How do you reset ignition timing

Gee Ray probably need to be more specific i.e is the whine present when engine is cold or while accelerating or while cruising at constant speed or when accelerating or underload? Could be caused by many different components. Could be the belt that drives the alternator and power steering pump and water pump and aircon compressor worn and slipping when cold. Could be a worn water pump bearing or bearing in aircon compressor on its way out. Could be a worn power steering pump. These components are mounted on drivers side of engine and you could listen with car idling and bonnet raised to pinpoint component. Could be caused by noisy bearings in the idlers and tensioners that guide the cam belt if this service is overdue.

Noise, ( whine only comes in over 20 kms, seems to last longer now the temperature has dropped, once engine is warmed up it disappears,cannot check noise while idling, It's not there,

I would not buy that it's eleven years old maybe have to much bad history. On the other hand if you were in the market to buy a new Mondeo i would buy it.

2008 Mondeo's are absolutely lovely cars..We purchased a 2008 for $10,000 at Huston Ford in Kingaroy and it only had 53,000km on it..it came in the day before we went looking for a car..it was from an elderly couple and they were very gentle with it. So we were soo lucky to get this for $10,000 with 53,000 km and only 1 owner..and that was in 2017.Yes that's correct.. Your probably better off finding something else though as that is alot of mileage on the one your looking at. Something with less mileage.There is always a bargain out there u just need to look..

Timing belt

You could go to a auto electrician if you don't want the Ford Australia workshop service centre to do the work. Alternatively you could just not use the air conditioning. Plenty of people just don't bother turning on the air conditioning. You will likely have trouble finding what you need at the car wreckers but, there's no harm in trying, I suppose.

The MC model diesel engine has a timing chain. I don't know if the petrol engine is the same. I had a timing belt break on a Toyota Corona in the 1990's. Mercifully the engines' valves weren't damaged. First time I'd ever heard of a rubber timing belt as I had Falcon's up to then.

Capitalism at it best. Go super cheap on the parts that matter most and require you to get towed to the nearest workshop if they break.

Fairly certain these have a timing belt, according to my service book and Gates Australia online parts catalogue.

Never drove a Mondeo Turbo diesel.I would say Turbo has gone or some hose connection.I'm not a mechanic and only drove a great 2,3lt petrol Mondeo.

It may be time to have the car towed to a ford australia workshop service centre or perhaps a diesel engine specialist workshop may be able to help.

Same happened thing with my 08 2.3 MA yesterday. Fuel pump replaced at 110000 kms.

You have the option of taking your car to a Ford Australia workshop or a mechanical genius - some more options are Kmart tyres and auto though usually ultratune are experts at diagnosis and repairs of faults of a car

It's a fuse and it sounds like a lot of models of fords have this fault. It seems to be connected with an air con issue in many case such as mine and have paid $130 at auto electrician to be told it has no problem lol and by the sounds of it ford will also tell consumers the same. Maybe all concerned should lodge a class action law suit against ford and stand up to these companies who refuse to be held accountable for faulty products! The XR5 has the Volvo 2.5 5cyl turbo engine. A timing belt is fitted with a changeover scheduled at 10yrs or 180000km, whatever comes first. I have questioned the length of time for the belt changeover however all documentation shows the same thing. Hope this helps

Yeah this is another reason why I bought it. It does have a belt but it requires replacement at 200 000kms or 10 years.

I have Achilles on mine and they are very good

It depends on how much someone is willing to spend / my advice is to spend 200 dollars plus on each tyre on some Yokohama, dunlop, Bridgestone or Goodyear tyres though if you can afford 600 bucks or so on tyres I would suggest fitting, alignment and balancing of 5 michelen or pirelli tyres
