Weber Baby Q Premium (Q1200) Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPNs: 51012024, 51042024 and 51062024Can you use a full plate on a baby q1200n
Hi George, yes you can use a full hot plate on the Baby Q 1200N. You can find the Full Hotplate at your local Weber Store or Specialist Dealer or online here: external link Thanks!
Can you buy a smoker box to fit the Q1200 please?
I personally haven’t purchased one, however a quick search of Google said they can, different suppliers can for about $17.00 aus
Hi Rebecca, the smoker boxes are not compatible with the Baby Q due to the sizing of the grills and the required space needed for the smoker boxes and the convection tray and trivet.
Conversion of baby Weber 1200 to a bayonet fitting to be used using a 90l lpg tank. Is there an adapter to allow connection of the bayonet
Hi Rex Thank you for submitting your question. Would you be able to send us a DM on Facebook of your current barbecue set up and we can assist you further. Alternatively, please call our customer service line on 1300 301 290 (AUS) and they will trouble shoot this with you. Thank you
Can the Baby Q be fitted for use on a caravan slideout using a bayonet fitting??
Weber cannot be used in conjunction with your caravan. Weber doesn't back you with parts, they won't sell separately. Do yourself a favour and get something else. Thru my Weber out, tired of cleaning the bleeding thing and grazing my knuckles and cuts on the sharp edges. Cheers Wayne
Hi David, following the new standards a barbecue attached to a bayonet fitting via a flexible gas line whether used in a slide-out, inside an annex or connected to the outside of a caravan can not be used without a flame failure device.
We have been working on a solution to a flame failure device that involves new technologies that go further than the simple cut-off provided by a thermocouple. This new technology is taking longer than we hoped but will be introduced in early 2023.
@ David - just to correct some misinformation posted earlier. Yes you can use a Weber if you connect direct to a gas bottle - it's how we have always used ours runs off the spare bottle. Once the flame failure device is released you'll be able to connect to a bayonet legally again. Yes Weber sell parts directly to you the customer. Of they will provide parts free of charge outside warranty as well. They will provide replacement igniters, both types, for the lifetime of the Q free of charge. All you have to do is phone them.
Is the new Baby Q fitted with the safety flame out feature that is now required, to use the bayonet fitting on my caravan?
Yes, you need the bayonet fitting. Can't fit it to a caravan. Weber won't sell you parts separately. Do yourself a favour and get something else, I did. Got cheesed off cleaning the bleeding thing, grazed knuckles and cuts. Gave me the greatest pleasure throwing it in the bin. Cheers Wayne
Hi Daryl, the Baby Q range does not come with a flame failure device that is required for barbecues manufactured since the change to the Standard to be used with a caravan bayonet fitting. The team have been working on a solution that involves new technologies that go further than the simple cut-off provided by a thermocouple, and will be introducing this in early 2023. The new device will be a retrofit accessory that can be fit to any Baby Q.
In the mean time if the barbecue has been manufactured since the change to the Standard then it can still be used connected directly to a gas bottle.
Claim made in the first reply is untrue - Weber sell you any parts you may require apart from the flame failure device but I'm sure once that is available you'll be able to buy that too. Weber will actually often not charge you for parts required after the warranty is expired as well.
https://www.productreview.com.au/consumer-profiles/9d95383a-ef2e-5ee5-8c4d-965ded800e2b so what did you buy to replace?
Since gifting our Weber Q1200 to our son and stupidly purchasing a portable flame safe stainless Chinese BBQ for our caravan, we’ve been following these ‘promises’ for over a year as we wait to buy another Weber. Weber Barbecues A. - Thu. 22 July 2021 : "We do have a flame failure device in development but they are not due to be completed until early next year." (i.e. early 2022) Weber Barbecues A. – Tue. 2 Aug. 2022: “The team are looking to have the device ready by the end of 2022/beginning of 2023.” (i.e. early 2023) Now there is a flame safe Ziggy portable grill in the Australian market, do we dare to hope that Weber will finally deliver on its promise of a retro fit flame failure device in a timely manner?
Stay away from Weber unless you just love cleaning the thing. I got sick of cutting myself and grazing my knuckles every time I cleaned the thing. Even methodical cleaning didn't help, it smells and remained greasy afterwards. Went for a flat top BBQ, haven't looked back since. We offered ours to someone and even they didn't want it.
Sad when all that marketing just turns out to be words. Check out smiths bbq. I have asked them where it is made. It has flame fail.
I'm sure the FFD will be available as it's such a popular appliance for many van BBQers so they will be wanting to continue on in that market. The first reply person seems to like copying the same thing over even when the question asked isn't about his reply.
Can l connect my baby q gas hose to a 2kg gas bottle
Hi Glenda, often we recommend using larger gas bottles for their longevity but also with some small bottles the fittings can be too small for our barbecue hose to connect. If you do have a smaller sized gas bottle that fits the hose fitting then it is fine to use, just be aware that with a lower amount of gas this can sometimes impact the pressure of your barbecue.
Our barbecue guides and cooking times are based off using a 9kg gas bottle and we are only able to advise cooking times with this, we have not tested with a small gas bottle for timings to be able to advise you here on how long it would last.
Can I use weber baby q connect to 3'8" BSP-LH valve on 2kg gas bottle? thanks
If I buy the smallest BabyQ can I choose to get a higher lid? I’ve been told I can’t cook a full chicken. I only want the smallest BabyQ
Hi Robyn, there are two model options for the Baby Q which is the Q1000 and Q1200. The Q1200 has a slightly higher lid to the Q1000 which some prefer when cooking roasts, but you can still cook a roast in either model!
Could I use the weber Q on a table or do I have to use the stand
Hi John, you can use your Weber Q on a table but it would need to be made from a non combustible material.
