My mother and have been a fan of your aromatic body smoother/lotion the early 90's. We recently made a purchase this past September. I immediately noticed a difference in the color and consistency. My mom was wearing it daily since the purchase so when she broke out in a rash on her chest, arms, ears and neck. At first, I didn't relate it to her wearing your product. I took her to her doctor, change laundry powder and discouraged her from wearing any jewelry. The rash was still a problem and was causing so much itching that it kept her from sleeping. Her doctor ordered medications to help ease her symptoms. I was at a loss to what or why she had this rash. Then, I used it the latter of October and broke out with the same rash. Once I realized it was your lotion we immediately stopped using it. I called your company on (11/21/2024, ref# 11739675), and was assured that a report was written so that some one could contact me. I'm still waiting!!! There is a difference in your past lotion and the one being sold today. We have loved your product for many years and it saddens me that it is now such a disappointment. When we first started purchasing your lotion it was $14.99 plus tax. Today's cost is over $50, which is too much to have the issues that we have experienced. I hope to hear from an aromatics representer to discuss these issues. My contact information is listed below. Thank you for assistance.

I sent many emails to complain - they don’t care. Many people must be buying it without knowing they have changed the ingredients- I’m still fuming

Bought this perfume for years then they changed the formula and didn't tell anyone.Just wish they would bring the original back and let people know as the new formula is awful.

DAWN H.

I think they should sell both versions, the old thicker long lasting one for those who prefer it and the new one for those who prefer the lighter one. I personally prefer the older version, I always got stopped and asked what I was wearing with the older version but now ?? Nothing.

I have been wearing Aromatics Elixir for 40 years and I am quite disappointed that you would change the formula. That was my signature fragrance. Always received compliments and the smell lingered in my clothes and my closet. Please bring back the original formula

Granny M

I completely agree with you and I am very unhappy that they have changed the formula. I very strongly state that this is a heartbreaking change and please return to the original formula Clinique. I will not be buying any more. But, I can’t find anything I like. And you are still charging the same money. Shameful! Get your act together.

Rosemary M.

I used it for years and I thought it was my skin that was reacting badly until I read the comments of others. I was also annoyed but not surprised because some companies are just deceitful. Remember there are heaps of gorgeous fragrances (Fragrantica is great for checking perfume ingredients). My new signature perfume is Coco Chanel Mademoiselle. I get complimented all the time.

I just paid $195.00 AUD for Aromatics Elixir, only to discover that it is not the product I have been using since 1973. I am so disappointed, as well as disgusted that the formula has been changed. What I bought is darker, the fragrance no longer lingers. I think this act by the makers should be illegal. I have also been using every product Clinique makes. But not anymore. I will also dread the news of this betrayal to loyal customers. Very unhappy (x) customer.

Jacqueline D.
Jacqueline D.

Completely agree. I wore Aromatics (and just the eau de toilette, not the elixir cause the elixir was a lot more expensive) for over twenty years and several years ago now I noticed the fragrance wore off very quickly. I always had people tell me how lovely I smelt (complete strangers). It was my Mother’s Day gift from my kids for years. It broke my heart to know it wasn’t an isolated bottle and others felt the same. I contacted Clinique and got the standard BLAH BLAH. I went into David Jones where I’d always purchased it and the lady there agreed it had changed and had many customers complain. Today I see Priceline chemist in Australia has the elixir for half price. I am so tempted to buy it. Does anyone know if it’s back to normal yet?

BARBARA B.
BARBARA B.

Why are you marketing Aromatics Elixer the same way ? its a totally different scent and doesn't last at all. I've been wearing for over 30 years. deception at its best.

Phillyloobird
Phillyloobird

Why when you have changed aromatics elixir into the disappointing product with the same name are you charging the same price .also if this perfume is not the same one with different ingredients, is it legal to sell it under its original name. I think I will look into the legal implications of this with my legal representative, having purchased yet another bottle that is clearly a different product.

Lisa G.
Lisa G.

yep. I bought my $110 bottle without trying it at the clinique counter. As soon as I tried it at home I knew it wasn't the same formula. Too bad, because this was rated as one of the best perfumes and I agree whole heartedly. Do not mess with perfection. And Estee Lauder the parent company tests on animals so GOOD-BYE #Clinque never looking back.

DAWN H.
DAWN H.

I agree with everyone, they have taken two ingredients out of Aromatics by Clinique, Oakmoss and Patchouli oil hence why the smell doesn’t last as long as it use to, but for years you were still paying the same amount. WHY CLINIQUE HAVE YOU TAKEN BOTH INGREDIENTS OUT?

