even coat of the well-stirred Garden Furniture Oil in colour chosen and that should dry to a nice clean protective, non sticky/tacky finish for you.

If you have any questions about this or any other future Cabot's projects, please feel free to give us a call on 1800 011 006. Is it possible to use the outdoor furniture oil to colour the furniture ie can a tint be added to it?

Cabot's
Cabot's   DM

Hi AMB, Thank you for contacting Cabot's, unfortunately Cabot's Garden Furniture Oil can't be tinted it is already a lightly pigmented oil. If you wish to have some colour I would recommend using a stain. I can suggest Cabot's Deck & Exterior Stain you have the choice of Water Base and Oil Base. external link

We have 250ml size sample pots available. Brushing out your chosen colour on an off-cut of timber or a small hidden area will give you a true representation of the final colour finish.

Hi, we have used this product over natural pine benches that have never been oiled or painted. Applied one coat and the benches have come up a bright orange colour - however we expected that it would be more natural looking. The product description is not in line with the actual result of application. Will a second coat make any difference or best to sand off?

Yes, I agree, our final colour when applied to pine was more of a cedar red or orange. We weren't too fussed about it because it looked bright, but not unsightly and is still protecting the wood quite well. Your choice but it does tend to lighten & fade about 10-20% over the months.

Hi Kirk, Thank you for reaching out to us. In regards to your question Garden Furniture Oil New Natural colour is lightly pigmented to provide that extra protection against UV exposure. We suggest you don’t apply a second coat as the colour will go darker you’re best to sand back the timber.

An alternative product you can use Feast Watson Outdoor Furniture Clear. Please note - Outdoor Furniture Oil Clear is NOT recommended to withstand direct sunlight. For added UV protection select one of the colour tinted Outdoor Furniture Oils which have higher levels of UV filters for longer lasting protection. external link

How do I remove stain on stainless(?) steel from over spill of Cabot’s Garden Furniture Oil.

Hi Ken,

Get some warm water with a mild detergent, use a non abrasive cloth, and with a little bit of elbow grease the Cabot's Garden Furniture Oil should come off.

Cheers!
