RATSAK Electronic Rat Trap Questions & Answers
VerifiedI purchased one of these a few months ago and it was great. Since then I've purchased 6 more with great results. All up I've had 7 for about 3-4 months and catch mice regularly.
However, 4 of them no longer work and I've not been able to figure out why. Swapped batteries with one that works. Swapped the kill chamber with one that worked. After the initial switch-on a red light comes on and that's that.
So I do recommend them for sure but I'd really like to work out why I have such a high fail rate. I've cleaned the kill chambers but never done anything with the power bit other than swap batteries. Again, a kill chamber that works on the 3 good ones does not work on any of the 4 bad ones.
I hope someone can help :-)

I found exactly the same thing. I have 4 electronic traps, and, after maybe a month only 3 worked. Now, a year later only 2 work, which makes it an expensive way to get rid of rodents - however, the bonuses are off the charts: No dangerous chemicals killing other animals that eat the mice (which aren't cheap either, and aren't always effective) - I throw the dead mice out into the yard knowing the kookaburras will snap them up real quick (to be fair - the same benefit as the bucket trap, which is also outstanding, a lot cheaper and never 'doesn't work' - but they are ideal for outside and around the chicken coop, not in the house); the kill is fast (which is important in my books); they fit neatly and unobtrusively under and behind cupboards; they tell me when something has been caught, so I can get rid of it quickly; batteries last for ages; when they work - they work! So I've spent about $200 on 4 of these, killed well over 100 mice over the year. I spent $200 on ONE whiz bang rodent killer and have only had one kill in the same time. And I don't know how much a professional rodent treatment would be - I'm betting a lot more and it would likely involve chemicals and bait stations. I would like them to last longer - so it's a good thing to let Ratsak know that the units do fail - some quite quickly, so that they can look into tweaking the device last longer.
Why would a corporation create a device aimed just at collecting small newborn mice? Isn't it possible to create it for general use, such as for baby mice, little mice, and large mice? The machine's opening is just big enough for my finger to get through. I'm hoping it's a baby mouse. The only size offered at the Bunnings warehouse in Seven Hills was $49.95. Why are they bothering to make such a little machine?
Complete garbage and waste of money, should have spent the money on baits.
Up until tonight I’ve only ever heard the mice in the backyard, unfortunately one sneaky little guy decided he was going to check out the inside of the house tonight. I have set the trap in the cupboard under the kitchen sink (he was on top of the bin). Will I be able to hear the zap when it goes off?
How do you remove a caught mouse that is trapped in the back of batterie chamber
Flip open the lid and tip the mouse out. Don't have to touch it.
Can you use the rat trap for mice as well?
It works fine for mice, it would have to be a small rat to fit in it.
Yes, you can.
Yes Jodie B, I have caught very large rats in mine as well as mice but I had to fit mesh over the end where the holes are to prevent mice sneaking in the back. They could pinch the bait without going onto the metal shock plates. Since I modified it there has been no more 'pinched' bait, just dead mice. These traps need re-set after each kill. My original post has a picture of my modification.
Thankyou very much
How did you secure the mesh to the trap?
Just send you a msg to try to see how mesh was secured.
How quickly does the rat die?
I happened to be in the room when I heard it enter (but couldn't see as it was behind a box). 3 seconds I'd guess.
