I have recently painted my laundry tiles with this range and it looks amazing. I would like to now stencil a pattern on to it, but unsure which paint to use. Do I need to use the same paint ( different colour) and do I prime again where the pattern will go?

This product is rubbish, see my review the first part of which is shown below, go to the link to see the whole review and Dulux's answers, which in the end offer no help at all. best of luck, Sue F https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/2ac1cc8b-c8f5-595d-9a18-0dac62b3f6fe#comment-a96cefb5-064b-519c-99f9-1efedaee3976

Does not stand the test of time. We are VERY experienced painters. Followed instructions for this product to the letter. We KNOW that everything was done correctly. It's a very time consuming process, 6 days all up. 1. sugar soap (twice) and sand. 2. Primer one one side of kitchen cabinet laminex doors after removal. Allow 8 hours drying time (so a full day). 3. Primer on second side of cabinet doors. (Also 8 hours drying time, again a full day). Ditto laminex benchtop. 4. First coat of colour (allow 8 hours... you get the drift). 5. Second coat of colour (yep, as before). 6. Final clearcoat on cabinet door fronts and benchtop. Tell client not to use benchtop for a week, to allow everything to harden. So two weeks of not being able to use your kitchen. After 18 months client contacted us saying the product on the benchtop was peeling off and chipping. We also noticed, after going back to look, that the colour had darkened markedly. We retouched the peeling and chipping parts and rang Dulux to let them know about the product problem. They actually told me that this product is not intended to be permanent!!! They said it is just an interim solution until you decide to replace your benchtop. (Yes, I couldn't believe it either.) It certainly doesn't say that on the product packaging. Will never use this again!

I'd suggest not using it at all. There are too many bad reviews about this product. See this link: https://www.productreview.com.au/reviews/2ac1cc8b-c8f5-595d-9a18-0dac62b3f6fe#comment-a96cefb5-064b-519c-99f9-1efedaee3976

Hello John, Thank you for your message! There is a pot life, once you combine the additive, of 10days. It is not recommended to use the product more than 10 days after the additive has been mixed into the product.

I used your product on my kitchen bench top a year ago and whilst happy with the result have decided I’d like to repaint a lighter colour. What is the procedure when it comes to painting over? Must I use primer again or just sand the surface and apply new top coat?

Dulux
Dulux   DM

Hi Richard, it's great to hear that you had a good experience with Dulux Renovation Tiles & Benchtops. If the coating is in good condition, you should only need two top coats, however using the Dulux Renovation primer will always give you a better result so before you paint, it's important to clean the surface thoroughly. Happy to answer any other questions, you can call us on 13 25 25 (option 2). All the best - The Dulux Team.

RichardC

Just to clarify ..should I sand the previous colour before applying the new? The coating is in very good condition so likely to consider not applying primer just will clean exceptionally well!

Dulux
Dulux   DM

Hi Richard, you don't need to prime the surface again. However, when your surface is completely dry you will need to sand the surface (P400), remove all dust from the surface, wash the surface with Selley's Sugar Soap then reapply with your new chosen colour. The Dulux Team

Hi, I was wondering if I can use the primer after 3 days? I have one section to paint on bathroom cabinets and don’t want to use a whole new tin if possible. Thanks

Dulux
Dulux   DM

Hello Tracy, Thank you for your question! We do not recommend using the primer after 3 days. The Primer is a two-pak paint system with a hardener added. After three days the product hardens too much to continue use after this time. For any further advice please contact our Help & Advice team on 132525

Thanks Sarah at Dulux

Hello, I chose a white tile paint for my splash back and now wishing I had tinted it grey. I have enough paint to do at least two more coats and wondering if there is a tint or product I can mix in myself which will tint the paint grey.