Where can I buy a replacement regulator for my Webber 1200 here in New Zealand or Australia. Will not put gas through correctly. Have gone on line and followed guidance's. Occasionally works after frustrating battle when works is great.
Would suggest getting one through Weber if they have it. I haven’t had that problem so haven’t had to do much research there. Apologies I couldn’t be more help.
Hi Graham, we have a range spare parts for all of our barbecues including gas hose and regulators. You can either contact us on 1300 301 290 (Aus) or 0800 493 237 (NZ), via our website contact form or on our social accounts to organise a hose and regulator, just be sure to have your barbecue serial number handy when you contact us.
Thank you. I have the model No. 51060001.But unable to find the serial Number
Thanks Graham. You can locate the serial number on the back of the barbecue on a white data label and will consist of two letters and seven numbers, alternatively you can also locate the serial number on the front of your owners guide.
We do require the serial number to sell gas parts, however if you are unable to locate the serial number please get in touch with our team and we will be able to go through an alternate identifying process to help in supplying the gas hose.
We purchased a baby q premium and our new apartment has a natural gas outlet, are we able to convert this from LPG?
I believe you just need an adapter for the hose however you would need to confirm this with Weber.
Hi Damien, thanks for your question. The Baby Q is not designed to run on NG- only LPG. This is part of its approval through the Australian Gas Association, as it is classed as a portable barbecue. Unfortunately we don't have a conversion kit or an adapter to make it connect to your outlet. You will have to connect it to an LPG source such as a gas bottle.
I meant Baby Q 1200 sorry
In NZ does the Weber Baby W 1200 have a gas hose included with bbq when you buy it?
Sorry i'm in AU, you would need to check with your local retailer
Hi Fluffy, yes the Baby Q comes with the gas hose in the box.
Does the baby q half hotplate fit the baby q premium model to?
Hey Casey, apologies I’ve never tried that. Perhaps best to contact Weber direct for this.
Hi Casey, yes the Baby Q hotplate fits in both the 1000 and 1200 model.
Yes Casey, it fits.
Considering purchasing the Q premium (Q1200) simply to enable me to be able to have on hand a means of being able to have hot food and COFFEE during our frequent loss of power. As living in a "semi rural"area power works everything! Would the baby Q resent not being used for periods?? S.M.
Hi Shirley, the Baby Q will be fine and still work great even if it is not used for longer periods of time! Many people only use their Baby Q when travelling throughout the year and will keep it stored away when at home.
We would advise that you thoroughly clean the barbecue after use and before you store it away. Also keep in mind if purchasing the Q1200 this barbecue contains an electric igniter, therefore the battery may go flat in the period you haven't used it and could need changing. Hope this information helps and if you have any further questions please let us know.
Is there any reason that we cannot use a 2kg gas bottle with our baby q when away camping? Is there a safety issue, or is just about the gas lasting longer that 4kg is recommended? Thanks.
Hi Rose I found this on the Webber Australia web site We recommend the 4.5-9kg bottles to ensure that you have plenty of gas to get through a great number of cooks before you have to change it over. Just a question Rose what size gas bottle do you use at home ?
Thanks heaps for that info! At home we have a 9kg bottle. For camping we usually take a 2kg bottle for a gas stove (but now have the baby q instead). We have just filled the 2kg bottle & its a space issue in the car to take anything bigger. I was just worried it could be a safety issue. If its just to cook plenty of times we should be sweet as only away for a weekend. U think? Thanks heaps for your help! ☺️
Hi Rose, often we recommend the larger gas bottles for their longevity but also with some small bottles the fittings can be too small for our barbecue hose to connect. If you do have a smaller sized gas bottle that fits the hose fitting then it is fine to use when you are away camping and there is no safety issue, just be aware that with a lower amount of gas this can sometimes impact the pressure of your barbecue.
Hope this information helps and please let us know if you have any further questions!
Thank you. That’s very helpful. Clears things up perfectly. Much appreciated! :)
Can this be used with the small screw on non-refillable gas cylinders like Coleman Lightweight 1 lb LPG Bottle in Australia?
Hi Marko, our Weber Q range has been approved by the AGA for use with a gas bottle no smaller than 4.5kg, so the small canisters you're talking about are not suitable.
Only in USA?
I see there are Baby Q 1200's for sale and Baby Q1200 premium for just a little more. What is the difference between these two models - we are in lock down and cant go to a store to look. Thank you Jacinta
Hi Jacinta, what you would be seeing are the Q1000's and the Q1200's. The Q1000 is our standard Baby Q model. This can be found at most national retailers and is the perfect travelling companion! It can grill, roast and bake, all on the go. You just need a convection tray and trivet to turn it from a barbecue into an oven.
The Q1200 can do everything that the 1000 can do, just with some updated features. It has a higher, domed lid that has a thermometer installed. It also has an electronic igniter, as opposed to the Piezo igniter that is featured on the 1000- the electronic igniter will continuously spark until the barbecue is lit whereas the Piezo igniter will need to be pushed each time to make it spark.
You have some extra colour options in the Premium range, which is only found at our Weber Specialist Dealers and Weber Stores around Australia.
Let us know if you need any more information :)
Thank you for that. Do I need to buy a convection tray and trivet for the Q1200 also? Does it have to be the Weber brand for size etc. What is the cost of these two items approximately. The Weber is a gift - so just checking its in my budget.
My burner tube does not light up all the way around
Hi Bill, ensure that there is nothing blocking the burner tube holes by brushing it with a wire brush and cleaning out the cookbox. You can also poke the holes with a paperclip to clear them if they don't light. This video may help but if you have any further questions please let us know. external link
