Michelin Primacy 3 ST Questions & Answers

Not sure Philip. My car is a 2014 Mazda 6 which probably did 80% highway cruising and 20% urban run around. The Primacy 3ST were perfect for that and remained "quiet" till about 125k. They wore evenly and at 130k when I bought another set still had good grip and handling. Probably had 5k left in them but they were getting noisy and Mazda 6s are very prone to road noise. Best tyres I've ever bought.

What can I say. They're quiet, comfortable, grip well wet and dry and held that grip until the end of their life. As long as you don't buy cheap tyres you'll do alright.

Hi Tony and Ed Thanks for the responses, I guess i am looking for a tyre that gives me comfort safety and importantly low road noise.

In my experience with these tyres road noise was quite low.

I seem to remember seeing XM2 and Primacy 4 having similar wear ratings stamped to the sidewall, I'd imagine you will get excellent Mileage on the Primacy's based on their reputation

Look at your driver side door. They indicate the tyre psi or at most you ask your tyre specialist

I always go with 35, driving without any issues for 5 years.

I'm just a limo driver, not a tyre expert, so I don't know whether it would be suitable for your Prius - suggest you ask a tyre fitter. Regarding wear, please refer to my review - I have no further information to offer.

Michelin PS4 is for performance and grip.

Michelin Primacy 3ST is for comfort and quietness. Look up the Michelin Cushion Guard technology.

What vehicle is that for and what size is it? What pressure are you running at?

Ford Mondeo zetec sedan and size is 215/50R17. Pressure is 36 psi (recommended by manufacturer). In summer use 34 psi. My son gets car sick due to bouncy ride which was not the case in previous car (mitsubishi magna)

So I am looking for comfort and which tyre would you suggest?

I have just got michlin 3st fitted to my corolla altis . A dramatic diffrence in noise level and comfort. I am happy for the value for money tyre set.

I"ve been using Michelin Primacy 3 St tyres more then a year... Good for family Very Quiet Smooth comfort in wet/dry braking and the mileage is awesome... If you want something better in terms of performance n you are bit robust driver then get Michelin Ps 4...

I bought Michelin primacy ST in Sept and they are so quite. Only a slight improvement to the bounciness but worth it.

I would be asking the dealer these questions. I am happy with my tyres and very little road noise.

Hi David, in this size, you will be looking at the Primacy SUV, that is equivalent to the Primacy 3ST but for SUV. I have them on my Mazda CX 5 and they are extremely quiet. Probably the quietest tyre you can get due to our Even Peak technology.

The Primacy 3ST is probably the quietest tyre available in the market. There has been a lot of reviews on the noise and comfort. Personally, after doing 124,000 km on these and now running the Pilot Sport 4, I can confirm that these are a lot quieter than the Pilot Sport 4 or anything else in the market.

After my first review and three months later, I have not changed my mind and would replace any new car I may buy with the Primacy 3 ST TYRE.

What size tyres are you running? Speed and Load rating?

Pirelli Cinturato P7 comes in that size and is very quiet and has exceptional wet grip. Would be perfect for the Commodore. About $235 per tyre from a quick search.

Hi Captain Curley. The car I drive originally had the Bridgestone Turanza. They weren't very good. The Michelins made a big difference with tyre noise. They are very quiet, and comfortable. I do think the price is higher than the Potenza, but I feel they are worth it.

The Michelin Primacy 3 ST is a very quiet tyre and plenty of grip in dry and wet. Your size has a "W" speed rating, so constructed for performance. I have Potenza s001 on a Honda Civic Sport 215/45/17 and they get noisy after every 5,000 klms and MUST be rotated. I even corresponded with Bridgestone about the problem. Highly recommend the Michelin ( and have had 3 sets on a 200kw Aurion ). Hope this helps.

If you go to quiter tyres go to touring ones, the potenza are sports the turenza are touring but it is compromise you loose a bit of performance on touring tyres only if you only drive normal on city roadand highway are ok.

My suggestion go for Michelin sport 3 the are performance tyre and quite or the Michelin prymacy are touring super quite and last longer.

