How do I know exactly what model I have? I purchased a storage unit at auction, the bike was among the items?

There are so many models and bikes, every year Giant release a new line of bikes each different from the previous year. Giant also went away from the TCR Advanced frame and have named it differently. The colour would be the best giveaway because if anything differs between the year and type it's this. all I can suggest is that if it is a Giant send me a photo or just google Giant bicycle range 2010, etc and have a look to see if you can find your bike. You may even get lucky by searching for the serial number under the crank shaft

Is a TCR 1 a good road bike or are they more a race bike for use on a circuit?

I would call them more of a race bike. If you haven't done much road ridding I would suggest a Giant Defy they are more relaxed in their geometry and a more comfortable ride.

You will love the TCR1 Giant bike, do yourself a favour and just buy it. It is full carbon fiber with Ultegra running gear so it is designed in principle to be a competition bike but can be ridden anywhere. I ride my to work and back which is about a 40km road trip, in trialthlons, sunday morning rides with mates etc You can buy a cheaper model Giant, they are all pretty good bikes, it depends what your after and what you intend on doing with it. If you are just new to cycling buy a cheaper bike and make sure you like it themn you can sink some serious money into a dearer bike down the track. Don't do what some do and buy an expensive bike, ride it a few times, decide its not for you then sell it for a big lose
