King Koil Chiro Luxury Questions & Answers
VerifiedI just bought a King Koil Chiro Luxury Estate firm. Absolute nightmare from first night. It is like sleeping on concrete. Feels so different to the one in the show room which I laid on for a good 10 minutes or so. As soon as I lie down on this mattress all pressure points hurt and it feels sooo hard. I woke up with muscle spasms and headache after first night. After second night almost crying. I tried lying on top of my doona and 2 folded blankets and still the hardness comes through. I had to get up and move to my sofa with a heat pack on my back because of the pain. It hits my ribs, hips, knees etc. I had already bought the mattress when I read the reviews so I called up Harvey Norman (before it was delivered) saying I was worried. He assured me that it is a top seller and that I would be fine. My previous mattress was a firm but it never felt like this. I should have listened to the bad reviews. I now do not know what to do. I look at it as a torture instrument. Am sleeping on my sofa which is not that comfortable but still a better option. Does anymore know of what style topper would be best to disguise concrete?
Hi Anne B, Thank you for reaching out, and sorry to hear you are experiencing the level of pain described. It can take a little while to get used to the level of comfort and support provided by your new mattress. If you have been sleeping on a different type of mattress, the materials of your new mattress may feel quite different from what you are used to using.
We do find a new mattress may also feel a little different to the one you tried in the store, as the mattresses on display in retail stores have been tried and tested by customers over several months, resulting in the various components settling. These mattresses are the future state of what you have purchased.
If you are using your new mattress on a different base from the store, this can also alter the final level of comfort and support you experience at home. We do recommend that you sleep on your new mattress for at least four weeks to allow the comfort materials to respond to your unique shape, size and sleeping positions.
If you do not feel any changes, please reach out to us on 1300 654 000, and we can discuss further, and talk through other remedies.

Thank you. Yes I asked in the store if base the same and he said yes. The trouble with breaking in is that I’m unable to because of the pain it causes. So to break it in I was advised to walk on it instead for a week or two while I continue to sleep on my sofa. I will let you know if that doesn’t work.
Did the mattress come right?I have exactly the same issue with the firm.mattress in shop was great.the medium felt way too soft even though my old one is medium and great. This firm one I purchased is like sleeping on concrete as you say, digs into me in knots,so bizarre and a shock to have something so uncomfortable, like sleeping on uneven sacks of potato’s
Hi Rob, yes! So even though they say not to the salesperson recommended it. So every morning and night for 2 weeks I would get on the bed and walk all over it, sometimes bounce up and down. I was then able to sleep on it. It felt a little hard but I had no back reaction. It then softened up more over the next couple of months. Now it is perfectly fine. Thank God!
Just wondering since this mattress I purchased is nothing like the one in the shop, did you find it became more supportive with a sense of comfortable spring or so called luxury feeling to it. My one feels like one of those cheap basic futons from the 80s so in other words a sack filled with a hard substance. When you press your hand on it you can’t feel any spring or rebound it’s like a sack filled with something very hard. Definitely does not feel like an engineered luxury mattress and it’s like it digs into me.I have the option of changing to a medium top but need to decide if it’s worth paying for that or just accept I bought a lemon which is nothing like the ones in the shop. A technician is going to check it but I don’t hold any hope for acknowledgement that there is inconstancy across the board for this product. When yours softened did it feel comfortable and what you expected from the ones in the shop or is it just better than it was? Thanks for your help or input
Hi Rob, I am sorry you are going through this nightmare. It is now fine for me to sleep on and if I press the top of the mattress it feels spongy but if I lie on it it doesn't feel spongy. I really wish I had more of a "cloud" top. I agree the mattresses felt completely different in the shop. As mentioned I am ok with mine but it definitely does not feel like luxury. I don't know if other King Foil mattresses are better or if it is the whole brand but I definitely wouldn't trust buying another. So I guess mine probably does not feel as it though it did in the shop but it is comfortable enough for me to sleep on. I am just worried how long this will last. See what technician says maybe yours is a fault if not maybe swap for a medium but I don't see why it should cost you. They should swap it over given what you have experienced. Good luck with it all. I honestly don't know why we should all go through this when we simply just want a comfortable mattress worth every penny we paid!
Thanks so much for your reply it is very helpful.
I just purchased the King Koil Chiro Luxury Estate Plush Mattress yesterday, after trying many in-store. Little shocked at the comments i have just found here. I have only left a deposit, and can still change decision at this point. Is there a way I can find out if King Koil have made any improvements to this mattress in recent years?
Good Morning Sound, Thank you for reaching out, and congratulations on your purchase. The Chiro Luxury Estate is a excellent choice in mattress. When it comes to reviews, we do find that comfort is highly subjective, and there is no standard as to what a Plush, Firm, Medium, or even Super Firm feels like. As these comforts will vary between brands, as well as different models, this makes the decision process hard for many consumers, especially if they shop simply by the old feel of a previous mattress.
