Hi, I just bought a 2012 Mitsubishi outlander ES ZJ with a type 2 dash style. Does it have a temperature guage? There is no temperature guage only a fuel guage in the dash read out. Or is there a trick to it? Thanks

Hi Phil, Not too sure about the 2012 model. I'd suggest you check with your local Mitsubishi dealer.

Hi Jenifer, Not too sure about this model. Best to have a mechanic to check before purchase.

I have a diesel, have had it 2 year, the last year there has been the odd little chug when coasting along the highway. This problem got rapidly worse and the car blows smoke and loses power and ability to get revs up. I have replaced the MAF sensor yesterday and it went beautifully until this morning when it was cold and it played up again. It’s blowing smoke, can get revs or power up, just dies when you press the accelerator. Starts and idles fine.

Take it to a local mechanic, they will look iver it for you, Mitsubishi are hopeless at their own brand.

Take off air inlet hose & try a few spurts of throttle body cleaner. And of course make sure to replace air filter if you havn't done so.

Wipe around inside of throttle body carefully with a clean rag. Check outside of throttle body for leaks of oily sludge or soot. Would also replace fuel filter.

Hi there, just thinking of buying outlander phew 2015, 82000 km but I'm a little bit worried about the battery degradation over time. Can someone please tell me, what is the actual fuel consumption if the battery goes flat completely, city and highway journeys? Does it work like Hybrid Prius after battery goes dead? Any answers highly appreciated!

Frank
Frank

Running on petrol alone it is much the same as a petrol only car i.e 8 to 9 l/100km on the open road.

Stephen
Stephen

Would not pay a penny more than a non PHEV as the battery is hopeless. My vehicle was purchased back by the dealer after 21/2 years for the original purchase price after the case was due to go into court in that week. After years of trying to get the battery replaced. It was a long and stressful period. Stephen

Wendy

Have a 2015 model and the battery has degraded to 44% , Mitsubishi will do nothing about this and a new battery will cost $14,000-. About to go to court to make a claim. Potential purchasers of these cars be warned!

I looked in my manual for my Automatic Outlander, for the backseat to move forward. It says a leaver under the seat, however, there's no leaver. And yet, the seats, sit on tracks. I looked where you straighten or recline the seats, again nothing. Any ideas?

Abhishek A.
Abhishek A.

What year is it? If its one of the new ones it shoulf be visible when you pull the seat out. Push the 2nd row all the way back n then pull seats out and you would see a lever

Mine is 2017 may ls manual. Has anyone had trouble with faulty manual transmission and tyres that have no recommended inflation pressure on sidewall. Maybe I was lucky to get a lemon and deceptive online ordering from Mitsubishi Australia when ordering an MY18 and referred to Launceston Mitsubishi and getting an MY17 model, and online search from ASIC details a shelf company that has no value in it. And excuses such as no longer works here type legal disclaimer which is not worth the paper it's written and only as good as their word. So happy with the quagmire of blame and lack of total responsibility. Lucky country eh, western liberal democracy where the rule of law shall apply and ACCC not worth a brass razoo because always on the phone talking rather doing their job - as I DID at Attorney Generals dept, 200 Queen St Melb, Bankruptcy branch doiung searches and coming up trumps not TRUMP_

The petrol has a timing belt also there was a recall on the belt gears a few years ago. If that has not been done the belt will wear quick.

I had the 2.0l manual. But from memory 1250kg braked 750kg unbraked. Also from what I've heard the CVT's don't last long with heavy towing.

I recently purchased a petrol Outlander (Petrol Excell) and am very happy with it. I spend most f my time driving in 2WD ECO , however recently the 2WD eco indicator disappeared ( no idea why) so I took it to local dealer and he said to drive it in 4WD Eco. Do I have a problem with the auto transmission? I read the owner's manual but their is little or no reference to 2WD. When I press the 4WD button on the centre console their is no reference to 2WD. Can you help?

Rusty
Rusty

Hi Pete, I own a diesel powered 2013 outlander which has a different auto gear box to the petrol versions however is similar in the 4WD settings. My vehicle has 3 x 4WD settings to select. (No actual 2WD setting.)

