How do l get a sellers ph no lf it is not shown in add

Carsales.com.au
Carsales.com.au   DM

Hi Geoff, we would recommend using the enquiry form on the ad. This will send a message to the seller's carsales inbox where they can then respond to you or give you a call on the phone number you provide. Hope this helps :-)

Cindy H.

I am a seller and just lost a sale because of an odometer discrepancy placed on the advertisement. I am the only owner of the car, it is 7 years old & I drive about $10,000/year. 2017 is listed as 2030kms; 2019 at 19,000kms & 2021 at 2030kms. This is so not true. Who places these reports on the ad? Does carsales do this or a disgruntled buyer or is this automatic from a source? We need to get the source corrected.

Hi Carsales/Alex, I've always had an issues with the Android app in that, it doesn't order the way I tell it to. For example, if I filter a specific search and then want to order by year/price etc. it never seems to work and the order is still randomised. However, on iOS it works fine and the functionality and view is generally better on iOS also. Have the developers got this flagged as a known issue?

Carsales.com.au
Carsales.com.au   DM

Hi Tom, I'd be happy to share more details with our team so they can trouble shoot. Can you tell me what sort of Android, what the operation system/version is and if the carsales app is up to date? It looks like the app was updated on August 8th (version 5.15.0.0). I've got an Android too, I'd like to test it on my device. You mentioned year, price, is it all of them or specific sorting requests? Thanks :)

Tom
Tom

It's all sort options, none of them seem to work. However I checked my saved searches in the last 30mins have worked (typical :p). These range from 10 cars to 270 cars in the respective search. I always keep the app up to date (5.15.0.0), so it'd be interesting to know if 'squashed more reported bugs (thank you for all your feedback)' included this functionality fix.

Haha, great to hear it seems to have been fixed. If you find it acting up again, may be call our customer service team on 13 72 53. They can gather some info and pass it onto our app team. Thanks for letting us know either way! Have a great weekend. -Alex

Why is the cost of advertising on Carsales so difficult to find ? It is really $215 for a standard listing for a vehicle under $40k ? Is it made so difficult to find the price because it’s so expensive and you are banking on the customer being so deep into the process they just pay up ?

Just a non threatening request for information.

W Chen
W Chen

I have no idea they charged, a car listed $5000 then they charged $60, but another car listed $17500, they charged over $100, I think this is one of the reason they always suggest you higher market value for your car, but I am not gonna use Carsales any more, this website is out of old school thing, yonger doesn't like to use a media without app today, Gumtree and FB market place is free and more popular.

John c
John c

Thanks Chen Marketplace is free yes , and it should be because that’s all it’s worth ;-) It has the WORST search function known to human kind and terrible unintuitive menus……but I have listed my car there anyway …..because it’s FREE :-)

Gumtree now charge for car listing and is dead in the water !

Carsales has a virtual monopoly on the market and behaves like it !

Hi John and W Chen, Thanks for your thoughts about our pricing. Our ad pricing is flexible and based on market conditions, so the best way to get a price for your vehicle you're looking to sell is by entering the details on site. The pricing insights where the site recommends a range is based on data we've collected. We share this info back with new sellers so they can see what might be a suitable price range to sell. I'll share your comments with our team via Slack in the next day or so, if there is anything else you'd like to add, please add it and I'll send it all over together to the team. -Alex

Hi Alex , thank you for replying . Both surprising and refreshing. I understand Carsales suggest a price range for a particular vehicle . I feel that price is inflated and not particularly accurate, however if that is the price range suggested by the data , so be it .

I know the condition of the vehicle I’m sell and I know the price I will asking and that is my decision .

As a potential customer , I simply want to know how much it will cost me to list a vehicle on Carsales with an asking price of $38990 .

Simple question ….simple answer .

Alex , thank you again for replying , I look forward to a response .

