as to date - i have not had any problems with it, all devices like these will lose internet connection to the WWW if the ISP or line fault away from your premises the internal network still functions if the ISP or outside line fails - so you still be able to use the device for an internal network between your devices - I hope this answered your question.

I have had the device for a while now, and never had to reset the router at all

Thank you for your reply. However it was not what I mean. Maybe I did not explain clearly. I just bought a brand new router and was trying to set up. However without success. (I have set up ASUS AC-68U before and using it for more than three years.) This new RT-AX-88U will be replaced my existing RT-AC-68U router. Also it will be used primary for my AirMesh network. My question is how do you know if the new router defects? (this is brand new from the box, first time set up) The internet LED light is RED when it power on. When I removed the Wan cable off the unit the LED light is still on RED colour. Is this normal?

No, if the internet LED light is RED, it is almost certain that it is a hardware problem. I have a AX88U for a few months now and every now and then the internet LED light will turn RED and I have to reboot the router to resolve it. There is nothing wrong with the internet itself, its the router's problem. I knew it for certain as the internet works fine with my spare router (router provided by the ISP). The rebooting of the AX88U normally resolves the RED internet LED light issue but not always. The most recent episode of such incident was not resolved by simple rebooting of the router. I have to unplug the router completely and left it overnight and when I plugged it back in the morning, it worked fine again. To date, it has happened to me 5 times in four months. The longest run without any problem was ~6 weeks. The shortest was 2 days. I was a bit frustrated with this rather unreliable router, so I called ASUS support and related my problems to them. They quickly determined that it is a hardware problem. They said I should have call them earlier. So, ASUS is now going to get a RMA number for me and I will return my router to the place I bought it and claim for a new one on warranty. Hope this helps.