4WD Auto (2WD until front drive wheels slip then engages the rear wheels. Quite responsive.)

4WD Eco (Same as 4WD Auto but not so much punch/power - I've found that I have to push on the throttle a bit more)

4WD Lock (Constant Power to all 4 wheels but responsive)

Does the car seem to go into 2WD?

Maybe the indictor in the dash isn't engaging.

I had strange things going on for a few hours with my electrics after installing a new entertainment system but did sort itself out.

Sorry I can't put my finger on the problem & I'm interested in what's causing this issue.

Although left hand drive cars I find that the American owners put a lot of comments & videos online regarding the Mitzy Outlander.

I do hope you get some resolution.

Cheers

If you check out the forums that have compared modes for fuel economy the 2wd is a waste of time.

Tam

Seeking clarification on the use of the ECO button in outlander 2014 on the dash, can this be used in 2WD? My assumption is after reading the manual that it can be used in 2WD and if the wheels slip it then engages 4WD, but the ECO 4WD mode saves on fuel? I wasn't sure if this should only be used when the 4WD button is selected. Thanks in advance

Hans
Hans

Hi Tam I don't profess to be an expert on the Outlander and found the "ECO" button to be more like a sales gimmick. I would think that your nearest Mitsubishi Dealer should have all the answers on their products and should be in a position to explain how this stuff works....

Hi Rusty, took the car back to the local dealer and they said to drive it in 4WD Eco which they say is actually 2WD! So that's what I am doing andsee what happens. Thanks for your help on this issue and to everyone else, very reassuring to talk to others about their experience. Pete

Tests have been done by many consumers and the conclusion is that eco mode uses more fuel than 4wd auto.

Ross
Ross

ECO mode only alters the throttle position which is why it feels sluggish. Turn it OFF.

I currently own a 2008 Outlander I love it, had it for 3 years no problems whatsoever. it presently has 132000ks on the clock. I am looking to update to a 2012 Outlander with 145000 on the clock. Opinions wanted plz. do I stay with my 2008 outlander which I have had no trouble with or update to the 2012 model?

Ross

I have had both petrol and diesel. Diesel is cheaper to run and quicker especially when towing.

I have just purchased a 2017 zk 7 seater outlander but finding the volume of the Bluetooth hands free phone extremely low. Did you know of or have any problems with Mitsubishi's "Limited Life Warranty" (12 Months from date of first registration or 20,000km). Any component subject to regular servicing

• Glow plugs

• Fuel injectors

• Shock absorbers

• Brake pads or linings

• Cooling and fuel lines or hoses

• Rubber or plastic components

Tony
Tony

I haven't had any problem with any parts so haven't needed to use any warranty claims.

Neil

Car has been bulletproof so far for me, no need for any warranty claim. Service (including a minor recall) has been excellent for me at Northshore Mitsubishi in Ryde.

SandyG
SandyG

Hi, Never had an issue with any of the above, But warranties do not cover wearing items such as brake pads, clutches. Shock absorbers are covered should a leak be evident and cooling system leaks are covered under said warranty. Rubber and plastic fittings are subject to age and can be considered wear and tear in some cases

Ross

My diesel needed a new water pump and had a cracked exhaust manifold all fixed under the 5yr 130000k warranty. $4000 for the exhaust problem alone. Apparently not uncommon.

I have a 2013 ZJ diesel auto. Has anyone had theirs shake when it changes 1-2 & 2-3 or shakes when on the over run downhill??

SandyG
SandyG

Hi, Sounds like your CVT transmission may need an fluid change but some shudder is not uncommon for this transmission. Take your vehicle to your Mitsubishi dealer and have them do a Scan Tool check and have them change the oil in the transmission this is a simple drain and fill service.

Fandiz
Fandiz

Thanks SandyG but my auto is a standard 6 speed with paddle shift. Each time I get the dealer to look at it (it's just had its final warranty service) they reboot/initialise some/all computer circuits & it runs perfectly for a day/week/month but then starts one of the different shaking symptoms!
