Hi I’m thinking of buying a manual 2014 it’s done 130,000 kms and apparently has a small oil leak issue. I owned a 2000 laser for yes and loved it. Been reading of many issues with focus but very drawn to this car will it be a issue any help appreciated thankyou
My suggestion is don't buy this car . This car has so many bad issues.. As you said has a small oil leak ; this is just the beginning of the list of big problems and issues. If you want to spend on this car $12000/annum every year to fix so many issues then you can buy it but still you will get lot of headache and issues with Ford Focus. Simple answer'is just buy any Japanese Car like Toyota; Suzuki; Honda ; Mitsubishi then you will have no issues ; no expenses in your car for long time. If you're buying second hand car then you have to check the car with your Mechanic to know the condition of the car. Good luck
Thankyou for your reply I hear u any recommendations of a second hand car ?
How many kilometres out of this engine
If you maintain it properly with regular oil changes, they could last close to 300k or more. The thing about European cars is that they are very sensitive to maintenance. Ford Focus is not that bad. For example VW and Peugeot are good engines but people ignore maintenance so they easily fall apart and then people blame the car company instead of blaming themselves. On the other hand Toyotas and Hondas last a long time even if you slightly ignore maintenance but they are not exciting to drive. Poor handling, poor performance (unless performance vehicles)...etc. If you are planning to buy second hand make sure the car has been well maintained.
Hi guys, Can someone please tell me if the focus LW MKII trend 2lt manual has an adjustable clutch? Currently the car won’t move till the clutch is all the way out , it doesn’t appear to be slipping. Any thoughts/ help would be appreciated.
I guys can anyone tell me what size o ring I need for my car ?? I need a part number for it to be able to know what size I need ?
What is the o ring for? Is your car an Automatic with the Powershit transmission ? If so probably best to just burn it.
Hahaha yep my thoughts exactly!!!
After washing my 2013 Ford Focus Manual with around 75,000kms, 2.0L Petrol. I started the car, let it idle for a bit, then reved it slowly to around 3000rpm. After releasing the accelator the engines reves died down and the engine was shuddering and shaking before it stalled. After the engine stalled there was a noticeable smell coming from the engine. Let it sit for a few minutes and drive it back into the garage. Get back in the car around an hour later as I needed to go out and leaving my estate which is quite steep, travelling up the hill in second gear like I usually do and the engine just starts revving up and down, it felt like I was jumping on and off the accelator, got to the point where the engine felt like it was about to konk out, mind you this was having my foot flat on the accelator while this was happening. So I decide to keep driving to the destination and haven’t had problem since, around a month ago it happened. I did have the fuel tank recall done around a week before this so maybe it could have been something to do with that? Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issues. All comments welcome.
mine has 40000km and it shudders and wont reverse.Ford will not cover you for parts and labor.google it heaps of people have issues
I don’t have an auto, not the same problem!
2014 focus S not starting Ford said it will Take 4 hours to diagnose Does that sound right?
Good day. My headlights dont want to go on . High beam and parks are fine. Fuze inside is also fine .Where is the relay for the headlights? Ford focus mk3
Theo, I think you'd best find a reliable auto electrician. It will probably save you a lot of time and frustration. Your local Ford dealer might be worth a quote, and remember you don't need to have it fixed there if it will be too expensive. Sorry I can't help more.
is there a factorty design fault in this car , my heatercore blew coolant into front drivers side .Carpet is saturated with coolant.USA have recalled focuses to fix asap this ways two days ago.Either the hoses are faulty or the whole heatercore itself.
Same thing happened to mine. There’s a plastic hose connector just behind the footwell wall there which after time gets brittle and breaks. It wasn’t covered in Australia under any recall which was extremely frustrating as I had to replace my heater core too! It’s a labour expensive job as they have to pull the dash out
Hello How Difficult is to replace the heater core on my FocusLW MkII. And if this procedure is explained in the workshop manual. Thanks
I am thinking of purchasing a 2015 focus LW Mk2 diesel turbo , what if any are the problems with this model, as I had an Ambient 2012 which had 4 clutches replaced, so nervous about purchasing above vehicle, any suggestions welcome
Run... Dont buy one is my advice to you... It is a gamble to buy a ford focus and one i woukd not ever take again or suggest anyone to make...
Mine is basically a garden gnome a decaration for the complex i reside in
I heard the Focus diesel had a wet clutch and did not have problems like the dry clutch model used for the petrol Fiestas and Focus's from the 2012-2014 era.
Wondering if anyone knows how to put transmission oil back into transmission in the 2013 turbo diesel model as it doesn't have a dipstick and has no information in manual. I was very surprised how hard ford have made it to service the focus yourself. Any help would be appreciated as my girlfriends car is still on jack stands and can't be driven until this question is answered?
