I'm looking for new tyres for a Nissan Navara dual cab that does mainly road work (80/20) with some gravel/dirt and tows a horse float (near 3 tonne when loaded). Have airbags on springs to help with towing and have tried the General FR Grabber AT2 and most recently the BF Goodrich All Terrain, running a 265/70R16. Mileage for both in the low 50's but did like the ride of the BF's particularly. I have been recommended the Goodyear Wrangler Adventurer and to move upto a 265/75. The BF's are a new tread pattern and rather flash new price to match, any advice on what would be good? Am a bit concerned some of these treads maybe a bit too aggressive for my needs but doesn't seem to be much in between.

Cheers, Kate

Hi Kate,I paid $417 each, very quiet tyre, had Atz Mickey thompsons on my prado last, got around 65000k out of them,I don't tow as much as you. I can say they are just as good as the ATZ tyres on the sand, you can't tell your in a four wheel drive on the freeway its that quiet. They still have a high load speed rating, good year wranglers are the same price as the mickeys. The new Atz p3 Mickey thompsons are good from what I hear,my boss just put Yokohama at's on his land cruiser and loves them, fraction of the price.

Why do my tyres make so much road noise?

Wisey
Wisey

G'day Prajero, I have no idea - sorry. All I can say is that in our application - Jeep Grand Cherokee - they are about the same as the factory ones noise-wise, or maybe a teeny teeny bit more if you wanted to really nitpick. CERTAINLY nowhere near as bad as we were expecting given their aggressive looking structure. They've done over 10K now and we still have no complaints whatsoever. We will probably put the same onto our old Prado when its are due for changing.

All I can suggest is that you correct any wheel alignment/balance issues and re-check for correct air pressure.

How much do Mickey Thompsons Baja Belted 39-18.5-16.5 tires cost?

Wisey

G'day Stacia,

Mine were $1515AUD fitted for the 4. My size was 265/60R18. Not sure if this equates to the model you are looking at.

Cheers

How does your garenty work if you have driven 50,000km and the wire lets go. Do you replace the tyre

You are probably out of luck with any tyre company. it is now obviously flat, you are deemed to have driven it flat, so bad luck. All you can do is ask politely, show evidence and witness if you have one.

what are the M/T stz 265x65x17 or 265x60x18 like in the wet / on tar and for road noise? i want to put some A/T type tyres on my ranger wildtrak

it has bridgestone desert dueler H/T on it from the factory and they have 0 noise and a great ride so i don't want to loose the ride quality

Craig French
Craig French

We got Dunlop H/T from factory. Couldnt get rid of them quick enough, terrible all round. The STZ will be slightly more noisy, great in wet on tar and so far clean out well in the mud, just bush tracks (not hard core). Slightly harsher than oem, but dont think you can have everything in one tyre. We are very happy with upgrade. See also " unsealed 4 x 4 e magazine" for a quick rundown on a lot of a/t tyres

I have done 50,000 k's on my Mickey Thompson's to date and have found them to be fantastic for ride etc and off road, they are now starting to get a bit noisy but no different to any aggressive tread off road tyre. I have had no problems in the wet and will definitely be replacing with another set when the time comes although that could still be a while they still have heaps of tread.

Why don't they make a decent AT that fits Prado??!

Craig French
Craig French

Seriously Bob, google says 265 65/17 for your Prado, which is the same as our BT50. We think they ,Mickey T ATZ are pretty good allround. If more adventurous go to the new Mickey , has side biters and fatter tread.

BobBatch
BobBatch

Thanks Maureen, the Prado has 245/70r17's on it, which the dealer reckons is the correct size, and match with the specification label for tyres on the door column. There is however a speciation label lower down on the door column with 265/65r17. In contrast to the dealer's recommendation, I infer that it is a case of either/or?

BTW I've ordered the STZ's - they seem to have a pretty good rap

Has anybody run a mickey Thompson on a Jeep Grand Cherokee I have a 2014 model struggling to find a tyre that fits hope somebody can help.

Wisey
Wisey

G'day Neil. How many KM did you get out of the original fitment tyres?? We have only done 27000KM in our 2014 Laredo diesel (265/60/R18) ... and they already look buggered!! We were about to order Coopers ... but they only offer two types in that size ... H/T Plus and A/T3 - and both review poorly on this site. So we are in your position mate ... hopefully somebody will answer you/us ... or we will just have to be the guinea pigs for you! Cheers, Michael.

Will fitting Mickey Thompson stz 245/75r/16 tyres to my Isuzu Mux lsm have any negative effect on its ABS function?

Stephane B.
Stephane B.

the abs function works on each individual wheel speed sensor -it compares each wheel sensor and assist to keep them all the same.so on the global any tyre works closely with the abs. will you see a difference? probably not.if you change all 4 then I expect you to have similar braking on each wheel from each tyre so you should be pretty right....

Craig French
Craig French

If this is same size as original factory tyre it should be fine. If it is a bigger tyre it will affect your speedo accuracy and also economy.

Boyd
Boyd

I have 265.65.17 stz's fitted, the tyre people told me to run them on 40psi and I will get better even wear, I have done this for about 12,000 klm's now, bitumen, beach and bush and never had a problem so far. good luck.

chrisoftheinland
chrisoftheinland

Yes, depends on what you are doing with them but the rule of thumb here in Alice Springs is 40 all round, a little more in the back if you have a lot of weight. This is best for highway and firm surfaces, gives you less rolling resistance and therefore better fuel economy and keeps your sidewalls straight to avoid low, wall punctures.

hi fellow 4be's just wanting to know how to remove blue coating on m/t side wall lettering without damaging the tire?

Use coarse wet and dry sandpaper.
