What setting do i juice kale

Kale's tough, so I'd go 5, but you won't get loads of juice out of it. I don't bother with Kale anymore because there's not enough yield of juice for what you put in.

Can anyone advise does the juice produced from this unit have froth on top? I hate the froth!! How does this juicer cope with leafy veggies? I love spinach and need a juicer that can handle this. Can you juice wheat grass in this juicer?

A little bit but its not too frothy at all but has a small amount on top. Presses are the juices that dont have froth or the champion juicer

Hi Susan - the instruction booklet can be viewed at this link for more information on this product. The use of ice is not recommended with using the Froojie disc http://www.breville.com.au/media/mediaappearance/15206/BJE520_IB_E13_FA_Lowres.pdf

what is the weight of the product?

The only part that has any weight in it is the motor that is in a stainless steel cylinder. This sits on my bench and doesn't move and all the parts that sit on this are mostly plastic and therefore very light. If I had to pick up the whole thing and take it somewhere else it is easy enough to carry. No problems. I hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure you can throw all the parts that need washing in the dishwasher. All plastic except the stainless steel but positive that can go in also.

I bought this machine in 2010. didn't use much for the couple of years. I started to use regularly from the beginning of this year almost 2 days in a week. perfect,,, i loved it... within minutes i get the juice, for me cleaning is not a big hassel. but, Now, its playing up. doesn't work at all. when i start the machine itself makes unusual noise. If I put carrot or apple, it makes big noise and stopped working. when i approached the Breville customer line, they asked me to bring the machine and said that some motor equipment should be changed and giving quotation of approximately $150/- , is it worth it? now, in Good guys and HN they are selling for 230/- almost half the price i have to pay to repair ... very frustated..

Do what I do, go to ebay, find someone local selling a good secondhand one. most of them have hardly been used. I bought my last one for 50.00 and used it nearly every day for over a year. breville are hopeless. the motor is supposed to be guaranteed for 2 years. but they dont. even have them as spare parts. good luck James

Personally I wouldn't pay that much for repairs and I'd probably start looking at another brand. It seems to me that many electrical items are not meant to last a long time these days. I will probably consider buying cheaper brands in the future with the knowledge they may not last a long time but that same seems to be the case with more expensive products so.......what's the use.

Hi Michelle, Pushing hard ice onto the blades on the juicer may ultimately blunt or damage the blades so we would not recommend doing this.

Hello - I have been looking at the Breville Juicer Fountain Plus BJE410, and have now stumbled across the Breville Ikon Froojie Juice Fountain. I want a product that is capable of juicing leafy greens, avocado, cucumber, apples, carrots, celery... Any thoughts on which of them products would be best suited?

Hi Howie, the BJE410 is perfect for everything you have listed except for avocado. Avocado will basically just 'smoosh' if that's a technical term into the blades rather than juice. The froojie will disk helps with soft fruits like avocado, banana etc where there is not enough juice to extract and a purée is a better option. So if you wanted to juice everything you listed we would suggest juicing with the standard juicer attachment and then switching attachments and doing your avocado with the froojie and stirring through. Hope this helps!

Hi Howie23, I'd buy the Froojie (BJE520). Better quality and has a dial adjustment for softer/harder fruits/veg as well as the froojie disc. We're happy with ours (I have one, as does my son) - have also noticed our local cafe uses one for their juicing.

I'm about to buy one of these juicers from a friend who has rartely used it, but she does not have the book. Is it possible to have a book of recipes sent to me please? I have recently been diagnosed with colon cancer and am about to start 6 months chemo, so this juicing life will be important for me. Thanks

Helen do consult your oncologist about the amount of fruit you consume, recent studies are showing that different sugars are metabolised by cancers at different rates and some are better than others.

Good luck.

Hi Helen, as mentioned above, info. booklet etc. can be download through the Breville website. A very good book that could help is "Cancer Jail Death Row" by Barry Thomson. It's all about his and other cancer patient experiences through juicing and the health benefits. Great book and cheap. Not sure if you can buy through book stores as was bought through local fruit and veg shop (word of mouth), not sure if I can put his contact details on this page. If you'd like details, please ask through this site and I can hopefully pass on privately. Best of Luck.

Hi I have just bought this Breville and my son thinks it is fantastic. He is 16 and a bit of a health nut and just loves everything about it. My question is, can I put ice cubes in the chute to grind up?

2 answers

BrevilleBreville

Hi Bev, if you put ice into the chute, it will partially crush and expel it into the pulp bin. Recommend that you use a blender separately to combine the juice and ice.

Haven't tried ice Bev but we did experiment with frozen mixed berries without success, most of the frozen berries went in to the pulp bin and were wasted.