What does MK 2 stand for. I have 2012 focus LW trend. Is my transmission faulty
I own a 2012 Ford Focus Sport TDi LW MK11, purchased in 2013. I've had my engine block replaced as oil got into my coolant reservoir. Ford Care assisted me to get it repaired, as my warranty had expired. But now I've noticed there may be something wrong with the transmission. I drove it one day and the transmission indicator came on. But when I drove it to a Ford Dealership to get it checked, the indicator had turned off. So, they haven't been able to do a proper check. The indicator light hasn't come on again. But I have noticed that at times, it gives a bit of a kick when getting into gear. Especially when driving uphill or from a stationary position. It's been looked at by a mechanic, but a total solution hasn't been found. But they did advise to bring it back if the indicator light comes back on, as it will make it easier to discover the problem. Has anyone had this problem with this vehicle? It's only done 78,500 kms.
im.experiencing the same problem. how does it get fixed?
I had to return it back to the Ford dealership where I live and had it repaired. Ford CRC did contribute to the repairs. But again; they replaced the mechatronic unit in the transmission. So, two major repairs have been made. Even though it drives well now, I still feel at times that the car doesn't act as it used to when it had its genuine parts from the factory. I have found that a car is never the same as factory bought, once parts begin to be replaced. But that's my opinion.
I own a Ford Focus Sport 2017 model that also leaked coolant into the engine. It is currently getting repaired and they are replacing the engine block. Apparently this is a recurring issue every 20 000km?
Keep getting message transmission failure needs service which causes car to rev over standard revs. Any ideas?
If this is occuring in neutral as well then it's more likely to be a fault within the electrics so would recommend to have the car towed to a ford australia service centre workshop or perhaps a reasonable auto electrician workshop may be able to help. It could be a problem somewhere else in the car in which case a reasonable mechanical repairs and servicing workshop may be able to help.
Tcm module
Does this model has a timing chian or timing belt?
This one has a belt
What’s a chian please?
A native or inhabitant of the Greek island of Chios.
hi just want to know if anyone here experiencing the car focus mk2 duratec 2.0 m/t having a hard time to accelerate, particularly when you hit the accelerator and you have to speed up in short time. i read somekind of intake manifold valve that needs to look into. there is no engine check sign and the car idle seems to be in normal sound.
thank you
I am looking to buy a sp25 or a focus LW MK2 and have driven 2 focus's in the past few days. They both seem to be a little but laggy on accelleration but i think its to aid in keeping fuel consumption down. Both got up and going around 3500 rpm. When accellerating at a very moderate rate it drives fine but if you put the boot into it, it takes a bit to get going.
Both were identical year models and 50-60k so im thinking its a characteristic. The sp25 on the other hand felt a bit more punchy down low but fuel consumption figures from memory arent quite as good.
I have a focus trend auto ,2012.. Need to know if I should use 98,95 or 91 please?
I have one. No problem yet with transmission but need to replace computer. It’s only done 59 thousand k’s. Pathetic.
does this model have a built in Navman?
Hi, the Focus Trend does not include the Navman.
excellent thanks
You can easily buy a global positioning device from any reputable electronics store. Alternatively you could try ebay australia
no it does not. Refering to 2012 Focus Trend.
No..
Hi all, I've seen the reviews for the Ford Focus Sport auto Lw Mkii and their transmission issues. Does this also count for the diesel model? I'm looking at a rather lovely 2014 one to buy, but don't want to buy myself a headache.
Thanks!
I do not own one, however I was in the same boat as you for a long while and was really tempted to get a 2014 tdci and researched them heaps. From what I have gathered, even though they are a wet clutch bathed in oil they are not immune to problems. Sure, they have far less problems than the dry clutch found in the petrols but they can still be a headache and would cost almost as much as the price of the car to replace it if something goes wrong. If you want my opinion, I would still avoid it. The ford focus tdci is the nicest looking and most appealing diesel in that price range, however you can still get a very nice diesel with a 6 speed conventional auto: The hyundai 2012+ i30. I have researched the i30 just as much and posted on the forums for a few months asking question after question, and plenty of people swear by them and have had trouble free motoring.
Thank you!! You've helped me decide to steer clear of the Ford Focus
The transmission on the LV/LW series TDCi is a completely different unit from that on the petrol engined models. Whilst the transmission on this vehicle will not be any more or less of a problem than any other automatic vehicle, one thing I'd suggest if you live in an urban area and do a lot of inner city driving is to look at a petrol engined option (obviously not a Focus with the power shift transmission) as the calibration required to meet new EU emissions standards actually, or more to the point ironically, dramatically reduces fuel economy under these driving conditions and frequent DPF regeneration cycles will eat into that economy yet again.
On the other hand, if you live in a regional centre and/or do a lot of highway driving then a diesel is a great option to consider.