Carsales.com.au
Carsales.com.au   DM

Hi John, You've made a fair point re the suggested pricing range when advertising. You could have two cars that are the same make, model, badge etc. but in quite different conditions (eg one could be as new and the other may have suffered some hail damage) and that would affect the price you'd advertise each for. The range at this stage considers a few things, but not 'as new' vs' hail damaged' type depth of info. It may in time though... what this space. If I was able to just give you a price for the ad I would, it not as simple as it use to be. What you could do if you really wanted the advertising price, without entering the infom would be give us a call and get of our staff to find out. I suspect they would do this by following the same flow you see on the site asking make, model, year, badge etc. But hey, they're a friendly bunch and wont mind, so you're welcome to call. They may be able to clarify exactly where the price range comes from too if you're curious. 13 72 53. Thanks for your time. -Alex

Can you stipulate in your search a cars interior colour?

Carsales.com.au
Carsales.com.au   DM

Hi Stevhan, We don't have a filter option to do this, but you should able to use the keyword search to find a specific colour, then narrow down the search by make and model. Eg. If I want to find a Land Rover with the interior known as 'Ebony', I can find these results by putting 'Ebony' in the keywords, then using the other filters to narrow down the make, model etc. If you have a particular interior in mind, navigate to a car with that interior, scroll down to Overview > details tab > interior colour. Note the interior colour and then use that term as your keyword. Good luck. -Alex

Facebook have an interior colour search. Carsales seem to track the field data but won’t let it be searched on. I’d love to be able to search on all fields instead of the limited range, even if results took longer to come back.

what does withdrawn mean?

fazil
fazil

withdrawn is if seller achieved the results (means no more ads required to publish), withdrawn the advertisement.

Carsales.com.au
Carsales.com.au   DM

Hi, Withdrawn means that the ad has been paused, but not marked as sold. A seller may do this for various reasons. The car may have a serious buyer and has been taken down to finalize the purchase. The seller may be unable to meet with buyers temporarily, so had taken the ad down. I've also seen instances where the seller has received a large number of enquirers and has taken the ad down as they believe one of them will buy the car. -Alex

I paid 179$ to put my add on carsales.I have only had intrest from car dealers who want to offer me $10000 less than what they are advertising the same car. I have reduced the price once and really feel that something is wrong.I have heard that people wont see my add until I pay more money to get better exposure. If this is true it would be equal to extortion.I tried to find my car logged in under a different user name and struggled to find it.I had to put in the exact name model and price to find it. I would like my money refunded. Currently only 3 saves, probably dealers and no genuine enquires.

How do you set up a search for a variety of car makes that are:

- Well below market price, - Below market price or - Around market price"?

The key word search doesn't seem to help.

Are lot of people have jacked up their prices that are way over Redbook valuations!

I'm sure lots of people would like to search for 'bargains'.

Not a good idea unless your basing your buy price from Carsales.com....... Remember their market price is based on advertisers price ( over inflated used car prices ) not the actual sell price... I can guarantee you that most used cars are sold way under the advertised price once the advertiser doesn't get an offer after a couple of months...... If Car dealers ( Bought and applied a profit to sell ) are selling a similar car at a cheaper price than a Private seller then what should go through your mind ????

How do I see a list of cars that have been sold, along with prices? That is the only true indicator of what cars are worth. According to Chatgpt-4 there is a filter on the left called Listing Type with one option being Sold. It also claims that under the Sort tab there is a Sold option. Neither of those seem to exist.

Carsales.com.au
Carsales.com.au   DM

Hi, Thanks for your question. Once cars are sold, they are removed from the site, so you wont be able to view sold vehicles. Instead we provide labels on car that are for sale such as 'around market price' to help buyer understand how the price compares to the market. For detailed info about this feature, see this article in our help centre: external link  Thanks Alex

pmolsen
pmolsen

Numerous cars listed have no price indicator. Does that mean they are overpriced? That is the sort of information that access to sold listings would allow a potential advertiser to assess. I understand (from chatgpt) that there used to be an option to search for sold vehicles. Quote:

To find sold listings on carsales.com.au, follow these steps: - Go to the carsales.com.au website. - Click on the "Used Cars" tab at the top of the page. - In the search bar, enter the make and model of the car you're interested in. - Scroll down to the "Refine Search" section and click on "Advanced Search." - In the "Advanced Search" section, scroll down to the "Status" filter and select "Sold" from the drop-down menu. - Click on the "Search" button to see a list of all the sold listings for the make and model you entered.