THANKS guys for the feedback i ditched the noisy Potenza tyres after only 2 weeks they were as comfortable as Fred Flinstones vehicle and prone to Tramtracking now 4 Michelin Prymacy 3 st tyres have brought back the smile on my dial

Hi Gordy. From my experience with the Lancer, it should be quieter on coarse surfaces, but it will not be silent. On smooth bitumen my car is now near silent - I can hear the engine and transmission now - where there was some rumble and roar before. The Mazda is almost as noisy as the Lancer when it comes out of the showroom - neither car will ever be completely isolated from road noise, IMHO. As I said in my review, the road noise is dramatically reduced with the Michelins, though.

I can only speak for myself on this, but I consider the Michelins to have been money well spent, not only for the noise reduction, but also for the better wet road grip than my original tyres. The wet grip is something I cannot comment on for the Mazda as I have no experience with their handling in rain.

Hi Buddy...The answer to your question is YES!!! The extra money is worth it. We have just done 20000km and the noise is none, it's like having new tyres.

Hi Gordy, 205.50.17 in Primacy 3St are a 93W ( load 93 and speed rating of "W" or 270 KmPH), so the tyres are clearly meant for performance. They are a very quiet tyre, but as stated in replies above, not silent. I have Bridgestone S001 on a Civic Sport and they are much much noisier than Primacy 3 ST, and require rotation every 5,000 klm.

So, if they are within your budget, they are worth the price ( $240 at Jaxs less $100 back on 4 tyres).

Hi Trevorjack, I use the Michelin Primacy 3 ST on a Toyota Aurion and recently recommended them to a friend to put on his Subaru Liberty Outback 2012. After 10,000 klms he is very happy with the Primacy 3 ST's for grip and low noise for highway driving. He was replacing expensive Yokohama Geolandar's.

If you are going off road in your Jeep, you might consider the OEM tyres for 2013 Nissan X-trail T31 4x4 which is the Dunlop Grandtrek ST20. We run these on two X-trails and they are very quiet and long wearing (still looking terrific at 30,000 Klms with regular rotations). The Dunlops are more expensive than the 3 ST's, for 17" rims but still well priced around $220 (Tyresales.com.au).

I would pick the Dunlop ST20 over the Primacy 3ST or the Bridgstone Duellers which were OEM on the earlier X-trail T31 we have.

The Dunlops also come in an All Terrain tyre 'AT3', but I have not used them. I have run B.F.Goodrich All Terrains on my Landcruiser for the past 10 years..

I was told Michelin has a version for ix35 too. Or else you could try Yokohama. They make good tyres with less cabin noise. In fact, I've done some long driving and found Michelin extremely good in terms of grip and noise reduction. Good luck.

I've had the Primacy 3 ST on my ix35 for the past 65,000Km and highly recommend them. They handle the wet perfectly and they make tight steep cornering feel like you're on rails. Most of my driving is long haul over both nasty and nice secondary roads and they handle all types perfectly. As for being quiet, I think the road surface counts because they are noticeable, however, having said that, they are whisper quiet on the rare occasions that I drive along a freeway.

ive had them only now for 5000km,, im hoping being replacements for the mxv8 that ill get 70000km,, being Michelin i dont think ill be disapointed in the mileage , i never have been.. The tyre store are all backing them.

I have been using Michelin on my VW and Subaru vehicles since 1990 and always managed 95000+ km per set, I also found the comfortable and not sensitive to balancing or rotation issues, unlike the Bridgestone, Goodyear & Yokohamas I tried from time to time. The Bridgestones and Goodyears were very hard, slippery in the wet, and uneven wear patterns - giving 45000 per set! Yokohama I had multiple out of round and uneven wear pattern issues. So only one brand for me Michelin.

My first set of tires on Ford SMax was Primacy HP the second was Primacy LC then 2 more sets on Primacy 3st. Currently did 106000km my comment, Primacy HP pricy hard but more on performace. Noise I dont bother. Primacy LC less pricy Ok but Primacy 3st most reasonable for my heavier MPV always try to mantain at least 250 ressure. No complaint considering my MPV CARRIES NO SPARE TIRE!☺

I have no idea about the DB or sound rate, I just know they are the quietest and most comfortable tyres I have ever had. I read somewhere that they were made for the Asian and Australian markets and were not available in Europe. I had some visitors from the UK here last month who were amazed at how soft the ride was and how quiet the tyres were. They are great.