To put a short answer to the question of "will the transmission be a problem?" - No, it will not.
If you want a vehicle that will allow you to travel vast distances between transmission services, get a Nissan or Toyota with a CVT.
Wrong we have had all the problem with our 2014 Turbo Diesel 1 Low power shuddering 2 Hanging on gears 3 Car shuts down displaying a fault, have to power off car upto 5 times to be able to drive it again
4 Just ran out of warranty and Ford Australia wants $8000-$12000 to fix it because its not a ford problem
Hi everyone, I have been the proud owner of a 2103 2.0ltr TDCi Diesel S(port) hatch for the last four years, the car is equipped with the PowerShift auto transmission and I am pleased to report that apart from some (very) minor trim issues, the car has been 150% reliable, with absolutely no issues with drivetrain/transmission, furthermore the fuel economy has been sensational (took the car to from Sydney to Brisbane) for less than the cost of a taxi ride to Sydney Airport (<$180 for the entire trip, including touring around the Gold Coast and surrounding areas). I agree that the cost of servicing the car is exorbitant through Ford dealers however after the 1-year free service option I my car ran out I switched to K-mart Tyre and Auto. Having said that, however the after-sales service from City Ford (Sydney) was exemplary and I would not hesitate to recommend them. In my opinion, one of the most underrated cars in the country !

Chris
Hi, I am just about to purchase a Ford Focus sport 2013 LW MK2 auto petrol. The clutch has been replaced in April. It's done 31,000km and it's in perfect condition. It has a 7 year warranty on the clutch. Just want some in put on if this is a good car to buy or should I buy a manual ?? Any help would be great thanks .
Hi LW MK2 are the ones with clutch problems whether auto or manual I have a LV mk 2 with the bare bones basic 4sp gearbox the LW's are subject to lawsuit and ongoing consumer issues due to their power shift 6sp gearbox. This was corrected in the LZ (2015-onwards)which has a standard 6Speed gearbox no power shift. tread carefully!
Ok thanks.. The clutch did get replaced in April this year and a warranty for 7 years added.. The lady had no problems with the car at all before hand. But it got recalled so she got it fixed . I'm torn in what to do now .
Hi Kaz 21, Saw your review regarding ford focus LW Mk2, in auto / petrol. Mate don't bother look elsewhere. The TCM ( Transmission Control Module) are unreliable and that so called shudder can't be fixed. Just recently got rid of mine. Got a letter from ford saying that they're aware of the problem and gave me an extra year warranty. Big Woop, warranty runs out and you'll be up for big $$$ to fix it. Powershift is Powershit. Look elsewhere as I know you will not want to be disappointed later.
@Bella, the manuals don't have the clutch problem. One issue they do have though is getting the power down without hopping the front wheels on "spirited" take-offs, apparently a stiffer engine mount helps reduce this as the factory one is soft as jelly. It can also be reduced by taking off sedately, but what's the point of having a sporty car if you have to take off like a Nanna?
Hi im looking at purchasing the 2013 ford focus sport auto . 56000ks
What is everyones thorts? And what should i look for?
Thanks
You do not say what engine is in the "sports"?
My thoughts are; Diesel- Yes, Petrol - No! Because of the problems with the dry clutch - DCG, fitted to the Petrol models.
Ensure you have a mechanic check this out, otherwise the Focus is a good car
I'm not sure but the petrol does have it's problems
Don't even think about it! If it's got Powershift and Dual Clutch it's a lemon.
I agree with willy 40. I have a diesel one (2012). It has a wet dual clutch gear box and I never had issue with the gear box. It seems that all the problems are with the dry dual clutch gear box in the petrol ones. So I am very happy about the diesel model (very economical too).
Great car, shame about the DSG choice of transmissions.
If one of these goes on you after warranty, $8,000 to replace it is not uncommon.
No doubt the wrecking yards will be bursting at the seams soon with new Focus' with not a mark on them.
Don't buy any Ford Focus models from 2011-2016 I am on my 3 rd transmission clutch replacement and now my car has an oil leak between engine and gearbox . Of course ford are offering new clutches as many times as you need them. Warranty on clutch. Issue is 160,000km
As for the oil leak from engine is a grey area. I've been told at my local dealer I will have to pay. What a joke. I am in talks with Fords head office and another case going
Just don't buy as you will be buying a continual migraine.
I bought thinking my $25,000 investment would last 15-25 years.
By the way my car only has done 28,000km
Lemon lemon lemon
Trying get rid of my focus. 2012. 59,000 k’s and needs new computer. Plus I found out after I got it that there a class action agains Ford for its faulty transmission. It’s a lemon. I will never ever buy ford again. Next car a Toyota
If the car is a ford focus just run for the hills... Dont even stop to think about it
