Hi i used a carpet on the deck to put a pot on so it wouldnt scratch the deck. The deck has two cured coats of FW wet look. With all the rain the carpet tiles dye has leached into the deck. Is there a product you recommend to remove this stain without stripping?

Hello there iam7mullen, Thank you for reaching out via Product Review. Depending on the extent of the dye over the surface, you can generally reduce if not remove the dye stain by pressure washing down the deck surface area and lightly scrubbing over the area in question, with the Feast Watson Woodclean dilution as per label instructions. Please be sure to use a medium to soft bristle brush during the wash/scrub down process. If the stain is still quite stubborn after the wash down process, you may need to give the surface a light fine grit sanding using a 120 grit sanding pad and then apply the wash down process again. Once rinsed clean and dry – You can apply one even coat of the Feast Watson Wet Look to finish.

I've used this on both Merbau (=Kwila in NZ!) and Vitex Decks. I love the look, and hate the cost.

My experience is that it seems to stand Sunlight OK, but hates being wet (and we get quite a lot of rain in NZ), especially if the deck has any cupping.

I'm experimenting with Water-Based Decking Oil coatings over the top of the Wet Look coats.

Any recommendations, comments, or feedback from similar trials would be appreciated

I have a large Merbau deck under direct Sun, 2 coats on correctly prepared Merbau looks perfect when freshly coated, by the end of summer it needs recoating. Materials are very expensive as I am 85 yo, I have to employ a professional, total costs are prohibitive. Feast Watson Wet look Deck Oil will not last a year in direct sunlight.

I really want to give this wedlock a go, however is it just like other deck oils where I can clean and reapply each year or is it going to peel and need sanding like varnish type finishes? Thanks

I clean and re-finish mine twice a year on the exposed areas and once under cover. I've never seen it peel. I do recommend giving any really rough areas a light sand. We get a lot of frost in winter and then hot summers (over 35). So it stands up pretty well.

Am I going to have to sand this annually before reapplying or is it like other oils where I can just clean and reapply?

NO - I just gve over mine. BUT you should sand really rough areas.

We have a cypress deck, and now want the merbau look. Can you tint the wet look oil. The sample card at the hardware store seems to indicate you can but sales person was not sure.

There are videos on Youtube. What they recommend though is that you sand the original deck and yes you can get it in different tints. Here is the link showing colours. external link

Im laying vic ash decking. I was wondering, if I use wet look, will it stain it slightly yellow. Or will it be really clear

Not sure about that. You need to check at Bunnings or buy a small amount and test it on the deck in a out of the way spot

We only needed one coat of timber stain decking oil however over night 3 things went wrong. 1. A member of the family accidentally left a shoe print can we just oil over? 2 . Roof leaked with a small dip 3. Slug left silver trail. Can we use maybe a paintbrush just to lightly go over? Thanks

Can you apply a wet look Feast Watson over an oil based product

Hello. I have a brand new Silver Top Ash deck, 95% undercover and limited direct sunlight/rain on the edges. I'm wanting a clear, gloss finish, which lets the natural pale colour of wood come through. I'm guessing the Feast Watson - wet look is ideal (by the sounds of the reviews) - can you please advise of wait time/prep materials required - etc. The Deck is part of a significant renovation - it will be a central and regularly used part of our home. I want to get this right from the start. Any advice is appreciated. thanks. CJH

Hi Jacqueline, Yes, Feast Watson Decking Oil - Wet Look is suitable for use on particle board. If you're unsure how it will look, we suggest patch testing on a small area to ensure you are happy with it.

I used the wet look decking oil about 18 months ago.Reasonably happy with it.But my concern is that it turned the timber a dark chocolate brown. My question is, if I apply another maintenance coat is the deck going to look even darker? Also, if I decide to go back to a standard Feast Watson deck stain, can this be done?

Hi, is your wet look decking oil the same as your wet look deck? Am unable to find wet look deck in store now and was wondering if the name had changed. Thanks.

Natural Decking Oil

Needs some help as the second Coat has failed to dry.

It has now been 30hrs, the areas in the sunlight have dried and the shaded area has not. If touched you still get colour in your fingers from the oil