Because of this, and given a mattress is the most used product in the entire household (with 6-10 hrs of use every day), some things we recommend you to consider when in-store are:
Always test with your sleep partner present. Lay on the mattress in your preferred position, be that stomach, back, side or a combination. Spend as much time as possible testing. Not just 5 minutes. As comfort is subjective, focus on the comfort of the mattress as well as the support, this can take 15-30 minutes. The mattress that you tried in-store is the future state of the mattress you just bought. A plush feeling mattress is designed to contour and settle to your body faster than other comfort feels.
With your plush style mattress, this will give you the feeling of sleeping "in" the mattress as the foams are going to be softer, and conform more to your body shape. If you are a "hot sleeper", this plushness can create a micro-climate and if not using Tencel style sheets (or other breathable fabrics), you may experience the feeling of a warmer sleep.
As you increase the firmness, this tends to have you sleeping on top of the mattress, instead of in it. When it does come to this, we have a guideline of "body impressions" of which a plush mattress will show this more than the other feels. We talk about this in our Bed Care & Guarantee guide available on external link .
We do revise our products from time to time, and offer a guarantee on manufacturing defects and faults. As we manufacture locally in Australia and New Zealand, we stand by our products, and are here to support you locally.

WOW I slept on this bed for two nights and loved it woke up with no back pain for the first time in year's. I came here too see what people are saying about it and I am totality amazed what people are saying, So I guess I will not be buying one. Thanks every one for the reviews.
Hi Gladiuz M That is an interesting way to make a decision. There will always be no matter the brand people who simply do not like the product and people who love it. However, given that AH Beard has been around for over 120 years and sold millions of mattresses both here and overseas. In effect the longest running Australian owned and operated business in the category. I’m surprised by your decision given the very few comments made considering the millions sold. Sometimes it’s not a fit. Thank you for your comment and we wish you well on the hunt for a sleep surface. Should you wish to narrow the selection down here are some tips: a. Lay on the mattress for 10-15 minutes, (all users) b. Use your preferred sleep position (side, back or front) c. Test the side and centre. (remembering the side is the future state of the mattress the centre part is what the mattress will approximately feel like once it arrives home) d. It can take up to 8 weeks for your body to get use to the mattress. Some people experience muscle memory discomfort in this time, hang in there (unless there is an underlying health issue)
Other things to consider is whether you’re a hot sleeper or colder sleeper. This will further narrow the selection down in relation to the materials in the sleep surface.
If we can be of any further assistance you can contact us on 1300 654 000 and or email customercare@ahbeard.com Kind Regards Customer Care Team
What do you mean "That is an interesting way to make a decision." Isn't this what this website is for to help you make a decision and a lot of people say your bed sux, So is my "decision" "interesting" because you don't agree. The bit that concerns me is the sagging in the middle after 1-2 years for that price I would not expect that. Like I said I think the bed is amazing but if I am going to spend thousands of dollars I want it to last and apparently it doesn't.
Hi Gladiuz Thank you for responding. The comment made was around the volume of available data and usage. Review sites like this one and others offer a binary view when there is not a good sample size of data. Meaning that the review is either amazing or not. User information, environment information, usage information, terminology and definitions is largely missing and it is up to the consumer to make a decision. The challenge for customers like you and I is to look beyond the obvious stuff that is I’m unhappy or I’m happy. Is if "I'm unhappy", was it choice or didn’t meet expectations(then why?, what were they?) etc Considering things like time in business and numbers become critical in our customers' decision. The sagging was incorrectly described in all of the cases. It is natural body impressions. Sagging is altogether a different issue. That is, the mattress failing in the centre, specifically the spring unit not the comfort layers. Comfort layers will always show wear first. That is regular wear and tear. Any mattress brand regardless of price or makeup will show these attributes. With softer feels (plush and ultra-plush)there is a more pronounce body impressions as the mattress is designed to envelop the occupant, that's what the mattress is designed to do in that feel. Customers sometimes are not told this or have not considered it. That is to say, the mattress they experience in the store feels great at the time of purchase however they needed to consider that the mattress like any product that is used for “8 hours plus every day”, wears. Sometimes customers consider a firmer mattress knowing it will wear in overtime and give them exactly what they want. Others change their mattresses more frequently under 5 years by choice so they have the optimum feel consistently. AH Beard has and will always honour its obligations to its customers and have done so for 120 years(no small feat) when there is a manufacturing issue. We unlike many of our competitors offer a respecification service in the first 2-3 years of ownership. What this means is if the customer got the feel choice wrong(rather than being stuck with it) we can respecify the mattress within the range to a different feel for the cost only of materials and transport. We genuinely want to make sure our customers select the correct sleep surface and in that light If I can be of any further assistance please email me your details and we can have a conversation about selection. We would be more than willing to assist. Kind regards Customer Care Team
How much is this bed in a king size and why is the rating so bad when it looks so nice?
Looks nice, feels nice in the shop, happy to email you a photo of it after 2 years with 2 ruts in it from being slept in, and neither of us are heavy