Giulia D.
Giulia D. · Renovation Range Tiles & Benchtops

Hi there,

I have painted the walls in my bathroom. I sugar soaped the walls 3 times and wash all tiles down thoroughly before painting. I sanded the tiles down with a machine powered sander and did this for a long time. The tiles looked slightly scuffed but minimal (despite the many hours and energy that went into this.) I have now applied 1 coat of the primer, 2 coats of colour and 1 coat for the final protective clear coat. I am about to apply my second but slightly scratched the tile (with very little pressure) and the paint came off very easily. Is this normal and will it become more durable in time? So far I am not satisfied with the quality of the product as it does not seem durable at all. Can you please advise if this is normal?

Thanks,

Giulia

Giulia D.

Dulux
Dulux   DM

Hello Giulia, Thank you for your query. It is completely normal, the product will fully cure over a 7-10 day period, so will continue to harden for you in this time! As a guide, after 7 days , Dulux Renovation Range will be suitable for full use but the product will continue to improve their performance for up to 20 days.

If you needed any assistance with the scratched area and the best ways to repair, please call us on 13 25 25 (option 2). All the best with your project!

Why can’t a mohair roller be used? The Bunnings rep actually advised me to use the mohair instead of the microfiber but now I’m hesitant after reading on the can that says do not use mohair

Dulux
Dulux   DM

Hi Angela, We've found that 4mm microfibre rollers leave the best finish with the Dulux Renovation Range, and we would hate for you not to be thrilled with the result by using a different roller! Other rollers may leave hairs, streaks or an uneven finish, so while mohair may be great for some projects, we do not recommend it for the Renovation Range. If you'd like more tips, help and advice, please feel free to give our friendly technical team a call on 13 25 25 (option 2), and we'll help you out! - Lucy at Dulux

It took a long time to fully cure. And lose that tackiness. Particularly in colder weather. Maybe 10-14 days. We still used the surface lightly during that time.

Dulux

Hi Bobby G, Please keep in mind that in cooler/winter conditions it can take longer to cure and should allow longer for the coatings to fully dry before using them normally. We recommend allowing a minimum 7 days for full cure, but if you're still finding a tacky finish you can call us on 13 25 25 and we'll help you out with how to aid the process. - Lucy at Dulux

Hi I have just removed the tape from around the sink it has removed some of the bench paint do I have to sand and start again or can I just touch it up and do a couple of clear coats over the bench?

Happy_Chappy
Happy_Chappy

Depends on how bad it is. It is NOT touch up-able to look nice, but you can make it look mediocre at a glance. If you’ve removed a large flap of paint, you can ‘glue’ it back down a little. Please don’t waste time and money trying to get a mirror / perfect finish, you can’t. Also, beware of their clear coat. It dries incredibly quickly so you have literal seconds before it ‘goes down’ and sets to a point where you can NOT fix any Slight mis-laying when rolling it.

This product is extremely poor value for money. It’s certainly feasible you can get a nice finish by prepping with sandpaper till mirror smooth, then applying with a robot arm and drip feed…or spraying, those are things that 99% of the population can’t do.

Can I paint over a laminate bench top that has already been painted

Rosalene Bradbury
Rosalene Bradbury

I would think you could. Assuming the existing bench top paint - oil or water based - is already well and truly cured, I would repair any cracks, wet areas with an epoxy putty, sand the whole top smoothly, and then proceed with the Dulux system. Just remember to leave at least seven days between the 'colour coats' and the top protective coat(s).

Best advice is to wait a day between two or three layers of the protective coat. Put each on really fast with a micro roller, don't touch up afterward (so make sure the bugs are kept away/ do it in daylight) and don't sand between protective coats.

Peter B
Peter B

Yes you can repaint, but you would have to repaint the whole benchtop. Or if you just touch up a scratched area, other areas may have the same problem. Dulux were no help at all with the problem. The benchtop had been painted for around two years. Dulux just pushed the problem I had onto the painter when it was their product that was not up to scratch (sorry for the pun) PeterB

Happy_Chappy
Happy_Chappy

Why waste your cash on this? It’ll make the painted surface look worse. Better off with an epoxy based thick paint which will smooth out the existing finish somewhat.