Has anyone found an equivalent perfume for the Elixir in your search for a new fragrance after being broken-hearted about the reformulation?

Lisa Quain
Lisa Quain

Have been looking for years, as I wanted something that would last as long as the old formula, that no longer lasts more than a couple of hours. New Aromatics is a total waste of money, way too diluted

Kerri A
Kerri A

I have been looking for a new signature scent for 6 to 7 years since Clinique changed the formula, I have had no luck finding anything that lasts. I wore Aromatics Elixer for 25 years & the new version is rubbish. Today I decanted a bottle of aromatics Elixer & added extra Oakmoss Absolute, Patchouli Absolute, Amber Sweetie & Vetivert Absolute. Just playing around to see if I can get back something like the original as a last resort with lasting power, sillage & projection that I want when wearing a perfume.

I have been using Aromatics for nearly 20 years and imagine my dissapointment when i went to buy recently only to.discover that it not only smells totally different but also doesnt last. . I have been struggling to find a scent to use. Can they please reconsider bringing it back as it was

I’ve worn Clinique Elixer for thirty years and it’s the only event I’ve ever loved. I thought it was my sense of smell affected by COVID, but seeing all of these comments by others and learning the formula has indeed changed was interesting and very disappointing. I will not repurchase again and am super sad about it. Is there any chance the backlash or loss of sales would bring about a return to the original formula?

Lisa Quain
Lisa Quain

It no longer has the staying power, after a couple of hours, the scent is gone. I recently bought Aromatics in white, and was bitterly disappointed, wore it to lunch with a friend, who said she could not smell it, so I asked her to put some on, and an hour later, gone, gone gone, nothing. This will NOT make me ever purchase again, as even cheap Red Door or Georgio last much longer

I'm gutted im in SA and I had bought a few bottles a while back and now after 4 yrs I ran out and had to buy. I wasnt aware the formula had been changed. I'm so hurt had to return the purchase but the store is giving me the run around.

I have 2 bottles of Clinique Perfume spray 100mls can some one advise me why the 2 bottles of same perfume are different colours one is very dark & other bottle is light colour.

DAWN H.

No the older version was darker because of the oils in it, oak moss and patchouli being 2 that have been taken out of the new version.

Ellen B.

What did they omit in the new formula?

Pearl K.
Pearl K.

They substituted the soft sensual floral scent for a harsh offensive aroma. It always lasted all day on the skin too but they must have omitted the oils as well. I wore it for years but I am now turned off.

Julie M.
Julie M.

It might be the reason they had these long lasting perfumes all my favourites have all changed because Chanel No 5, Miss Dior Le Parfum and Clinique Aromatics Elixir all used I think it was taken from Cats sweat glands and that got banned which was good for cats but now they have no staying power. I don’t understand because men’s aftershaves have really good staying power. I think that is what I heard but it was to do with Chanel No 5 and the Original Miss Dior so I figured Clinique may have used it too because if it’s incredible staying power. I was given it for my 21st Birthday and I’m 68 now. When I used to wear it to work one of the men said that perfume is like no other. It lingers after you leave the room and it’s very sensual smelling. He was very happily married so no funny business there. Lol

Why are some perfumes darker in color than others? Does it mean the bottle is older?

Dawn H.

Why did they remove the oily ingredient from Aromatics Elixir by Clinique? Put it back in PLEASE the smell doesn’t last as long and if us women are paying the same price for it then leave it alone. PLEASE.

Rachel Bloom

Apart from eventually changing the formula completely, the key ingredient you are referring to is oakmoss. Banned by the overseers because 2-3% of people have an allergic reaction.

Dawn H.

Ah yes I had a allergic reaction to it if I sprayed it on my pulse points on my neck, I wondered what it was that caused that reaction.

I agree. I’ve worn AE since it first was released!! It was my SIGNATURE perfume. It WAS so rich, like a perfume oil. Sometimes the spray would run slightly onto my hands…like an oil. I did not care….I’d just rub my hands on my lower arms to distribute the overspray. There’s no oily rich depth now….just a feint aroma of what AE USED TO smell like. Quite heartbreaking really, after wearing AE for over 40 years!! Clinique need to work work WORK to bring this beauty back!!!

I, too, have noticed the change in the perfume Aromatics Elixir. The perfume does not last as long and I have to use much much more to retain any kind of smell. Please please, will you be reverting to the original formula? I THINK but do not know, if it was the oakmoss which has been omitted. I no longer get compliments on the fragrance and will not be buying any more until I am sure the original formula has been restored. Many thanks.
