I took delivery of a new Tiguan yesterday after a brilliant 3 year run with a golf, mind you I avoided dealer servicing. I was just about to purchase a 5 year service plan and now I’m reconsidering, it’s a good idea if it works but with all the negative reviews I’ll need convincing to spend 3 grand on it

Bottom line - in my opion (for what its worth), wherever you take your vehicle you will need to be on top of the service agent no matter what these days - sadly. Pride in oine work seems to be a dying quality. In relation to the VW service plan, your $3K for 5 years service equates to $600 PA roughly one service PA / 15,000km. The only service I had that went anywhere near $1k was actually $3k and that was when the timing belt (and a new water pump) was fitted at the 105K/km service. The rest of my servicings float from $400 - $600 - my vehicle now has over 155,000km on it. Still a great vehicle. For peace of mind and knowing that if VW are servicinbg the vehicle and something goes wrong they will find it difficult to wiggle out of as the service agents - $5k could be seen as a 'peace of mind' plan. Just look up the actual VW agent you will be using for reviews on their customer service / vehicle servicing departments (if you can find anuthing). And remember, even the best can get negative reviews, its about consistent negative reviews that you watch for. I would pay for the $5K servicing plan if you have the cash spare. (in my humble and mentally unstable opinion... :-)

Thank you for your response, everything you say is spot on, the dealer I bought the car from seem very ethical but that’s only a feeling, your idea about seeking reviews on the dealer I intend to use is great advice and I will do just that after replying to you. There is a dealer 10 minutes away from where I live whom I wouldn’t take a bicycle to and there arrogance is the only thing they do well, hence why I bought my new car in Brighton, it’s $3k for the 5 year once a year service plan and no normal price rises which is appealing but even so it’s useless if the job isn’t done right or they find expensive mysteries that only they can see.

I’ll do my homework now on the exact dealer as typing in VW was nearly all negative reviews, thanks again and I’ll follow your advice, regards Paul

Can anyone suggest a competent service place for new Crafter (4motion). In Melbourne. I am quite fearful re above reviews but there is no other vehicle to match and I wonder if new factory to build might offer a better product. Am I a dreamer?

I'm sorry, whilst Berwick VW seem to very excellent in the sales area, we haven't had the car long enough to test the service department.

VW Berwick nearly literally killed me, had my car serviced by them every 3 months, they were consistently telling me they had checked/replaced my brake pads, then less than 1 week after the last service I let them do, I put my foot on the brake and the car kept going, horrible metallic sound, had it checked by a third party, all brake calipers were metal on metal, cost $1600 to fix. AVOID!

That's what I was fearful of. Thanks for the input.

Heard from a little bird sometimes the brake pads are fitting with brake pad flipped over for special customers.

Why doesn't VW have a Cherry Red Caddy TSI 220 available any where in Australia? To have to order something four months or more in advance is ridiculous. My dealer in Hervey Bay couldn't even show me a metal sample of the colour. You're colour range on the face book features Cherry Red. I'm very disappointed. All that is available in Queensland I've been told is the Caddy TSI 220 auto petrol is black, silver or white.

Yours,

Helga Becker.

We bought a petrol VW Tiguan model 2009 with 106000 km from a dealer near Liverpool. From the day they sold it we had no end of problems and it keeps going into safety mode despite numerous repairs. They would not fix it properly to take it back. This has been going on for 2 years now and enough is enough. I look forward to expert advice. Any ideas?

You need to bite the bullet and get rid of it, allalrernatively you can go to the CEO and request intervention.

I have lodged a claim with VCAT for unconscionable conduct as they don't want to respond to my queries or own up the failures of their staff

We are trying to get rid of it but on that day it went into Safety mode again and they returned it!

Hi. A decent service place I use is Comet at newstead. They are a small company and only use fully qualified mechanics for everything. So they told me.... They deal with European cars. But.. They won't detail the car or anything so it's no fancy experience. Just a small business. I have had no problem with them except it's always a wait of a week or so to get a booking. This is just my opinion. I am not connected at all with them either.