Marie S
Marie S

Thanks do you know if I’ll need to prepare it first or can I just give it a good clean and paint straight over it?

Happy_Chappy
Happy_Chappy

Always PREP surfaces…. Clean, sand, fill, prime, sand, fill, prime, sand, fill….. If you don’t, every single surface imperfection will be gloriously transferred to the final finish. A bonus feature of this product is that it’s not very viscous. You simply can’t put it on thickly enough to mask any surface imperfections , But any attempt at masking surface imperfections shows up in the final finish because the paint dries too quickly enough to allow any corrections.

Summary, Prep or your surface will look crap. But, if you don’t prep, your surface will look crap anyway because the paint is impossible to apply

Hi just wondering if the shower can be used after 2nd coat and waiting 8 hours? I’m assuming it can as I believe I need to wait 7 days before applying clear coat..

Happy_Chappy
Happy_Chappy

Highly advise to NOT put water anywhere near for a LOT longer than 8 hours. Read the manufacturer’s instructions, For kitchen worktops it advised several DAYS. Also, read reviews before buying…it’s a fairly mediocre , overly priced product. If you shower and never touch the walls and are happy with a rough, badly painted textured surface on your tiles, go right ahead….

Dulux
Dulux   DM

Hi Tracey, Great question! We do not recommend using the shower until the complete system has cured, as these coats are still curing and may scratch easily, and contaminants could become trapped between coats. We strongly recommend waiting until the final coat has been applied and cured before returning to full use of the shower. If you have any questions about how to get the most durability for your finish, please feel free to contact our technical team on 13 25 25 who can offer help and advice! Thanks, Dulux Australia

external link  and external link  finding the MINIMUM time between layers is 'tricky' but the youtube video - external link  says to wait a MINIMUM of 8 hours between layers.... so, do like I did and paint in the evening, leaving overnight to resume the following day... so, your maximum time between layers to stay within the manufacturers guidelines is somewhere between 8ish and 48ish hours and also 7 days before you can put things on the surface

Importantly, DONT BOTHER with this stuff, it's horrendous value for money, extremely difficult to apply in any form that actually looks decent and SOAKS UP water like crazy....

contains the 'instructions'

you can do 'light use' after 2 days....

the instructions don't really give a guide between

It's a three week project to renew BENCH TOP: Day 1: primer coat. Day 2 first colour coat, Day 3 Second colour coat, Day 11 first clear coat, Day 12, second clear coat, Day 13, third clear coat, Day 14, fourth clear coat, Day 22 start using bench as normal. Oh and NO sanding of the clear coats which must be put on in about a minute. This is what worked for me.

Rosalene Bradbury
Rosalene Bradbury · Renovation Range Tiles & Benchtops

I would be grateful if the following observations could be sent to your technical team / information writers. There seems to be a miscommunication between your technical experts and us ordinary naive (stupid?) people in bench top rejuvenation land . You state that recoating can be done with your renovation range after a minimum of eight hours. So eight hours after putting on my second gloss colour coat I put on the clear coat paint. There was no gloss result! Your customer service rep just told me that the clear coat is not paint (who knew?) and that there has to be AT LEAST THREE AND IDEALLY SEVEN DAYS between putting on the colour PAINT and the protectie clear coating. I suspect one of the reasons why - judging from your reviews - so many fail with your system is that many think you are telling us to recoat with clear coat eight after the second or third colour coat !!!!) Sorry guys - you do say seven days to cure but I took that to mean seven days for thhe colour PLUS clear coat to cure. CAN YOU NOT SAY SIMPLY IN LARGE LETTERS "WAIT A WEEK BEFORE PUTTING ON THE CLEAR COAT"? That would have been so helpful. Rosie Bradbury
