sucking power for traditional Indian cooking. In the Swagon installtion guide it says to installed the motor on the roof but the distance is too high. Can we installed the Motor behind the wall ?
Schweigen Silent UM1170 Series
Bought 2 of these back in 2020 as part of a kitchen renovation. First one failed after 4.5 years - an issue with the printed circuit board which cost… Read more
several hundred $ to have someone replace. Second one failed a few months after the first but haven't fixed that yet. Looking at possibly replacing with a more reliable brand instead. Operationally they were quiet enough and did an ok job of extracting the steam/smoke when they worked.
Great suction and low noise – This is the best appliance that we put in when we replaced our kitchen. The rangehood has amazing suction and the unit is quiet enough that we… Read more
actually bother using it - unlike our previous traditional rangehood that we tended not to turn on as it was so loud.
The rangehood was reasonable simple to install. Despite having a roof mounted extraction fan the unit plugged into the same powerpoint in the roof as our previous unit. It did take a bit of work mounting the fan on the roof and re flashing the tiles but this would be simple enough for a handy man to do.
Schweigen service has been great too. I called them to ask where I could buy LED light bulbs for the unit - their reply 'we have them, would you like us to send some out free of charge?' - Wow, we were super impressed!
Highly recommended.
Great product at good price – This rangehood is described as non-silent, but we have not found it to be too noisy. We have it installed over a 900mm Induction cooktop and it has… Read more
no trouble extracting the steam and cooking odours. The halogen lights provide very good lighting. For less than $1000 I would highly recommend it.
Looks stylish and works well – The full title of this rangehood is Schweigen Rangehood Undermount non silent inbuilt motor and the model is NAUM-6. The title indicates that this… Read more
rangehood is non silent. Compared to our previous rangehood it is very quiet. There are lots to like about this product: (1) As it is undermount it is almost invisible, just the buttons to turn on the light and to adjust the level of power. (2) Easy to clean, just pop the filters in the dishwasher every three months. (3) Easy to remove and replace the filters. (On our last rangehood it was lot more difficult).
What we didn't like: The charcoal filters were not supplied with the rangehood, and we had to purchase them as an accessory. Not cheap at $90 for two sets and they were out of stock for a few months before we received them.
Haven't moved into newly renovated house - paid more for the "silent" aspect of this and am disappointed – As above - haven't moved into the house yet but have turned the unit on from settings 1 to 5 - there is no way that the noise could be considered… Read more
"silent". Did buy the 1600 motor, mounted it on/above a steel decking roof, ducting kept taught and no severe bends in ducting.
Not the best – This rangehood is exceptionally loud on all fan settings. The suction is quite poor, even on the highest setting, steam/smoke still filled the… Read more
kitchen. The lights are halogen and give off excessive heat. We changed them out with leds, which are better, but don’t fit/sit as well despite being the same fitting. The grate lets fat dip back down into the food so the whole insides need wiping or cleaning after each use. Biggest and only mistake in our kitchen renovation.
Moderately quiet inside, noisy for the neighbours – It works ok, but electronics packed up after guarantee expired. Don't know how much it will cost, they don't supply parts so someone has to come. This sort of appliance used to be trouble free. Now with electronics, no longer the case.
Wasted our $$. This is supposed to be the quietest range hood but it is one of the worst purchases we made in our new build as it sounds like a jet… Read more
plane. It usually needs to be on 2-5 for a decent extraction and at that level you can't speak to anyone whilst cooking. Even 1 is not whisper quiet as it says it should be. It is advertised as: Level 1-3 (Heavy Cooking): Silent like the airflow from a laptop/computer fan. Level 4-5 (Boost Mode): Quiet hiss of airflow similar to a multisplit aircon unit, without fan or motor noise. We were not told at point of sale at Harvey Norman, that the motor outside needed to be at least 5 meters away from the extraction point. I was also told on the phone that the kink in the tubing would make it louder, despite all of their diagrams having at least 2 kinks from extraction to outside motor as cab be seen in their attached diagram. The motor is noisy outside so wherever it is positioned it will be noisy for the neighbours or above bedrooms if put on the roof. A Schweigen technician looked at this and adjusted the tubing but it didn't make a difference. He said it was installed correctly by the builder and it would cost another $4,000 plus the cost of a colour bond box fixed to the outside of the house, to reduce the noise, and it would still be noisy. Could have bought a much cheaper unit for the same result but was looking forward to an upmarket, effective product. I would not recommend unless you can position on a roof well away from the kitchen and bedrooms and neighbours, but even then no guarantees as the motor is very noisy. I can't believe it has won so many awards.
Powerful extractor at a reasonable price but quality is lacking – I bought this unit online based on it's rated extraction capacity and the quality of a friend's Schweigen Silent rangehood. The delivery of the unit… Read more
was very quick from the time of order and everything worked well out of the box. Using it after installation, I am satisfied with the extraction capability and the noise level. However, I would not recommend similar units that are made for specific retailers (mine was for winning appliance, and there is a similar model for harvey norman). I would also suggest that if someone was looking, that they inspect the quality of the model as I feel that they may not be manufactured in the same factory. The unit I bought feels cheap. The control buttons is of a cheap design and feel. The led lamp do not sit flush against the rangehood (not noticeable until you are wiping the surface). There are exposed screws to hold down the faceplate, which in time will collect grease. The overall build seems to be bad as I noticed some uneven rivets holding the panels together (although you will not see them when installed, but reflects their manufacturing quality mentality)

end up with an expensive brick, that could cost you more than you expected to have an operational range hood as I now have to pay an electrician to repair the faulty unit -if that is possible!!