A lot of your price labels make no sense at all. The Mazda 2 Genki for example is the top of the range and the NEO is the bottom of the range, according to external link

You have this Mazda 2 Genki listed at present: external link  It has just 21,000km on the clock and is priced at $15,600 yet it has no price indicator, suggesting that you think it is overpriced.

Compare that with this Mazda 2 NEO: external link  It has 34,000km on the clock and is priced at $15,000 yet it gets the "Around market price" tick.

If the second car is around market value then the first one should be marked as below market value. Are they genuine ratings or do they get awarded to people who pay more for their ads?

Carsales.com.au
Carsales.com.au   DM

Hi, There could be various reasons why a price indicator is not included, eg. we don't have enough recent data about a specific model to include a pricing indicator. Regarding trying to find sold cars via chatgpt instructions, we remove ads from site when cars are sold, so I wouldn't expect you to find vehicles marked as sold.

The indicators are not paid for, they're added where the criteria for them has been met and we have sufficient data.

Thanks for your feedback. Alex

pmolsen
pmolsen

Are you honestly suggesting that after selling 2013 Mazda 2 Genki's on your website for 10 years you do not have enough data to decide whether one in pristine condition apart from one minor scratch, regularly serviced and with just 21,000 km on the clock is around market price at $15,600? Is your algorithm seriously not able to figure out that if a bottom-of-the range Neo with 34,000km on the clock is around market price at $15,000 then that Genki is also around market price. If your system really is that limited then it confirms why you should retain sold listings like eBay does, so users can decide for themselves what the market value of a car is.

Are you also saying that Carsales has never had the capability of displaying sold prices and that chatgpt simply made up those instructions from thin air?

You also state at external link  that you do not even take into account the condition of a car when putting those price labels on them. Seriously? So I can list a 2013 Neo with 34,000 on the clock but that is full of rust and falling to pieces for $15,000 and you will add a label saying it is Around market price???

pmolsen
pmolsen

Have a look at this car: external link  It is for a 2012 bottom of the range Mazda 2 NEO with 27,000km, priced at $16,200 . Note that it is 2012 not 2013 yet you give it an "Around market price" label. If that 2012 NEO is around market price then both the 2013 NEO and the 2013 Genki above should have "Well below market price" labels.

Also look at this one: external link  It is a 2014 Mazda 2 sport with just 30,000km on the clock priced at $16,995 yet it has no price label, which means you think it is overpriced. The sport is the next range up above the NEO. It is 2014. How can it possibly be overpriced if the above 2012 bottom of the range NEO is around market price. And don't try to tell me that you don't sell enough Mazda 2 Sport models for your algorithms to be able to decide. Your price labels are complete rubbish and worse than useless.

If you disagree then provide details of the last five 2012 Mazda 2 Neo's that sold recently for $16,200 or above through your website. I guarantee that you cannot provide a single recent sale.

That is why you should retain sold ads, so potential buyers are not misled by your false price labels and can decide for themselves.

In response to finding sold ads, that’s bs carsales said about deleting ads after it’s sold. If that’s the case then they wouldn’t be present in my saved searches. I suppose the only way of seeing them is to save the ad before they get sold.

Hi Ken, Thanks for your input. The ads are removed from the site once they are sold, for legal reasons, we never delete them from our systems. If the vehicle was saved to your account before the sellers removed it from sale, then yes, in that case you'd be able to see it in your saved car within your account. Others, would not be able to find this listing though. -Alex
