How far back can I claim
Not sure what you mean. You need to have cover at the date of the receipt.
Have been in the fund for many years--have receipts--just want to know how far back can I claim
have my details been sent to the office
I have been on the phone for 1 1/4 hours on hold waiting to check eligibility for a procedure I am about to have. Is this a standard of the usual service provided to ‘valued’ members? I am assuming that as it is now approaching 5.00 pm, I have wasted my time today.
I am saddened to hear about your experience, so similar to mine. Australian Unity weren't like this in the past. And I agree, having to listen to all the claims about their customer care while left on hold is horrible.
I am Australian Unity member my membernumber is 80922506 I am cover for Prosthodontic specialist dental?
I am cover for Prosthodontic specialist dental?

Why are there so many really negative reviews on here about AU when I work for this company and so many negative experiences have been successfully resolved and turned around? The members have even reached out to us to express their personal gratitude and told us they would join us later when they realised important documentation required by Law was erroneously withheld from another fund after a request from us was received numerous times? We understand customer service frustrations too, as some of us are with Telstra and Optus and Vodafone and electricity companies etc too. I have had a few complaints with Telstra resolved successfully by them and I was so happy with them and told other people verbally about Telstra's handling as well as online? Where are all the sweet, happy members with whom I spoke directly? Why don't they put anything here? Do they talk instead? My CSAT was over 8.5 average some months and I confirmed direct with our members they understood what I explained and the documentation required from any surgeon for a planned admission, OOPs etc, excess, clinical categories covered under their policy the vast majority of whom were so warm and lovely to speak with and responded so kindly? Where are all these people??? Do people realise how difficult it can be to explain health insurance when the caller is upset and having health issues and is sometimes really aggressively angry and upset? I'm not saying anyone who posted here was aggressive but we endure this daily while working back until 9pm sometimes for a call late in the day. Also, between insurers and competitors, there are things that occur which I will not disclose here but it us very upsetting to know our members feel abandoned which I can understand. My nana was with AU her whole life but they did not abandon her. She was always in capable hands in hospitals private or public. I am so confused.
I have the very top cover with extras with TUH Queensland my hospital gap is a one of payment a year of $300 when I should need to use it. I'm 77 year old single female with my cover for what someone of my age would have. Would you please tell me what I can expect to pay monthly to have the same cover with your company after the government discount is applied. I will no longer have the loading to pay with TUH after April 2025. Thanking you.
My husband had been with you for a very long time, never claimed and now have heard on the news that he could possibly be entitled to receive some money back. Is this true
Hi Sharon, thanks for the question. Could you please send the link to the news article to me at CustomerExperience@australianunity.com.au so I can look into this and get back to you? Thanks, Cat.
Please explain! If I have, say 6, identical procedures at the same time on my lower back but in different places (treating chronic nerve damage) why do you only cover the cost of ONE NOT SIX procedures, leaving me $500 + out of pocket? Does that mean - if I break both my legs in the identical position as a result of a (say) car accident, you only pay for the treatment/repair of ONE leg?
Hi Jax
Thanks for the question, I'd like some further details so I can look into this for you. Please reach out to us at customerservice@australianunity.com.au or 13 29 39 so we can follow up.
Thanks

I want to purchase health insurance for my 74 year old healthy father coming to visit us ( 600 visa), I wonder if Australian unity will cover major emergencies that are unpredictable like a car accident or fracture or a heart attack?
Thanks
Lola
Hi Lola, thanks for the question. We offer a range of covers for overseas visitors and we can include things such as heart conditions and bone fractures. To find out which level of cover would best suit your father, please call us on 13 29 39.
Thanks
Cat
Can someone tell me why my mother in laws overseas cover has gone up 15% this year and 25% last year? I have had top overseas cover since January 2014 with aus unity and it started off at $290. It is now $591! This is a massive strain on our budget. My salary hasn't doubled in that period that's for sure!
Hi Costa Thanks for getting in touch. We understand that any increase is difficult. Our premium increases are heavily regulated so everyone has equal access to health insurance. We’re happy to help with a Health Cover Check if you call 13 29 39 to assess if your mother in law is on the right cover.
Thanks
Cat
what are the waiting times for extra cover?
Hi Peter Thanks for the question. If you transfer over from another health fund, the waiting periods you've already served will carry forwards and you won't need to serve them again. If you're new to extras cover, the waiting periods vary between zero and twelve months. Is there a particular service or services you're interested in?
Thanks
Cat
Is an MRI covered by Australian Unity?
I don't know precisely. It may be that only some types of MRI are covered, also dependent on whether referred for the test by a GP or specifically listed specialist. The Federal govt.,as a cost saving measure under the guise of 'outdated tests',is also reducing Medicare rebates for selected imaging.Best to check with your medical insurer directly, also the imaging test provider.
Generally, MRI' s are not covered by private health insurance companies, e.g BUPA, Medibank Private, If you have a specialist referral there will be a medicare rebate for the MRI. There is not, however, for GP referred MRI scans. Not all MRI scanners are medicare accredited. GP referred scans tend to be done on non-accredited scanners, and the amount charged is generally lower - between $200 and $300 depending on the imaging provider. You should ascertain this first from them. There are medicare rebates, however, for some GP referred MRI scans for people aged Under 16. Some sports specific insurers (e.g JLT Sport) will pay rebates on GP referred MRI's if your injury is a sports injury and your club has insurance - check with your club if that's the case. Here's the list of Under 16 scans eligible:
Health Insurance (Diagnostic Imaging Services Table) 2012 Regulations – MRI Expansion
Subject to the passage of legislation on 1 November 2012, the measure introduces six new GP requested MRI items for children under the age of 16 years for the following indications:
scan of the head for certain indications
the spine for unexplained neck or back pain
the knee for internal joint derangement
the hip for certain indications
the elbow
the wrist.
Hope that helps. Cheers.
how does it cover for ingrown toe nail operation
Good luck. They will find an excuse not to pay
Do you cover medical glasses ? If you do, how much do you cover for that?
Depends on which calender year, their funny and undisclosed limits and they don't pay for Australian prescriptions ordered from, paid for in Australia but made overseas as they know people would actually use this versus $600 locally. Typical sneaky "playing the odds" that is the hallmark of this company and its dodgy management
